Chapter 1118: Missing Half a Leg, Can It Heal?
Wang Kefu was very happy to see him willing to talk with him. In his heart, Lu Heng was like mountains and rivers. So he immediately sat warmly at the side of the hospital bed, "Lu Heng, are you feeling better now?"
Lu Heng glanced at him coldly and said, "With most of one leg gone, what do you think?"
Wang Kefu was taken aback and didn’t know what to say for a moment.
Lu Heng didn’t want to speak with him and said lightly, "You should leave!"
Wang Kefu felt quite disappointed.
He didn’t know what to say for a long while and finally spoke, "Well, I’m just here to see you."
With no one around, he gathered courage, "Actually, Dr. Lu, with your... looks, even in your current state, I believe there will still be many willing to care for you."
Lu Heng looked up at this moment, quietly watching Wang Kefu. He already had exceptional features, and now there was an indescribable charm in his gaze that had Wang Kefu totally captivated.
Lu Heng’s eyes turned even colder, yet the man lacked self-awareness, still fixating on Lu Heng.
Lu Heng wore a half-smile, "Why? Does President Wang have any good suggestions?"
Wang Kefu’s heart raced with excitement, and he boldly said, "If Dr. Lu doesn’t mind, you can come with me to Jiang City."
"You will take care of me?" Lu Heng laughed softly.
That laugh thrilled Wang Kefu, making his voice tremble with excitement, "If Dr. Lu doesn’t mind, that would be best. I may not have many strong points, but I am good at caring for people."
Lu Heng glanced at him, "Is that so?"
"Certainly." Wang Kefu felt elated, kneeling halfway in front of the bed, "Why not let me give it a try?"
Lu Heng lowered his eyelids, his frail and sickly demeanor appeared exceedingly beautiful. To Wang Kefu, he looked like a displaced young noble. His concern immediately turned into anticipation, causing Wang Kefu to involuntarily grasp Lu Heng’s hand...
Lu Heng looked down at those hands and gently withdrew them, then smiled faintly, "I might not be that easy to serve."
Wang Kefu immediately professed, "I will treat you like a brother, as long as Dr. Lu gives me a chance."
There was an unfathomable look in Lu Heng’s lowered eyes, but after a moment, he glanced towards a spot behind Wang Kefu, "But, you should ask my mother."
Wang Kefu suddenly felt confident, boastfully saying, "Don’t worry, I will persuade Auntie. I’m very skillful at caring for people."
Lu Heng merely smiled, but if you looked closely, there was an indescribable disdain for Wang Kefu in his eyes.
Wang Kefu felt increasingly proud, squatting intimately beside the bed. Despite his plump physique, he felt exceedingly handsome at the moment, speaking gently to Lu Heng, "In the future, you don’t have to go anywhere, just stay at my place. You’re so good-looking; the elders will definitely like you."
Lu Heng chuckled softly again.
Wang Kefu said dreamily, "We could study opera together; that’s what I call living."
Lu Heng countered, "I’m missing a leg, and you don’t mind?"
"With me caring for you." Wang Kefu assured, patting his chest.
At this moment, a sharp pain struck his scalp, and he found himself dragged several meters across the ground. When released, he felt as if a chunk of flesh had been ripped from his scalp. Turning around, he saw two men in black and a beautiful woman.
That woman was truly stunning, except for her age. Her features were carved from the same mold as Lu Heng’s.
Wang Kefu forgot his pain, immediately forcing a smile, "You must be Auntie. I’m a friend of Lu Heng. We were just chatting, with no ill intent."
Lu Xueman didn’t care for him. She had heard the fat pig’s words earlier. She never considered such lower-class individuals worthy of attention, so she coldly sneered, "My son can take care of himself. No need to trouble Mr. Wang."
She signaled for the two men in black to drag Wang Kefu out.
With just a glance, those two men understood. Not only were they to drive him out, but also to give him a thorough beating to vent their anger.
Wang Kefu was dragged away like a pig, wailing like a banshee, but his mouth was quickly covered, stifling his cries, resembling a pig awaiting slaughter.
Just as the door opened, they happened upon Wang Jingchuan, the secretary-general. Although Wang Jingchuan didn’t know Wang Kefu personally, he had heard of him and done his research, recognizing him as the infamous big brother-in-law from Anxi at a glance.
Secretary Wang chuckled, "Where are you taking him? This is no way for President Wang to conduct himself."
The two bodyguards, seeing the imposing presence of Secretary Wang, were momentarily dumbfounded and dared not act further.
Secretary Wang glanced around and then smiled, "Proceed with your tasks; pay me no mind."
Wang Kefu had been clinging to a shred of hope, feeling that this man, surely someone of status and integrity, would be fair. But his words were anything but righteous, and Wang Kefu whimpered again, but the two brawny men quickly dragged him far away.
Once they were gone, Secretary Wang dusted himself off and entered the hospital room.
