Chapter 890 - 466: You Don’t Even Know Who Slept with You? (2)
Luis Hughes felt a sharp pain in his chest; he could hardly speak at all.
The secretary was completely terrified, slumped weakly at the door, until Joshua Hughes looked up and said, "Call an ambulance for Manager Hughes." Glancing at the bloodstains on the floor, he added disdainfully, "Clean it up." Then he walked out coldly.

"Mrs. Hughes, as things stand, I’m not going to say much more. Your Hughes Clan has done such things, it’s always Evelyn who suffers. Since she already has the Second Young Master’s child, we’ve accepted it. We don’t need to hold the wedding right away, but let’s at least get the marriage certificate done, and the rest can wait until after the child is born." Harper Johnson spoke bitterly. Although Luis Hughes had quite a lot of shares, ultimately, Hughes Clan was Joshua Hughes’s domain now; what he said went, and Luis was always inferior to Joshua.
Grace Roe frowned in distress, recalling when she asked Luis about the matter earlier, and his shocked and angry response: "Impossible, absolutely impossible, and I don’t want that woman. Having a child is her problem, I won’t acknowledge it." Her two sons were equally stubborn; Luis was never going to marry Evelyn Yates, and she no longer wanted to be involved with anyone from the Yates Family.
"The children are grown up now; their matters are out of my hands." Grace Roe said helplessly, looking worn out and shaking her head. Though it was an excuse, it was also true; she simply couldn’t dictate her sons’ decisions.
"So Evelyn just ends up being ruined by your Hughes Clan for nothing?" Harper flared up at these words. She’d thought of compromising, yet now the Hughes Family wouldn’t even accept the compromise.
"Then I must ask, how did Miss Yates come to be involved with Luis Hughes? Miss Yates, you owe Hughes Clan an explanation. You’ve caused the brothers to turn against each other, and if you really enter the Hughes Family, how do you plan to face Joshua in the future?" Grace Roe stared at Harper Johnson. This woman should never have tangled with her. A single misstep had led to a cascade of errors, and now there was no turning back; she didn’t want to further implicate her sons.
Harper Johnson and Evelyn Yates hadn’t expected that normally elegant and dignified Mrs. Hughes would speak so sharply. Such questions made them feel awkward and unable to answer.
In just one day, Evelyn Yates was utterly despondent. She didn’t know how she ended up in such a situation; she herself didn’t even know how that night Joshua Hughes turned into another man whom she didn’t recognize. She only loved Joshua Hughes, even though he hurt her so heartlessly. She couldn’t bear to marry another man, yet there was no hope whatsoever of marrying Joshua; not the slightest bit. Who would want a woman who’d been toyed with, and who was even pregnant, to be their wife?
Her gaze was empty; she was now like a puppet on strings, doing whatever Harper Johnson told her to, marrying whoever she was told to marry.
"This is so frustrating, can’t you speak?" Harper gripped her dazed daughter’s arm tightly...
"I don’t know..." Bowing her head, her originally wine-red dyed hair hadn’t been dyed again since she got pregnant. The black roots had grown long, but the ends remained wine-red. Her face looked dull, spotted with faint blemishes, wrapped in a bulky cotton coat, looking markedly unkempt. How could the Yates Family afford to buy her lavish furs? A simple style, but any top-quality piece costs hundreds of thousands, considered cheap compared to what she picked from the lavish catalogue while at the Hughes Family, choosing the most luxurious long styles that could hide her belly while showcasing her identity. But now the Yates Family could only buy her such cotton coats. Her features remained stunningly beautiful but lacked the air of luxury she had while being pampered by the Hughes Family. She didn’t want to live that way at the Yates Family; she used to think it was alright, but now she understood what kind of life was considered good. Yet that ’good’ life had vanished like an illusion.
"Who slept with you, how they did it, you don’t even know? Was it that heartless Joshua Hughes forcing you?" Harper was nearly hysterical, finding her daughter like this when she brought her back. Evelyn was dazed, not responding or saying anything.
Grace Roe frowned as she looked at the mother and daughter, finding them crude and unsophisticated. It was just as well; if Joshua married such a girl, how would she face Joshua’s father underground in the future?
"After the child is born, I will raise them. As for Miss Yates, I will provide a significant amount of money to ensure she has comfort and ease for her entire life." This might be the best solution; the child bore the Hughes name and couldn’t just be abandoned. She had to dedicate effort to ensure proper upbringing.
"Impossible, do you think we are nobodies, Mrs. Hughes? The mask is off. Evelyn and her brother’s possessions are not gifts to be given freely. Don’t force me to hold a press conference." Grace Roe certainly would not be stingy with money, but it couldn’t compare to the assets of the Hughes Family and the shares controlled by Luis Hughes. Was she trying to dismiss them like beggars?
Grace’s face turned ashen, her lips trembled as she looked at this woman in front of her, almost suspecting her blood ran cold. What was she even thinking, exchanging her children’s interests again and again?
