Chapter 195: The People From The Organization
Chapter 195
Meanwhile, several kilometers away, a sleek black state of the art military helicopter was moving steadily through the clouds high above the bustling city skyline.
The powerful blades were rotating so rapidly above the aircraft, that it produced a constant sort of hum that filled the otherwise quiet cabin. Inside, three people sat in the passenger compartment while the pilot himself remained focused on the controls at the front, expertly navigating through the air like the professional he was.
One of the passengers was a tall man dressed in a long dark coat. His posture was relaxed, and his expression remained calm as he stared down through the helicopter’s window at the distant city below, thoroughly enjoying the stunning view.
Beside him sat a beautiful woman with long fiery red hair that fell naturally across her shoulders and a curvy frame that was nothing short of impressive. She was completely absorbed in the book held between her hands, seemingly unaffected by the helicopter’s constant vibration.
Across from them, however, was a young man who by the way looked considerably less pleased with the entire situation.
He leaned back against his seat and released a long, exaggerated sigh that could probably win an award for the longest sigh in the world.
"Seriously, why can’t someone else other than us do this job?"
The red-haired woman slowly lowered her book and glanced at him. But Carl continued before she could respond.
"Think about it. There are probably about like a dozen Awakeneds out there dealing with actual problems right now, and here we are, stuck flying across the city because the higher-ups decided that it was best our team should personally recruit some random guy."
He shook his head with frustration.
"We’re missing all the action back there just to pick up one person. Doesn’t that kind of bug you guys?"
The fiery-haired woman stared at him for several seconds before returning her attention back to her book.
"Would you stop your whining, Carl or do you want me to burn that hair of yours again? Some of us here are actually trying to do something important."
Carl’s mouth twitched.
"Claire, I’m just saying..."
"You’re always just saying something."
She flipped another page.
The man in the dark coat finally glanced toward Carl and interjected.
"Claire is right. This mission is very important."
His calm voice immediately caused Carl to stop complaining. Carl looked toward him as he continued his words.
"The higher-ups wouldn’t have personally assigned us to retrieve someone unless they believed that person was valuable. Whoever we’re going to recruit could even become an indispensable asset to our group, since we need all the Awakeneds we can get for those hideous things."
Carl scratched the back of his head.
"Fine, fine. Sorry." He leaned back again, although his expression remained somewhat dissatisfied. "But there is something I still don’t understand."
Claire sighed in annoyance without looking up from her book and asked.
"What now?"
"How are we supposed to know who we’re recruiting when we haven’t even seen his or her photo?"
That finally made Claire pause and she too looked at the man in the dark coat as Carl gestured toward him.
"Yes. We have been given a location and all, but that’s basically it. There is no photo or even a proper description about the person. nothing. What if there are even several people living there? How do we identify the exact person we are looking for? We can’t exactly go there screaming, we are looking for an Awakened."
The man remained silent for a moment before answering.
"Hmm. Well I was told by the higher-ups that the target currently lives in the Le Sommét Imperial Penthouse."
Carl raised an eyebrow.
"The Le Sommét Imperial Penthouse? Fancy. Sounds like a place for some rich guy."
"Yeah, well it is a place for a rich guy."
"Wait what! So you’re telling me that the guy we’re going to be bringing is some kind of rich guy? What the hell."
"He is still an Awakened, and would be very valuable."
"But... Rich brats are the worst. What if he turns out to be like that guy from squad 2, was it Nicolas or something. You know? The one who because his father is a higher up thinks he owns the place. Plus his ability is so lame.."
"Well... His ability is pretty bad, but that’s no way to talk about a comrade, Carl. Besides, not all rich kids are bad, just give this one a chance."
Then the man turned his gaze toward the city ahead.
"And as for how we will recognize him. Apparently, the higher ups said that the person has the organization’s token with them."
Carl’s expression changed slightly.
"The token? Then why didn’t they just give us the person’s name?"
"Do I look like the higher up to you. Why would I know why they did that? But all I can say is that we will know when we arrive."
Claire quietly turned another page.
"As long as the person has the token, we won’t have a problem identifying him or her."
Carl nodded reluctantly.
"Ok. I suppose that’s true."
The helicopter continued forward through the sky...
...Meanwhile back at the five star restaurant, Alex remained seated across from Doris. Though his expression was normal, his mind was still turning over everything he had just heard not too long ago from Doris’s phone.
The call recording had confirmed exactly what his gut feeling had been telling him. Well not exactly about marrying the guy from the house of Blumonté part, but it had still told him something was wrong that time.
Now it turned out the Von Aurelian family wanted to marry Nyx to the son of the House of Blumonté.
And Nyx had bought him three good months.
Alex’s fingers slowly loosened beneath the table.
