Chapter 928 - 485: I Just Feel a Little Heartache

The sunlight in spring wasn’t particularly glaring. Avery Jane looked out the window; she seemed truly exhausted these past few days. But how was she supposed to sort out some things? These questions weighed on her like a massive stone. She didn’t want to avoid it; at the very least, she should know if she really was married.

She walked to the cabinet, opened the drawer, and inside lay her marriage certificate with Joshua Hughes. She gently brushed her fingers over it. What did this mean? If Nora Thompson hadn’t lied, then this marriage certificate was probably not genuine. Nowadays, everything could be counterfeit, and making a fake marriage certificate wasn’t difficult, especially for someone like Joshua Hughes.

She picked up the phone and dialed a number: "Beckett Wright, it’s Avery Jane......"

Beckett Wright, sitting in the design studio, held the phone. His heart seemed to skip a beat. Listening to the voice on the other end, still carrying a trace of sweetness, made him feel excited and a bit at a loss.

Perhaps it was his nature; since childhood, he wasn’t very good at expressing emotions. Thus, all his feelings were infused into his works through his drawings. Everyone praised his work as being full of emotion. They wouldn’t understand that designing was his emotional outlet, just like his feelings for Avery Jane.

He clearly liked her but didn’t dare to get close because he feared putting pressure on her. Yet seeing her current life made him feel restless, just not knowing how to tell her.

:"Avery Jane, is there something you need?" He adjusted his heartbeat and breathing. After missing her for so long, suddenly receiving her call made him feel the air was dense, as if time had stopped existing. All around was just her voice, clear and tense, piercing through the waves, reaching out to him....

"Beckett Wright, can I trust you?" The voice on the other end was very soft, pausing before speaking. Beckett Wright noticed his heartbeat rising and falling with her speaking tone.

"Of course, Avery Jane, you can trust me." When Beckett Wright spoke, his voice trembled slightly. Her calling him proved she still thought of him.

"I need you to help me with something. It’s a bit tricky........" Her voice was soft like water, slowly flowing out from the phone waves. Beckett Wright recalled how she looked when he first met her. She sat quietly among a group of lavishly dressed women, with no high heels, long curls, colored contacts, or elaborate makeup. Like a sleeping lotus flower, when she gently raised her eyes, it was as if the lotus quietly bloomed, beautiful and mysterious. That scene struck his heart like a speeding bullet.

"Would it trouble you?" After Avery Jane finished speaking, she felt a bit embarrassed. After all, such a request seemed rather odd.

"It’s okay, it won’t. Avery Jane, shall I call you after I’ve taken care of it?" Beckett Wright’s voice was gentle, like a breeze brushing past.

"Okay, but try not to call at night, can you call in the afternoon?" Receiving Beckett Wright’s call at night would surely make Joshua Hughes suspicious.

If she was overthinking it, and Joshua Hughes found out about this, how hurt he would be. He might even metaphorically disassemble and reassemble her bones.

"Got it, Avery Jane. Is he good to you?" Beckett Wright couldn’t help but ask; he wanted to know if that domineering man treated her well. How was her life?

"Actually, he’s really good to me, it’s just, I just feel...." Avery Jane choked up with the phone in hand. She didn’t know how to say it. Joshua Hughes really was good to her; she just felt something was off. She guessed the man in the photo she saw was probably Lucas Yates.

So familiar, so amiable, so heartbreaking.

She wanted to figure all this out, to be responsible for herself and also for Joshua Hughes.

"Don’t force yourself, Avery Jane. Many things, you can only judge after you’ve slowly remembered them." Beckett Wright knew her mind now was different from before, having been hurt. He was more afraid of upsetting her.

"Thank you, Beckett Wright." Avery Jane thanked him. She didn’t know why, but she always felt Beckett Wright was someone she could trust, so she suddenly called him.
