Grace Roe hadn’t slept well for several days, and today, she had finally fallen asleep only to be awakened like this. She furrowed her brows and tiptoed outside, afraid of waking the person next to her.

"Mrs. Yates, what’s the matter this time?" She sighed softly, feeling as if getting involved with this woman was like inviting trouble that would drive her insane. She didn’t know what to do now.

"Today, Joshua Hughes said he wants to send Evelyn back home and refuses to acknowledge the child she’s carrying. But didn’t he say before that if Evelyn had the child, the Hughes Family would give her an explanation and the proper status? I wasn’t making this up, was I? Yet, it’s been such a short time and he’s already turned his back on everything. Our Evelyn followed him purely and now she’s being kicked out with a child, how is she supposed to face anyone after this? If this is the case, maybe I should just lay everything out and let everyone discuss it." Her words carried three parts anger and seven parts threat.

"Mrs. Yates, I’m not clear on what happened. Let me ask Joshua, okay? I’ll talk to him first and then we can discuss." Grace accommodated her reluctantly, composed herself, and dialed Joshua Hughes’ number.

This son of hers was the one she worried about the most. Out of guilt, she always wanted to do more for him, but she never seemed to be able to get close to him. Even calling her son was nerve-wracking, but this matter couldn’t be ignored.

Before dawn, Joshua Hughes returned to the apartment. The amber lights were on, making the living room’s shag carpet feel warm and cozy. Avery Jane feared the cold, so he covered the entire home with shag carpeting, ensuring she wouldn’t feel cold even if she walked barefoot.

The bed in the bedroom was large, and she was sleeping deeply, curled up into a small bundle. If it weren’t for her black, shiny hair spread out, it would almost seem as if there was no one on the bed.

Perhaps it was the sound of the door opening, or maybe the amber light that slipped inside from the outside, but Avery Jane groggily opened her eyes, "Did you go out?"

In the evening, they had come back together, tangled on the bed for quite a while before sleeping. She didn’t even know when he had gone out.

"Oops, caught sneaking a snack, huh?" Joshua Hughes removed his suit jacket, smiling at her.

The light cast his features in a more mature and alluring way, his defiant and square chin exuding masculine virility. Avery Jane beckoned him with her finger...

"What are you doing?" Joshua Hughes was unbuttoning his shirt, leaning down to tousle her long hair. Her sleepy appearance resembled a coy little kitten.

"Checking if you snuck out to have a snack," Avery Jane murmured as she tugged firmly on his collar, pulling him onto the bed.

Joshua Hughes chuckled softly, shrugged his shoulders, and put his hands behind his head, indicating his surrender.

He was happy to play along with whatever she wanted.

"So, Avery, how do you plan to deal with me?" Joshua Hughes asked as he watched her sit on top of him, her long nightgown bunched up around her legs, with Avery Jane still half-asleep, adorably captivating.

At this moment, the apartment was filled with warmth and affection, while Joshua Hughes’ mother worried about the chaos that might ensue and hurried over to the apartment where Joshua and Avery Jane lived.

"Alexander, have the management give me the keys to South Sky Apartments." Alexander King was startled awake by Grace Roe’s call, almost rolling off the sofa.

Ever since he shamelessly moved into his father-in-law’s home during the Lunar New Year, he had further taken over Nora Thompson’s room, claiming a spot on her room’s sofa. Not sleeping well, he nearly fell off when startled like this.

Requesting the spare keys to the apartment? This sounds unreasonable, doesn’t it?

"Does Auntie have something to say to Joshua? Can I pass on a message?" Alexander naturally didn’t want to do this because Joshua disliked anyone meddling in his affairs, especially his mother, and many recent issues were related to her.

"His phone can’t be reached, so I have to find him myself. What’s the matter, Alexander? Can’t you even accommodate this one thing? I’m at the management office now; tell the manager." Grace Roe didn’t give Alexander any time or excuse for explanations.

Alexander could only instruct those below to give Grace the keys and hurriedly tried to call Joshua Hughes.
