Border Guardian Hal Akircius

Chapter 1: The Ghost of Cilentium, Part 2

"... you're lying, aren't you?

'I am not lying, and I am not saying that there is life, especially not yet, for we are not of this world.

The day is still high.

But there is certainly a man in front of Hull with an old armored helmet, whose figure is visible not only in Hull but also in Erlacia's eyes.

Ellesia sweats cold on her forehead and pulls Hull's sleeve hard as she was gripping.

"Hal... that's not a person, it's fine in the sun, and it's a rare example of keeping a decent will, but it's the spirit body of the dead.

"Is it real...

Cold sweat also flows through Hal's forehead.

However, the man continues to talk without being too obsessed with the fact that the two things in front of him have changed.

"Well, there is no reason not to believe it, he who was in charge of this land in an age when the Lord was not yet born... but he lost the battle.

"I know the story, the enemy also praised Altrius, a hero who fought brilliantly, and politely cleansed the remains and sent them back to the Empire, where the hero was worshipped in the temple of the imperial capital.

When Hal barely gave it back, Altrius sarcastically distorted his mouth.

"Well, it was the Imperial Aho aristocrats who said such things, wasn't it? There's no way you can get such a favour from me, a civilian and a conquered place, we've already decayed, but the cemetery and the coffin are behind this, you see?

"Yes, no, I don't mind.

'Really?... reasonably good, haven't been a guest in forty years, let's entertain you, you should come here.

Altrius returning the heel.

Hal and Ellesia looked at each other for a moment, but when Hal nodded a little, Ellesia snorted, too, and followed Altrius.

Led by a building believed to be the Legion Command Office, Hal and Erreisia sit in stone chairs as recommended by Altrius.

So, the idea of sending a border guard is that the Empire has decided to rebuild this state?

"No, that's not why I say..."

Altrius slowly cut out as he turned to his desk in discipline and sat down.

But Hal clouds his mouth at Altrius's inquiry.

Altrius' face turns from a slight smile to something surprising.

"... even though I'm a border guard, how can I help you say I've sent a successor?

"And is that what happens?

Hal says as he retrieves the orders he is carrying with him without letting go of his skin and the additional instructions.

Except in the Empire, where the position is extinguished or is dismissed due to non-compliance, the predecessor is to be dismissed naturally when the successor arrives at the duty station with a written order and ends the takeover.

The takeover period is in principle one week, although the period may be longer in view of the special nature of the place of assignment or position.

"I wanted to take over my duties too, but even though my responsibilities are gone, His Majesty the Emperor will not dismiss me.

Certainly praises the hero Altrius, and the annihilated Commander of the Northern Defense Forces and the 21st Legion Commander continue to be entrusted with Altrius as he is.

At the annual inaugural ceremony of a high official, General Liquinius, who was victorious in his battle against the hero Altrius and the Eastern Light Empire but died in battle, was the first to be read out his name, and Hal remembered that.

"That's discipline.

'If you're an Imperial soldier, you deserve to do your job... especially if I screwed up halfway through it, but I can't say that my mouth is torn... but if the successor has done this, I'm finally relieved of my job, too!

Altrius approached Hull with a much less human behavior when he stood up without sound.

Without worrying about Hal and Erlacia, who would pull themselves back a little, Altrius pointed at Hal's hand with a glistening eye.

'Come on, give me the handover! You have an order, so you naturally do, don't you? We kept the city clean so we could take over without a shortage!

"I don't have a handover, because I'm not taking over my assignment from anybody.

Hal replies with a slight pull to the sword screen, arguably an anomaly of Altrius.

"What?"

"I've been transferred here, and I have no assignment or position to be taken over.

To Altrius, who enquires sharply, Hal answers in a damned mood.

"Well, if it's a left-hand transition... what are you talking about... abandoning such a grave and extreme land and sending even a left-hand transition official... you empire aho noblemen!

Altrius to be the shape of a ghost.

Oh, my God.

A fire rises from behind Altrius, and from the floor around him, the ghosts of the Imperial soldiers begin to rise in a blur.

Soldiers pulling out their swords and wearing torn armor helmets fill their surroundings.

Hull quickly pulled out the knife, but wondered if it would work for the ghost opponent and hesitated to cut it.

"Spirit wandering in the earth, purify yourself of a restful sleep in heaven!

Shaaaaaaaa

El Laicia puts up a wand at once and casts a spell of purification.

Occasionally the sun falls from nowhere, lighting the surroundings brightly and warmly.

"... the Temple of the Sun Cleric of Cliffonam, or quite a powerful technique, but it works for me, for me to be named annually by the Emperor of the Empire for the Inaugural Ceremony, to be renewed with the curse, and to continue to be bound to this land.

Altrius leaves himself to the sunlight that descends with fire but sadness, but the figure continues to linger and eventually the sunlight breaks.

Neither do all the soldiers who show up look down, just looking down in regret and attacking.

"I didn't know there was such a curse in the officiating ceremony.

"For the first time in my life, I also regret that Lord Liquinius of the Eastern Photographic Border has served the Empire, but has therefore continued to be the shield of the Empire..."

Altrius replies to Hull's self-derision at his impatience.

There is no atmosphere that is impatient until now.

"... can't we do something about it?

"Nothing more to me... the earlier cleansing technique put maximum effort into it..."

Hal unintentionally asked Ellesia, but Ellesia answered with a slight tiredness.

"Sorry."

'Not that the Lord is to apologize, well, I was also a left-hand man when I first came here, to say your companion... Hmm, let's ask for one last thing, a gift from an impudent predecessor.

"No, I won't.

"What can I shy away from? Come here if you don't mind, there's an arena.

"No, I won't.

"... if you say so, it's something you want to try, well, hang out, I'll give you a break.

"... I told you I wouldn't do it.

"... hey, ladies and gentlemen, take Lord Border Guardian to the arena.

Zaza

Soldiers silently surround Hal and Erlacia.

"Ha, hal..."

El Laicia frightened by the soldiers' no-good movements.

Sometimes my technique is ineffective, and I lean on Hal carefully.

Seeing that he was unlikely to escape, Hal gave up his sigh.