Upon seeing him, Lu Heng’s expression tensed slightly. After all, they weren’t on the same path, and he didn’t know the other’s intentions in coming.
If Lu Heng didn’t know, Lu Xueman certainly wouldn’t either, so she just stared at her son.
Secretary Wang, aware of their suspicion, smiled slightly, "I’m from Mr. Wang’s side."
"I know you," Lu Heng replied.
Wang Jingchuan found a place to sit down, looking at Lu Heng and then at Lu Xueman, and only after a while did he say, "There’s some news. I don’t know whether it’s good news or bad for you."
Lu Xueman felt a jolt in her heart.
Lu Heng stared at Wang Jingchuan: "Is it Lu Ze?"
He had no feelings left for Lu Ze and called him by name.
Wang Jingchuan smiled, "Dr. Lu is indeed smart and perceptive."
He paused slightly before continuing, "Lu Ze committed suicide inside, and so did Jiang Bin."
After he finished speaking, the room fell into a deathly silence...
Lu Xueman’s body swayed slightly, barely holding onto the corner of the table.
While Lu Heng clenched his fist and after a moment asked softly, ’Are you sure... he’s gone?’
"Yes." Wang Jingchuan laughed faintly again, "Mr. Wang asked me to notify Dr. Lu that, if convenient or necessary, arrangements can be made for a final meeting."
Lu Heng looked at Lu Xueman.
Lu Xueman bit her lip and spoke softly, "The person is dead, seeing them wouldn’t matter."
She was heartbroken for her son, insisting on going by herself, but Lu Heng, like her, had more hatred than affection.
This last meeting, no matter what, he had to attend.
Two days later, Lu Heng and his mother saw Lu Ze for the last time. The scene was very cold, with only the two of them bidding farewell. As they came out, Lu Xueman was pushing Lu Heng, surrounded by about ten bodyguards in black, just about to get into the car.
Lu Heng whispered, "Wait a moment."
Lu Xueman looked over to see two women in front, each with a child, both boys.
Very good-looking, they seemed smart just by looking.
Both Lu Xueman and Lu Heng almost simultaneously understood that these were Lu Ze’s sons.
Seeing them made Lu Xueman’s teeth ache, and deepened her hatred towards Lu Ze. She, being the legitimate wife, naturally didn’t need to care about those women and children, so she whispered, "Lu Heng, let’s get in the car. You still have to go to the hospital for therapy later."
Lu Heng sat in the wheelchair, his legs covered by a blanket, but it was still apparent that one side was empty.
He calmly looked at the two women and children. He knew that they were just two of Lu Ze’s women and children, and there were more—some perhaps unwilling to come despite having received money, others possibly having no feelings.
However, the two women before him came and the children were very young, probably only about five or six years old.
The two kids stared at him with somewhat timid eyes.
Lu Heng softly said, "Mom, you get in the car first."
Lu Xueman was displeased, "Lu Heng... do you know who they are?"
"I know." Lu Heng responded very calmly, "But the person is dead, isn’t he?"
He raised his eyes and said softly, "Mom, you care most about the things that have already fallen into your hands, what more is there to mind?"
He had already grown up, while these kids had lost their father since they were a few years old. These women were probably supported by him for many years and lacked means of survival, coming here likely as their last hope.
After Lu Heng finished speaking, Lu Xueman felt somewhat embarrassed.
She admitted that Lu Ze’s death and all the inheritance landing with her and Lu Heng diluted the pain in her heart, but she still hated those women. She wasn’t willing to give a penny to those women and those... debt collectors.
She put on her sunglasses and said unhappily, "Lu Heng. Can you consider your mother’s feelings a bit?"
Lu Heng smiled faintly, then whispered, "We are already very lucky."
Lu Xueman was suddenly taken aback, then fell silent.
Yes, they were already very lucky. If Lu Ze hadn’t died, if Lu Ze had escaped, they... wouldn’t know what would happen.
Lu Heng let out a long breath and said again, "Mom, you get in the car first. I’ll talk to them."
Although Lu Xueman was unwilling, she had always depended on men and lacked much independence; without her husband, she naturally had to rely on her son. Since Lu Heng insisted, she got into the car first, leaving two people to take care of him.
From a distance, those two young women came over with the children, really very young, about the same age as Lu Heng, and the children were even smaller.
Lu Heng raised his eyes and looked at them, and asked very softly and gently, "Do you want to see him?"
The two women seemed flattered, hesitated for a long time but finally nodded.
At that moment, Lu Heng noticed that they looked very similar and thought they were probably sisters.
He sighed in his heart, then gave a few instructions to a bodyguard beside him, and said, "I’ll wait for you here."
The two women became a little excited, glanced at Lu Heng, and then hurried away with the children.
Lu Heng sat in the wheelchair, waiting quietly...
The sunlight after the snow shone on him, and he wore a black coat, making him look dazzlingly white...
