Suddenly a short distance away, the insanely handsome young man finally stepped forward with a warm smile that contrasted sharply with the heavy tension around him.
"Come on, twin sis," He exclaimed gently, even almost pleading with her. "Grandfather has already lifted the ban. He misses both you and little sister terribly."
"Even I..." he smiled helplessly. "I miss you two so much! You really have no idea how boring the main island has been without you two there. I’m always forced to train everyday, so of course I miss my two sisters. Especially you, my beautiful twin sister."
For the first time since the convoy had arrived, the coldness in Nyx’s amber eyes surprisingly weakened.
It was so tiny that only someone paying close attention could even bother noticing it, since Nyx was very very good at hiding her true emotions.
Alex silently watched everything unfold. It was obvious that despite everything that had happened, Nyx still cared deeply about the man before her.
After all... They were twins. Though Alex was still surprised more than anything. He never knew that Nyx had a twin brother. This woman really knew how to keep things secret
Unfortunately, that brief softness disappeared almost as quickly as it had appeared. Nyx slowly turned her attention away from him, locking her gaze straight onto her father’s authoritative face.
"What’s the real reason you want us back?" Nyx asked, her voice dropping into a low tone. "Because knowing Grandfather, he isn’t exactly someone who easily changes his mind. He wouldn’t easily take back his word after going out of his way to disown me a few years back. There is definitely a very specific, very pressing reason why he suddenly changed his mind and wants me back now."
Her father remained silent for several seconds before finally letting out a quiet sigh that made the heavy medals on his military uniform to shift ever so slightly with the movement of his broad chest. "I see your brain is still as sharp as ever."
He then folded both hands behind his back and continued.
"But I cannot answer that here. Your grandfather would have to explain the details to you himself once we return. Now, enough of all these endless questions. Go call your sister immediately. We are leaving right now."
Nyx’s expression hardened once more, and she said coldly. "No."
The single word echoed across the quiet estate, making most of the people behind her father shocked.
Her father’s brows slowly furrowed. "What exactly do you mean by... no?"
"It means exactly what I just said," Nyx replied, her posture unbending as she stared him down without a single trace of fear on her face. "I am not going anywhere. Does the Von Aurelian family really think they can just call for me whenever it suits their wishes? After throwing me away with nothing but the clothes on my back, do you honestly believe you can just show up at my doorstep today and take me back whenever you feel like it?"
The handsome young man sighed helplessly before taking another step closer. "Look, twin sis please," he urged softly, his voice full of genuine concern. "I know you’re still hurt and angry. And honestly I don’t blame you at all. I too would have been livid with anger. But please just listen to Father. Grandfather really does want to see you both. Can’t you at least hear him out? Even mom misses you."
"No, Lucian," Nyx interrupted, her voice firm and resolute as she looked directly into her twin brother’s sincere ocean-blue eyes . "I’ve already made up my mind, and I am not going anywhere."
She slowly looked around the estate before glancing at her flat tummy, carrying her own flesh and blood before looking back up once more.
"This is my home now."
Lucian closed his eyes with a bitter smile and muttered.
"I figured you’d say that..."
Before he could continue, the deep and powerful voice of their father interrupted everything.
"You are coming back with us today, Nyx, and that is final. I will not hear another word of defiance."
Alex, who had been standing quietly until now, finally took one step forward, positioning himself just half a pace ahead of Nyx to shield her.
"Uncle,"
The word caused everyone’s attention to shift toward him.
"If she doesn’t want to go, then I think it’s best you respect her wishes. You can’t just come here and try to force her to leave with you after turning your backs on her once before. Simply because you changed your mind."
The moment the words left his mouth, Lucian blinked. Only now did he properly look at the good looking young man standing very close to his precious sister.
"Sis, and who is he exactly?" Lucian asked, pointing a long finger toward Alex while glancing at his sister.
Alex smiled. "Oh me? Well I’m no one special." He said scratching the back of his head. "I’m just her boyfriend... and hopefully... her future husband."
For the first time since they arrived, Nyx’s father finally shifted his gaze entirely onto Alex. His sharp amber eyes scanned the young man from head to toe before a cold, dismissive sneer curled up at the corner of his lips.
"Quite the ambitious dream, boy." He spoke as though looking at an insignificant ant. "But unfortunately, that is one dream that is destined to remain only a dream."
Before the conversation could spiral any further, the sounds of approaching footsteps echoed from behind him. Both Jade and Doris had finally arrived after noticing all the commotion outside.
The moment Jade’s eyes landed on the exceptionally handsome young man standing beside her father, her steps faltered.
Her usually emotionless eyes widened. "Big brother..."
Then her indifferent face actually changed. Her eyes first became watery as various indescribable emotions flashed across her beautiful face.
Lucian immediately smiled. "Little sister." He opened both arms instinctively.
Yet Jade quickly stopped herself halfway after noticing the tense situation around her. Her gaze first shifted to Nyx, before moving toward their father.
Then the warmth inside her eyes gradually faded. And instead of walking toward Lucian... She quietly stepped beside Nyx.. Her face hardened back into its usual aloof mask as she closed the distance and took her place directly beside her sister.
