Border Guardian Hal Akircius

Chapter 10: The Summer of the Year and the Southern Continent of Cilentium

Early Summer, Empire Territory of the Southern Continent · South Syria, Utica City

The city of Utica is a town that the westerners were pleased with and flourished in their dealings with the southern continent and the western countries, but which voluntarily entered under the control of the Empire as the Empire took control of the coast of the Setria Inland Sea.

Although it is a town with common characteristics of the Setria countries, it is slightly different in interest from the cities of the Empire.

And it's still a good time to say it's early summer, but the shining sun is already through cheer.

There are quite a few citizens in the market, but they shop somewhere frightened and restless.

I get the impression that it looks cheerful from the clothing with many gaps that is suitable for the hot climate of the citizens, the big noticeable nose, and the shallow black skin, but everyone is uniformly dropping their gaze to the ground, and when they are ready to use it, they are shivering away.

I could see that the shopkeepers and clerks had not been able to concentrate much on business, rather than on open stores and signs.

The cause becomes immediately apparent.

"Hey, get out of the way!

When the soldier touching the spear threatens the people who go on the road, the citizens who were shopping run off into the streets and shops at the same time.

The rear is followed by the imperial soldiers who line up ahead with military flags and march our faces through the narrow markets and the heart of the streets planted with coconut trees.

Once a vibrant city of Utica, visited also by the peoples of the South, it was now only the imperial generals and soldiers who were walking wide across the town.

It was at the beginning of the Southern Empire, the province of South Syria, that an empire that had no foothold in the Southern continent built a small fortress in Western Continental Heritage about sixty years ago.

Less than twenty years went by when it did not serve more than its true foothold since, but the young civilian general Altrius, who has been there, changed this situation.

Until then, the generals had given way to hardware and food against the forces of the Southern nations, who were constantly pushing on.

As can be seen from the fact that a budget had been deliberately budgeted in the name of bargaining fees, the Imperial Army had only more than a thousand as guards of the fort and had no skill against more than ten thousand southern nations.

But when Altrius stepped up his army when he went on duty and more soldiers in excess of 3,000, he turned the most empire-friendly nomadic Saussian tribe of the Southern nations back to the imperial side.

And as usual, the southern nations pushed to the fort.

Altrius was in touch with the Sausyrians, but when he saw the match, he struck out of the fort and broke it by pinching the Sausyrians and his enemies who appeared in reinforcements.

As usual, after negotiations, he was alarmed that he would just take gold and pull it up, all three tribal chiefs would feed on the white holy sword held by Altrius, the tribal armies would be devastated, and Altrius, driven by the surplus, would lead his own army and the tribal armies of South Syria into the home of the three tribes.

Last seen in the support of the three tribes, a moratorium was received from the upper echelons of the empire where they crushed the great tribes of the South, the Gora.

The Empire hated Altrius' leap from civilian origin and not belonging to the faction.

There are no forces around to resist Altrius, who has now defeated the largest tribe, and if we had left everything to him as it were, the entire Setria Inland Sea coastal region of the Southern continent would have fallen into the hands of the Empire.

But politics within the empire does not allow it, and Altrius is recalled.

Only a few territories controlled by Altrius have been incorporated into the Imperial Territory and become the Imperial Province of South Syria, to this day.

Its state of South Syria was home to the city council hall of urban councillors in the city of Utica, which was crowded with the leaders of the imperial Southern contingent.

Commander-in-Chief Scipius.

Deputy Commander-in-Chief Hiltius

Border Guard Southern District Commander Murrow

2nd Legion Commander Maximus

Cartho, Commander of the 16th Legion

Labelius, Commander of the Seventeenth Legion

Siaglius, Commander of the Eighteenth Legion.

19th Legion Corps Leader Urso

Catulus, Commander of the new 101st Regiment

Titius, Commander of the new 102nd Legion

New 103rd Legion Legion Commander Sura

There is.

The second regiment is the most elite with the main task of defending the imperial capital, while the sixteenth and seventeenth regiments were originally placed in the South.

The eighteenth regiment was Colonia Lemesia in the northeast and the nineteenth regiment was pulled out by this operation with Portulus Leames to the south of it in their original garrisons, respectively.

Originally an army preparing for Siluha on the northern and eastern borders.

And the three new regiments are made up of soldiers converted from the Northeast Precinct Border Guard, and the Legion Command has moved to the front line as soon as possible.

With Adamantius' quick arrangements, the soldiers have already finished braiding and are now just waiting to be transported by boat from the mainland of the Empire.

"Hmm, that's a bad gathering!

From the beginning Scipius exploded his dissatisfaction.

"I can't help it, the Sixth and Seventh Regiments, and the Tenth Regiment have the main task of defending the Imperial Northwest Side. It will take at least six months to arrive. The Fourth Corps has been contacted in Lemesia about delays in engaging with bandits.

"Tataru!! I'm not in the mood!

Not convinced by Hiltius' rational explanation either, Skipius, who kicked on the floor made of marble with sandals filled with ammen and iron, did so without even trying to hide his frustration.

The deadline for the opening of the war scheduled by Scipius had passed, but it was a ground-breaking story such as the opening of the war in six months from the policy decision in the first place, and for Hiltius this delay was woven.

Rather, it is about surprised that soldiers and regiments have been sent so early from the northern border.

