Annie’s light blue eyes widened even further, her lips parting in strong disbelief.
"W-what the f*ck...?" She blurted out, unable to hide the shock in her own voice. "Since when did you also become an Ascendant Realm Awakened?"
She stared at Alex as though she were looking at a complete stranger. Wasn’t the guy supposed to still be in Vanguard Realm Awakened? Then why was he now an Ascendant Realm Awakened also?
"If I remember correctly, this morning, when you came to see me, you were still only a Vanguard Realm Awakened. Don’t tell me you broke through in just a few hours! Because this makes absolutely no sense at all!"
Alex merely chuckled softly, while still keeping his grip firm but careful around her slender wrist so he wouldn’t accidentally hurt her.
"I could also ask you the exact same thing, beautiful, so let’s not focus too much on that right now."
But instead of resolving things, his answer only deepened the confusion on everyone’s faces. From the side, Doris slowly shook her head, still struggling to wrap her mind around everything that had happened.
"Now that I think of it, this is very strange."
Her cool voice immediately drew the attention of everyone.
"Breaking through from Vanguard Realm to Ascendant Realm is like one of the first biggest bottlenecks for an Awakened. Countless geniuses remain trapped at the Vanguard Realm for years.... Some even for their entire lives."
She looked from Annie.... To Alex... Before finally glancing toward Jade.
"So how could all of us advance on the exact same day? Don’t you all find it very strange?"
Jade blinked. Now that Doris had mentioned it, the weirdness of the whole situation finally hit her. How could four different people, all staying inside the exact same building, magically become Ascendant Realm experts on the very same day? The same realm many Awakened spend years trying to break through.
Earlier, after breaking through, she had been overwhelmed with joy, even if her face didn’t show it at that time. Because the only thing on her mind back then was the idea about how her sudden new strength would allow her to defeat whoever the Kade family were sending.
Then the old man, senior Jefferson had immediately appeared afterwards, forcing her and Doris, who surprisingly had also broken through to Ascendant Realm, into battle before either of them could properly think about anything else.
But now, looking around... She suddenly began to realize something terrifying. Four people. Approximately four Awakeneds, inside the same mansion. All becoming Ascendant Realm experts, on the exact same day was an event that had never happened in history.
"... This is impossible," Jade murmured under her breath. "There has to be some kind of reason."
Even Annie couldn’t help narrowing her eyes thoughtfully. Although she hated everyone present, she wasn’t stupid. After all, stupid people could never survive in a brutal place like Heukryeon.
One person breaking through could be called luck. Two people breaking through would be a coincidence. But four?! That was far beyond a simple coincidence. That was enough to make to make anyone suspicious.
Standing quietly behind Alex, Nyx observed every body’s expression without saying a word. Her amber eyes slowly swept across Annie, then moved to Jade. followed by Doris, before finally settling on Alex’s broad back.
A thoughtful light flashed deep inside her beautiful eyes as she thought of something.
"So that’s it..." She murmured almost inaudibly, as pieces that had never fit together before suddenly began connecting inside her head. Her gaze lingered on Alex for several long seconds with what looked like surprise.
Just then, Annie suddenly shook her head and clicked her tongue impatiently, her expression hardening once again as she completely brushed away her confusion.
"Whatever! It doesn’t matter how you did it. Even if you are now an Ascendant Realm Awakened,"
Her expression gradually turned cold.
"I still have someone I must kill today." Her sharp eyes shifted past Alex’s shoulder until they landed on Nyx. "And even you won’t be able to stop me this time, pretty boy!"
With a sudden twist of her shapely hips, Annie gathered her power and launched a fierce, blindingly fast side kick straight toward Alex’s ribs. Just the sheer speed and force of that kick whipped up a massive gale of wind, and just the rushing breeze from the strike alone was so strong that it tore up part of the ground, leaving deep rifts there.
To avoid getting hit, Alex had no other choice but to let go of her hand and swiftly step backward to dodge the powerful attack
"Got you." Annie smirked coldly, and didn’t waste even a single millisecond of that brief opportunity. The very moment her foot touched the ground, she spun around and thrust her palms directly toward the space behind him.
Then a small, highly condensed crimson Supernova formed at the tip of her fingers, crackling with so much destructive power that it felt suffocating, as she launched it straight toward Nyx.
Alex’s eyes widened in shock. Even though that tiny ball of energy looked way smaller than any crimson Supernova he had seen Annie form before, he could feel that even small, it was not in anyways weaker than the previous ones she had used against him when he was still in South Korea.
As someone who had faced crimson Supernova before, he knew exactly how dangerous that ability could be, and at this close range, a direct hit would cause catastrophic damage.
There was no time to think. So, without any hesitation, his forest green eyes turned into a light shade of purple with a very defined, intricate clockwork design ticking within them.
Then he activated the second ability of Eye Of Chronos, which made time slow down to a twentieth of it’s original speed.
The blazing crimson ball of chaotic primordial essence, which had been flying toward Nyx like a bullet, was suddenly frozen in mid air. It crept forward, centimeter by centimeter through the area like a lazy snail.
The sight was a beautiful as it was strange, but Alex had no time to admire it. Moving with calm, effortless strides through the extremely slow world, he walked past the floating explosive ball.
He then stepped up to Nyx’s side and carefully wrapped his strong arms around her curvy figure, before gently pulling her away from the line of fire.
He made sure to carry her to a safe distance across the yard, and placed her down gently on a still intact patch of grass. But he didn’t stop there. Knowing that the explosion would be massive, he swiftly moved across the ruined courtyard.
He picked up Jade and Doris one by one, carefully moving everyone from where they were, and placed them safely at the far edge of the estate’s grounds, where hopefully the blast wouldn’t be able to reach them.
When he finished moving everyone to safety, Alex walked back to the center of the yard and looked at Annie, who was still frozen solid in casting pose.
He then crossed his arms, with his mind working nonstop at top speed as another minute passed. He had to figure out a way to completely stop Annie without killing her or causing her any real physical Realm
Just then, a sudden memory flashed through his mind. He vaguely recalled seeing a very good item during his previous time checking the system’s interface. Wasn’t it sleeping portion? Yeah he thought so, but still, he decided to check it out.
’System, please show me my store.’

In less than a heartbeat, a clean translucent digital screen materialized directly in front of his face, glowing with a serene light in the middle of the yard.

A faint smile slowly appeared on his face. If that item worked exactly the way he hoped it would... Then maybe, just maybe, he had found a way to end this entire stuff without hurting Annie. All he would just have to do is make Annie drink this, and she should most definitely be asleep for a while.