Lucian sighed. "Sigh. Jade. At least It’s good, you’re here. Please, help me convince our stubborn sister over here that she should just follow us back home without causing a scene."
Jade remained silent for several moments before finally answering. "As much as I want to agree, Big Brother... I will only follow whatever Big Sis says."
Lucian’s mouth twitched helplessly , and a look of defeat flashed across his handsome face as he covered his forehead with a hand. "Unbelievable... both of you are completely impossible."
Seeing that words were yielding zero results, Nyx’s father let out a cold, icy breath. His patience had entirely run out. He turned his head slightly toward a pretty looking woman standing directly behind him.
She was wearing a military uniform decorated with a single gold star rank insignia.
"Captain Morgan."
"Sir yes sir."
"Go get those stubborn daughters of mine," he ordered, his voice echoing like thunder across the manicured lawns. "Haul them into the vehicle if you have to. Just make sure they are here, do you hear me?"
"Yes, sir!" The female officer instantly saluted. Without another word, she immediately turned on her heel and began walking toward the two sisters.
However, before she could even take four steps, Alex shifted his weight and stepped directly into her path, blocking her way entirely.
"You’re not going to touch any of them."
The single-star female officer stopped dead in her tracks, her lips twisting into a fierce, arrogant sneer as she looked at the young man standing before her. "Get out of my way, kid, before I do something you will regret for the rest of your life."
Alex matched her glare, his posture settling into an easy, fluid battle stance just in case things went south. Since it was pretty obvious that it would go that way.
"And how about you go back before I also do something you will regret?"
Inside his mind, the familiar voice of the little chibi system suddenly chimed.
[Yes! Tell her, Host! Remind her that these hands of yours are strictly rated E for Everybody!]
Before Alex could even acknowledge the gremlin’s cheerleading, the female officer attacked. It turned out she was a freaking Ascendant Realm Awakened, so her speed was terrifying.
In a fraction of a millisecond, she closed the distance, with her small fists aimed directly at his shoulder to subdue him in a single strike.
Luckily, Alex was able to react just in time. Though at first, he had been surprised by her sudden burst of speed, his reaction time was still far superior.
So moving faster than the naked eye could track, Alex pivoted his hips and threw a punch of his own.
"BOOOOOOM!!"
The collision erupted like a small explosion except that it didn’t have heat. But there was still the presence of a shockwave and the ground beneath them shattered, sending dirt and stone flying into the sky, to form a crater nearly fifty meters wide
The woman’s eyes widened and before she could react, her entire body was blasted backward.
She flew nearly dozens of meters before forcefully digging both boots deep into the ground, causing deep trenches to stretch as she forcibly stopped herself just in time.
As the thick dust settled, the female officer’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief as she stared at the young man who she had just dismissed as weak, but her shock quickly turned into embarrassment. Roaring in frustration, she pushed her power to the absolute limit.
She dashed forward again, breaking the sound barrier with an audible sonic boom that shattered the air around her. Then she aimed a lethal, fully-powered strike straight for Alex’s chest, intending to crush his chest entirely.
Alex didn’t dodge. Instead, he simply stepped forward and punched out once more with staggering speed that looked unreal. He made sure to deliberately miss.
The female officer’s pupils shrank as the fist passed her ear. For a split second there was nothing. Then BOOOOOOM!!
The compressed air from the punch exploded forward. An unimaginably violent shockwave and gust of wind tore through the estate, shattering the stone path ways on the way, and accidentally heading directly toward the Von Aurelian convoy.
Lucian’s expression changed slightly and several soldiers instinctively prepared themselves.
But before the devastating shockwave could impact the vehicles, Nyx’s father casually raised his right hand. And with a simple, effortless wave of his wrist, the terrifying wall of wind simply disappeared as though it were erased from existence.
His sharp amber eyes narrowed slightly as he evaluated the scene.
Lucian let out a low whistle, a smirk playing on his lips despite the situation. "Hmph! No wonder you had such courage to talk like that just now. You’re actually in the Ascendant Realm."
Lucian then turned his head toward his father, his hand hovering near his waist. "Father, should I deal with him? It’ll only take a moment."
His father calmly shook his head.
"No. You’ll just waste too much time. Besides what have I told you. Do not underestimate your opponent."
After saying that to Lucian, he turned his gaze back to Alex, looking at the young man as if he were nothing more than a minor inconvenience.
"This matter does not concern you, boy. You have a bright future ahead as a young Ascendant Realm expert. Walk away now, or you will have only yourself to blame for what happens next."
Alex didn’t say a single word in reply. He simply widened his stance slightly, shifting his center of gravity while keeping his body firmly planted between them and Nyx. His silence and did all the talking for him.
They would have to kill him to touch his pregnant woman, and her sister.
The man’s amber eyes that strongly resembled Nyx’s own, gleamed with a dangerous light.
Without another word, Nyx’s father took a single, deliberate step forward toward Alex.
The moment his boot touched the ground, Alex could feel every single fibre of his being screaming only one thing! Danger!!
