Border Guardian Hal Akircius

Chapter 5: Request for Urban Extension Imperial Army Dispatch (Part 3)

At noon fifteen days after Commander Dekimus Adamantius left the station, a farm on the western outskirts of Cilentium.

Altrius appeared before Hull, who was out of the field with the Orans to help him make a mistake.

"Haruyoshi, the Imperial soldiers are approaching from the west, the number is roughly 200, right?

"The Imperial post is south... is it a different unit from Commander Adamantius?

'Probably.'

Altrius answers Hal's words with a strange face.

Hal stops his hand, puts the broken seedlings in the basket and goes to the nearby waterway, and washes the seedlings with water.

This will give colour to the juice utensils today.

Altrius added a commentary as Hal handed the basket to the Oran farmer who was nearby and started walking into the office wiping his hands with a handcloth on his hips.

"The nearest border guard from here is only in the Oran neighborhood on the far side, because there is a natural wall there called the Northern Great Mountains, so be careful, in any case, you are sure to see that it came out for some purpose.

"... the question is what is the purpose..."

"Um, let's be prepared, it's troublesome if they're bad barebacks, whatever the cause, even if the citizens hurt us and our reputation is lost.

Altrius cares about the qualities of the Imperial Army.

If we lose the reputation of the Cilentium administration due to the brutality of the Imperial Army, not only will the growing number of migrants and merchandise sales decrease, but there may be riots in the city after the worst grievances have been directed at the administration and the Imperial Army has achieved its purpose and left the city.

"Okay, let's evacuate everyone to the precinct immediately, because if it's not a reason, it's dangerous.

'Hmm, good judgment, there are still walls there too... heh heh heh, but Haruyoshi, you have often said to protect the barbarians by speaking of citizens from the Imperial Soldiers, the original Lord's task would be to increase the prestige of the Empire and conquer the barbarians?

As Altrius teases as he rushes to Hull's feet, Hull finally answers with an angle up his mouth.

"What do you say, prestige doesn't” increase, "it” increases, "and that's the only viable means of national action, I'll bet the imperial prestige to protect my citizens.

'Wahaha, the guy who got left and rotted has come to say it a lot! That's my prospective successor!

To Hull's spare answer, Altrius laughed fundamentally.

By the time Hal had finished evacuating everyone outdoors to the city's administrative district, the 100 captain of the Imperial Army Border Guard, Boreus Cadesius, was bewildered in front of the castle gate west of Cilentium.

"I haven't heard of an imperial city like this, what the hell is this city?

"I don't know... but the map shows the state capital of Cliffona Superior, the Harmonium.

In a disciplined manner, Boreus' sober deputy answers questions at all times.

"You think it's harmonium?... Oh, that, of the story of the hero Altrius..."

"Yes, but it's supposed to be an abandoned city, I haven't heard it was developed this way.

Seeing a slice of sweat falling from the forehead of a deputy who looks calm as usual, he seems quite surprised.

Overwhelmed by the sight of a city that did not seem like an abandoned city, the Imperial Army Border Guard, the soldiers of Fort Theoneus, were breathtaking.

I know that empire technology is used, but there are ideas that are different from empires everywhere.

The water bridge, strewn throughout the city, sends rich, clean water across every corner, ending up in a large waterfall on the north side of the walls trail, depressing into the pond.

And the water stored once in the pond was moisturizing the surrounding land with small multiple waterways.

The western side, where the troops have proceeded, has begun to see parts of the forest cut open and farmland developed, with root vegetables and pasturesque crops regularly planted side by side.

One of the soldiers shrugged water flowing through a nearby ditch to try and included it in his mouth, but the soldier accidentally drank it down as it was in fresh water rolling down his throat.

If you look closely, you can see signs of life everywhere, although no one seems to be here right now.

After mowing the carriage, people's footprints, grass, brand new stumps, and traces of fireworks.

"The unexpected prey was rolling, don't come to change if you leave it alone, such as the soggy Barbarian Theoneus.

Boleus unexpectedly nods his tongue before a defenseless city, using the loot as a basis for his reckoning after looting.

It's an abandoned city, and even if I saw it, it would be about 1,000 people with residents.

Even if there are warriors, maybe a hundred at most, maybe less, but if they hit from the front with the attack of the Empire's heavily armed infantry, there's nothing to be afraid of, they can kick it without any other love.

The walls are low and not helpful in defense, and there are no doors at the castle gate.

There seems to be a tower left, but there is no such thing as a person, and there seems to be nothing to worry about.

