"What lover?" Joshua Hughes didn’t like anyone speaking of Avery Jane this way at all. Even if it was a fake marriage, he considered Avery Jane as his wife now, and nobody could deny or change it. His cold gaze swept around the room, silencing those who had been whispering in the conference room...

"You should call her sister-in-law." Before Luis Hughes could speak, Joshua Hughes had already spoken, his eyes growing colder, filled with violent murderous intent.

The conference room suddenly erupted into chaos. Luis Hughes’ sister-in-law? This unidentified woman was to be the future matriarch of the Hughes Family? What about the family rules?

Luis Hughes’ eyes glistened with shock and disbelief: "Brother must be joking, how could it be possible? How could her status be worthy of becoming Madam Hughes? She wasn’t even chosen; she’s an unlucky woman..."

"You can try saying more bad things about her and test my patience." Joshua Hughes stood in the middle of the conference room, his chilly voice swirling low like frost throughout the room: "She doesn’t need to go through any selection, and her position isn’t given by you."

With these words, the conference room exploded completely. These people believed in the Hughes Clan’s family rules, thinking that it was precisely because of the ancestor’s wisdom that the Hughes Clan has been able to enjoy years of stability, and such a vast empire to squander as they pleased. The family rules were like an inviolable curse, but now the Hughes Clan’s most brilliant leader in a century was breaking the family’s proud tradition and rules himself. Would this shatter the beautiful grand plan for the Hughes Clan’s development?

"Listen carefully, all of you." Joshua Hughes’ deep voice was cold and sharp, as his fierce gaze swept across everyone seated at the conference table, speaking word by word: "This woman will become my wife. She is very introverted and shy, and I don’t want anyone disturbing her. She likes to go out to work, and I’m happy to accompany her working at Hughes Clan. If one day she becomes unhappy or doesn’t like it anymore, I can change the work environment, too. Did I make myself clear enough? Lastly, I advise everyone not to think of doing anything unfavorable to her. If anything happens to her, I don’t care if I bury the entire Hughes Clan with her."

After speaking, Joshua Hughes’ cold eyes squinted dangerously: "After all, these are my private affairs. If the uncles really want to follow the rules, Joshua wouldn’t mind going through the formalities."

The surrounding voices suddenly quieted down, Joshua Hughes’ mix of threats and inducements left everyone speechless. On the surface, he seemed to be conceding, yet in truth he was forcing everyone to recognize this woman as the wife of the Hughes Clan’s president.

"You’re being reckless..." Luis Hughes felt unwillingly as he watched the sudden turn of events.

"Luis Hughes, this is a company. Please call me President Hughes, or President." Joshua Hughes, with a tall, statuesque figure like an elegant leopard, slowly walked up to Luis Hughes: "From now on, I don’t want to hear anyone commenting on her, or don’t blame me for being impolite."

Turning around, he took a couple of steps to the door, suddenly turning his head back: "Congratulations, Luis Hughes. You’ve managed to get ahead of me in something. I’ll transfer the red envelope to your account; you’ve leveled up, and naturally I, as an uncle, won’t be stingy." With that, he turned his steps and elegantly left the conference room.

Joshua Hughes knew very well there were many upset people here, especially Luis Hughes, but it was entirely unconsidered. He didn’t want Avery Jane bearing such a reputation, which was unfair to her.

But where did those photos come from? There were close-ups one after another of Avery Jane; he could conclude all were taken by Lucas Yates, the techniques being the same as those photos previously sent to the "Imperial Garden." Where these photos came from was plain to see. The greatest danger now wasn’t the views of the company directors but rather Luis Hughes knowing more about Avery Jane’s past. Such matters sometimes are just like a small stone thrown into water, clearly just a very small piece, yet it ripples circle after circle, causing the entire surface to never become calm again...

Sister-in-law? Luis Hughes covered his cheek; in his hand, there was still a photo, a special one of Avery Jane, lightly smiling like fresh blossoms of pear flowers on a spring branch, pure and elegant.