Even at the time of his retirement, Hiltius was emotionally innumerable, now aware of the extraordinary strength of Adamantius, the oldest general of the Imperial Army.

If we wanted so much prosperity, Adamantius would have sat in the chair where Scipius is now sitting.

I wouldn't be in my current position if I did, but I might have been happier for the Empire and the Imperial Army.

"Slow, slow, slow! What are you doing!!?

When Hiltius was sprinkled with emotion, Scipius erupted his usual kanshiku.

Leaving aside the decadent Legion Chiefs, Scipius speaks ill of the Legion lagging behind as he pleases, cursing the indulgences of the officials of the rear support role and cursing the non-cooperative nobles, although they have not acted in a clear inhibition.

The actual army on the ground today is 10,000 auxiliaries to five legions of 25,000.

Plus, 10,000 of the Border Guard can move freely.

The soldiers have not yet arrived for the three new regiments pulled out of Adamantius, but this arrives and adds 15,000, finally bringing 60,000 Imperial troops together.

Four corps of 20,000 were scheduled to be joined by 8,000 auxiliaries, and as many as 88,000 imperial troops were to march towards the depths of the Southern continent.

Scipius ordered the end of the war to be opened this spring, but since that is impossible due to various circumstances, the war was to be waged at the end of next spring, Hiltius.

So far, the collection of weapons and consumables on food, horses and horse food has not been going well.

However, it is not enough to start a war yet, and it is difficult to say that the current number of troops is sufficient because it is an incursion while border security is being carried out.

Though 100,000 soldiers were initially scheduled, the consul's inability to establish guidelines for replenishment and soldier replenishment has led to a considerable reduction in the number of troops due to budget constraints.

This is because the nobles reluctantly provided money and supplies, and the Empire's budget alone certainly cannot cover 100,000 soldiers.

Hiltius forced to modify the track.

In his view, the manoeuvres viable with the current force were limited by the control of the Setria coastal region, but Scipius has still not given up his original domination of the northern region of the Southern continent.

Sure, that's not impossible depending on creativity and how you do it, but unfortunately Scipius is not an officer who can be creative or how you do it.

Hiltius, a deputy officer, has always been corrupt in aligning his doubling power with his enemies, as he is an officer who can only hit and lay low from the front.

Conversely, there are no more abilities than front-line commanders, but they are still brave and twice as brave as men, so they played a glorious role in the war of group island domination, and Skipius finally rose to the rank of commander-in-chief in that war.

"We really need the resources and land of this Southern continent for our Western Empire to dominate the world!! Let's go to war now! Get your soldiers together!!

Skipius, who smashed into a speech that everyone listens to for a long time, concluded this again as usual, but honestly no one is the leader of the regiment who is listening seriously.

Everyone now understands that world domination and so on is a dream story.

It was a hundred years ago that such opportunities were in the Empire.

The glorious age has passed when heroes competed to emerge and become active, and when the Empire had the temper, momentum and luck to swallow the world.

The last hero of the Empire, Altrius, who appeared forty years ago, suffered the worry of a left-hand transition, cited as a defeat in a political struggle, and ended up on the northern periphery after a temporary success.

Since then, the empire has been in a state of stagnation and decline, and hegemony is gradually shifting to the Kingdom of Siluha and the emerging countries of the West.

"I have to go!! For tomorrow of the Empire!!!

But here was a man who had mistaken himself for a hero.

It's the usual assertion, but Skipius has apparently been very dissatisfied because he has been able to interact from his surroundings all along and let his opinions be withdrawn.

Today is ever more compelling and the voice is in a high state.

As Hiltius hesitated to speak, one Legion Leader stood up and made his point.

"Commander-in-Chief, we just stepped into battle unprepared, and we can't fathom the big tribe, we should wait for supplies to gather enough troops before we come.

"... you! Defeatists go away! Morale's down!

"No it's not, I don't want defeat. I'm just pointing out that you're likely to defeat. That's the only way to make defeat as low as possible. If we start a war without getting ready to fight clearly, and if we run short of supplies or troops, it will instead result in lower morale.

Without taking the scolding of Squipius seriously, Hiltius and the other heads of the regiment, whose commander, Flawius Catulus, the new 101st Legion Commander, carries on his words with extreme calm.

"That's defeatism, you idiot!! I'm a deserter. I don't like Adamantius' shitty grandpa, but I don't care if you're taught! Wisely opinionated 100 years early!!

"General Adamantius is also to be said of my division, but no matter what they say, there is no reason to wage war now.

"Hey Amen Ugh!!?

Pissed and abandoned, Scipius emitted to his angry mind floats his blue muscles across his forehead, turning his face bright red and shaking his fist.

"Wait, Commander-in-Chief, a true hero is what listens to his men.

When Hiltius looks at Scipius with his hand on the sword and says aggressively, Scipius stops the movement perfectly.

And the look of anger until then, he laughed and put his floating hips back in the chair.

Hands, of course, are assembled on a desk and do not make the bare gesture stretched out to the sword feel fine dust.

"Ugh! Right, heroes are generous!! All right, we're postponing the war until the soldiers are in position!

Hiltius and the Legion Chiefs lowered their hearts with relief, but Catullus and the other Legion Chiefs from the north looked at each other.

However, the battle was to be dropped off until the Imperial Army was properly prepared, both in the raven and in the corner.