At any rate, it is the barbarians who live in it, and this is a border land that does not reach the power of the imperial code.

Wear all that you can, and after you've plundered the women and children you can use, burn them down and make them more sophisticated.

Just like the village of Theoneus, who stupidly refused to contribute and fled, without a trace.

That way there will be citizens of the Empire, but it doesn't matter if there is an administrator.

Everything is hidden by the darkness of the border.

"... but this is the only city, it seems likely that there will be an administrator..."

"Oh, there's no such person here, because this is an abandoned city, at least I don't know.

A deputy officer complains bitterly, but Boreus, instead of listening, manipulated the manoeuvres to justify the irrevocable evil of plundering from an imperial city.

But the word results in reversing Boreus' nerves.

"... Speaking of which, you defied my command before?

"Because it's the deputy's job to advise you.

The deputy, who expressed his opposition in grandeur when he burned down the village of Theoneus, said so in Boleus' sticky gaze, without making him feel anything in particular this time.

"Now let's hear some of it... we don't do any loot, but those who don't want to participate in the attack, raise their hands! Let's make him stand by here!

About thirty soldiers raised their hands, and both Boreus and his deputy were surprised by this.

Boreus had an unexpected amount, and his deputy had such a presence.

"... Shit, okay, you guys keep the heavy here, and the food amulet suits you cowardly, unimproved people!

Boreus left a throwaway dialogue with his deputies, who began to prepare to stay quickly, and led the remaining 170 soldiers to begin their march into the city.

'... Haruyoshi, unfortunately you don't seem to have room for negotiation, you're going to move on in combat.

Arrange the shields, and Altrius, who sees an Imperial Army unit sticking out a spear, advances, warns Hull.

"Oh, no. Are you saying there's an imperial border guard here?

Helionel, who has had a lot of painful experience from Imperial Soldiers for what can be described as Altrius' decisive words, speaks out early and in panic, which can also be taken as a scream.

Here, on the walls of the Legion Base east of the administrative district, fifty Oran warriors and ten Cliffonam warriors, then Hal, Altrius, Belius and Hellionel are fully armed and hidden.

Erlacia evacuated the former Temple of the Sun in the administrative district without distinguishing between the peoples of Oran and Cliffonam, and is now partitioning the scene.

Raysink has an acquaintance with Adamantius, so he traveled twenty days ago with a warrior from the escort with Hull's letter.

Hal and Altrius settle down and exchange words as everyone is stifling their faces at the tension.

"I have trouble with this... do you have any idea where the troops are?

'No, the fort's location hasn't changed, but it's been forty years on boulders, and I haven't even flown a flag, and I can't tell from what I've seen.

Altrius and Hull gaze at the troops of the Imperial soldiers who began carefully to creep through the eastern castle gate from behind the low walls of the administrative district.

When Hellionel peeked after the two of them, he realized that a familiar face was in command of the soldier and raised his voice softly.

Hellionel explains to Hal and Altrius, looking back with a strange face, at first sight.

"... that's Captain Boreus of the Imperial Army, stationed in a fort in East Oran... he's probably been after us..."

Hal giving into Hellionel's words.

"... Is the Imperial Army free?

'I don't know, you're not asking me, if you're asking, ask that hundred captain.

When Hal heard Hellionel's explanation and questioned Altrius, he threw up like that not to mention that Altrius was out of his mind.

"No, I can't right now, it's just the predecessor, right? I'm with the Imperial Army.

"... I didn't have to know forty years ago, and I don't know with what thoughts the Imperial Army would move today, etc. First, it's suicide in my active life to come and go around the border in such a small number of places. In addition, every hundred captains may be given command outside their jurisdiction.

Altrius answers Hal's overlapping questions.

In contrast, Hellionel uttered a terrible word.

"When I came to the village, I told you to give me a woman... but that's what I said... no way.

"With a sketchy heart? To this point?

"Stupid! Rotten and flourishing Imperial Army!?

Hellionel calmly said to Hal, who raised a barbaric voice, although Altrius raised his anger.

"No, that's a rotten Imperial Army.

"... ugh.

For some reason it took an overstated form, and Altrius shuts up remorsefully.

Awkward silence occupies the perimeter.

"Well, let's leave that aside, shall we say that this city is under the rule of the Border Guard?

'... for once, it would be better to make a declaration for the aftermath, but the effect would be better to expect.

Hal, whose words of surprise had caused Altrius to fail as a result, answered somewhat recovering when he told him to rush to take it for granted.

"Really, then..."
