He wiped his lips, "What’s wrong?"

Lin Hua looked into his eyes and said very softly, "I want to continue my music career."

King Jingyao slowed his lip-wiping motion slightly, then he smiled faintly: "What suddenly brought this on?"

Not waiting for Lin Hua to speak, he continued: "Let’s talk about this when I come back tonight."

He checked the time on his watch, "I have an important meeting to attend. There might be socializing tonight, I’ll try to come back early."

He leaned over and kissed his wife: "Eat first by yourself, be good."

Lin Hua watched him leave, sitting quietly at the dining table. After a long while, she gently touched her own face. Her heart felt a bit weary.

They weren’t ordinary husband and wife.

She even thought about his previous wife; did she also feel so exhausted?

But Lin Hua didn’t know, King Jingyao never coaxed his previous wife like this. He loved and coaxed her this much, aside from his insistence on being unable to help it, he gave her everything.

That day, King Jingyao was in a bad mood, somewhat downcast throughout. Even sitting in the car, Wang Jingchuan sensed it and tried to cheer him up, saying with a smile: "What’s the matter? Slept in the study?"

King Jingyao snorted lightly: "Do you think I’m the type to wrong myself?"

As he said this, there was still a trace of charisma in his brows and eyes, Wang Jingchuan sneaked a glance and believed him.

However, he was puzzled, if not sleeping in the study, why was his mood still poor?

Or, there was some kind of issue?

Wang Jingchuan considered himself King Jingyao’s top confidant, able to say things others couldn’t, hesitated a bit then concernedly asked: "Should we take some time to get a check-up, ask the doctor for some medicine?"

King Jingyao immediately sensed what was implied, frowned: "Jingchuan, what nonsense are you talking?"

Wang Jingchuan chuckled, silently thinking: No need to be embarrassed, men in their forties having these or those problems is perfectly normal, besides Lin Hua is just over thirty, naturally... needs to keep up. Otherwise, wouldn’t the couple be out of sync?

King Jingyao saw his expression, snorted lightly: "What a load of nonsense, I’m just fine."

Wang Jingchuan dared not speak further, afraid of angering his superior.

The two went to the office and heard a big joke... Chen Ming’s mother was sent back, that villa couldn’t be seen like before, looking like a battlefield. Those who went described it vividly and colorfully, and Zhou Yunchen rebutted it, but such an amusing thing spread like wings everywhere, not something to stop by merely closing mouths. Especially when men drink, once they’re in high spirits, they start joking around, all saying Chen Ming is lucky.

King Jingyao also sat at the banquet, playing with a wine glass in his hand, laughed lightly upon hearing: This isn’t Chen Ming’s luck, that’s clearly Anxi’s little brat playing a prank on him, played a bit too much.

He was both amused and frustrated in his heart, yet couldn’t do much about her, after all, it was just children’s mischief.

His expression was indifferent, interest low, everyone around noticed so no one dared provoke him. King Jingyao found this optional social engagement rather dull and went home by ten that night.

He promised to go back early, but was still a bit late, even in the car pondering whether to find someone to ease his boredom, he thought of seeking Gu Anxi, always felt when troubled, talking with that little rascally girl could lift his spirits, maybe even give him some ideas.

Though, she was quite a handful herself.

But eventually, he gave up.

That little rascal was also a mother now, mother of two, what would it look like finding her three in the morning? Despite only having brotherly feelings for her, Xichen might get jealous, and he’s afraid his wife would overthink.

King Jingyao thought about it, rubbed his head, feeling a bit troubled.

Wang Jingchuan, at the front, asked softly: "Going back to the villa now?"

King Jingyao didn’t sound. Wang Jingchuan, someone so astute, naturally guessed there were indeed issues between him and Lin Hua, thus spoke softly: "Didn’t you always say, a wife is to be cherished, even when unreasonable, to coax her and give in a bit."

King Jingyao said softly: "I’m willing, but someone isn’t appreciating it. Last night over some small issue, had a tiff with me. This morning I humbled myself to coax her, yet she not only refused to appreciate it but told me she wants to continue her music career."

Wang Jingchuan heard and immediately sided with Lin Hua: "Madam plays the cello very well, if exiting like this, it’s a loss to music lovers."

King Jingyao glanced at him: "Is this her wanting to continue with music? She’s wanting to oppose me, I merely hinted at Wang Yue’s future plan, yet she clashed with me, taking our son to sleep in the guest room, locking the door, and giving me the silent treatment. Jingchuan, you wouldn’t know marrying a wife is like picking a beautiful god to worship, can’t hit or scold, can’t say things that work, everything must go her way. Do you think it’s worth it?"

He’s merely venting in front of a confidant like Wang Jingchuan, such words can’t be said to others. Complaining to the old lady at home would likely get him a scolding.

Wang Jingchuan smiled hearing this: "Boss, you’re blessed but unaware, want to snatch when you don’t have it, once you do, find it bothersome. I say you’re probably destined to be busy, not enjoying life."

This was actually a joke, yet truly touched King Jingyao. After hearing it, he fell silent, turning to look out the window.

Outside, it was pitch black.

After a long while, he finally spoke hoarsely: "Is everyone from the Wang Family destined like this?"

His parents were like this too, his mother came from a prestigious family, never got married until the doorsteps were worn out. But she chose someone who at the time was just a poor boy, naturally, they could’ve been indifferent couples but weren’t. His mother, like him, was so strong-willed, and the old gentleman spent his life bringing her glory.

The Wang Family, this is how it is, never fallen over a century.

King Jingyao isn’t clinging to this position, but couldn’t let go while he’s in it.

He traded his son with Zhou Yunchen for thirty years.

King Jingyao felt uncomfortable, Wang Jingchuan could see it, not daring to disturb him.

Finally, King Jingyao spoke softly: "Jingchuan, actually, it pains me too to upset Lin Hua. She was the one I vowed to treat well when I married. I’m not saying my love for her is earth-shattering, after all, not a young bloke anymore. But Lin Hua is a good woman deserving a lifetime of happiness. I’m even thinking to exercise well after retiring, look not so old, accompany her for as long as possible."

These words made Secretary Wang’s nose tingle with emotion, "Madam will feel your intentions."

"With her temperament, probably not, now her heart’s all set on opposing me." He said through gritted teeth.

Indeed, he planned the future for his son, she planned for herself, truly outstanding.

Despite criticizing, King Jingyao obediently went home.

Back home, it was late at night, the hall left lit, a maid dozing off. Upon his return, she immediately stood up: ’Sir has returned.’

King Jingyao casually took off his coat and handed it to her, then raised his head to look upstairs: "Where’s the wife? Asleep? How’s the young master now?"

He fully expected today Lin Hua would continue opposing him, taking Wang Yue to the guest room to sleep, but the maid said: "Madam stayed in her room all day without coming out much, nor did she visit the young master much."

King Jingyao’s brows furrowed: "She didn’t visit?"

"Only checked at noon, young master cried, she wanted to hold and comfort, but later didn’t, leaving it to the professional nanny instead," the maid said.

King Jingyao listened, his heart clenched tightly, feeling quite upset.