He then glanced toward Doris.
It wasn’t a particularly long glance, but it carried enough meaning that anyone who knew him well would have understood what he was implying.
Doris met his gaze briefly.
Neither of them said anything. Alex didn’t really need to this time. He already knew Doris must have deliberately left her phone behind.
And well, for the recording to start playing a bit after she was gone with no one touching the phone could only mean one thing, she must have most probably used her ability.
It was simple really. Since he could slow down time then why couldn’t Doris also do the same when what he had was literally a copy of her ability. Yeah, hanging out with Nyx had him thinking a bit like her.
But Alex wasn’t going to expose Doris. Since she did what she did, it was best to leave it like that. At that exact moment, the door of their private room suddenly pushed opened, and the waiter returned carrying several plates.
"Your food has arrived sir and ma’am."
Then the waiter carefully placed the dishes across the large exquisitely well crafted table with fine marksmanship.
One dish after another soon covered almost the entire surface, including several varieties of meat, seafood, vegetables, rice, soup, and various side dishes.
After confirming that everything had arrived, the waiter bowed politely before leaving them alone again.
Alex looked at the enormous amount of food that looked like a feast with satisfaction in his eyes, with Doris also doing the exact same thing.
Neither of them seemed particularly bothered by the large volume that was enough to fill a big family and still remain for seconds, if anything they were even starving.
After all, both of them were not exactly normal humans. They were individuals whose metabolism was far beyond that of ordinary humans, and besides after spending most of their day moving between several companies, they had worked up quite a bit of an appetite.
Then without wasting much time, they dug into their food and began eating with the conversation between them remaining relatively casual while they ate, and with neither of them bringing up Nyx’s situation again.
Alex deliberately avoided discussing the recording in the restaurant. There was no reason to attract unnecessary attention.
Instead, he focused on the food and occasionally discussed about the companies they had visited earlier, and some ideas he had which could actually help most of them.
Before long, almost every plate on the table had been wiped clean off. With not even a speck of food remaining.
Doris placed her utensils down and leaned back slightly.
"Now that hit the spot. Still I feel like I could go for seconds, what about you?"
"No thanks. I think I’ll pass on that."
"Hmm... me too. I just remembered that eating another would make me too stuffed to eat my ice cream back home."
"What a little Foodie."
"Says the guy with a stomach as large as the whole of America."
They both laughed lightly. And for a brief moment, the tension that had been previously surrounding their lives seemed to disappear.
After paying the bill, they left the restaurant together. Outside, the cool evening air greeted them as they stepped onto the street.
They eventually reached a point where their paths separated. Doris stopped and looked at Alex before finally saying.
"Guess I’ll see you tomorrow."
Alex nodded.
"Yeah. Go get some rest."
"You too."
Doris then turned and left.
Alex watched her disappear into the distance before turning toward his own destination. Today there was no need to use Void Step or run. After everything that had happened recently, he simply wanted to walk for a while.
His thoughts inevitably returned to Nyx.
Three months.
He had already decided that he would reach Master Realm before then.
And once he did, he would personally go to the Von Aurelian family.
He didn’t know exactly what awaited him there, but he would make sure that Nyx wouldn’t be forced into a marriage she didn’t want. Especially since she was his woman and was at the same time pregnant with his child. There would be no way his flesh and blood would calls someone else daddy.
As for Jade, he still had to bring her back as well. After all, she was also his woman and he had a responsibility toward his women.
Alex’s eyes gradually became firmer. He wasn’t going to lose either of them.
By the time he finally reached the vicinity of the Le Sommét Imperial Penthouse, it was already getting late.
However, something immediately caught his attention.
Not too far from his penthouse a helicopter was parked there. Alex slowed down and his forest-green eyes narrowed slightly as he examined the aircraft.
That was strange. He hadn’t been expecting anyone.
The helicopter appeared to be some kind of military or government aircraft based on its design, and although Alex couldn’t immediately determine its exact specifications, there was no doubt that it wasn’t an ordinary civilian helicopter.
There were four people associated with it, including the pilot.
Three passengers were inside the aircraft.
Alex’s instincts immediately became more alert. Could this be related to the organization? After all, the silver haired woman had indeed said some people would come to take him to the organization today...
He hadn’t even had time to properly consider the possibility when the helicopter’s side door opened and a man stepped out.
He was wearing a long dark coat that moved slightly in the same direction as the breeze.
The moment Alex saw his face, his eyes widened almost imperceptibly.
He recognized that man from anywhere. There was no mistake about it. It was the same man he had encountered previously.
The same Ascendant Realm expert who had been present beside Olivia. And the same powerful Awakened who had later appeared at the station when he and Jade had been arrested because of the entire Kade family sending Awakeneds to kill him incident.
