Chapter 1140 - 1219: Don’t I Cherish You Too?
In no time, the lunar New Year’s Eve arrived.
The Bo Family gathered here to celebrate, lively and bustling. The elder Bo was brought in by a designated driver, and the old man was quite sulky, immediately hugging Anxi upon arrival: "What took so long to bring me here?"
Gu Anxi found it amusing and spent a while coaxing him like a child before the elder Bo finally brought out the New Year’s gift he’d prepared for a long time—a very small box. Inside was a tiny white jade bottle, exquisitely crafted.
Bo Nianyao, watching from the side, eyed it enviously: "This is old man’s long-cherished treasure. I’ve asked for it many times, but he never let me have it."
Gu Anxi naturally liked it too; she had seen it in a collection before and had told the elder Bo she must have it. Back then, the elder Bo’s expression was quite nuanced—never expected it to end up with her.
Now, Gu Anxi didn’t argue or hold back; she accepted it with a smile.
Bo Nianyao was incredibly envious.
The elder Bo looked at his son: "If you were capable, you could continue the Bo family line. Don’t be jealous of Anxi."
"I wouldn’t dare be jealous of her." Nianyao’s father sighed: "In this house, there’s hardly any place for me anymore."
The elder chuckled, slightly annoyed: "I’ve brought something for you too."
After speaking, he instructed the accompanying folks to bring out a box for Bo Nianyao. Upon opening it, Bo Nianyao couldn’t let go and admired it for a while before asking, "Old man, have you pulled out all your hidden treasures?"
The elder Bo snorted lightly: "Keeping them won’t help; better to hand them over. I know well you’ve had eyes on your old man’s treasures for quite some time."
Bo Nianyao playfully replied: "Father, what are you saying? If you didn’t agree, how could I dare covet your precious items?"
The elder Bo shot him a glance before sitting down; the family sat together neatly, ready to dig in. "Why hasn’t anyone started eating?"
Mrs. Bo smiled broadly: "Mingzhu and Qin Siyuan will come over for dinner shortly."
She jested: "Old man, do you have a gift prepared?"
The elder Bo’s eyes widened: "Are you all set on my treasures?"
He complained and grumbled but still took out a long string of pearl necklaces, handing them to his daughter-in-law: "They were meant for you, but since the young lady is coming, give them to her first. I’ll make it up to you in Beicheng later."
He spoke calmly, yet Lin Yun was somewhat touched.
She had been married to Bo Nianyao for thirty years, yet as an elder, no one’s ever prepared her a gift for the next day. Although she consciously brushed it off, deep down she felt disappointed. She had been a wife, a mother, and a sister-in-law, organizing the household meticulously without acknowledgment... but now, this elder finally recognized a New Year’s gift for her. Even a strong woman like Lin Yun felt bittersweet but managed to quickly mask it...
Her voice hoarse: "Giving to the kids is fine; I’ve passed that age."
The elder Bo pouted: "You’re getting older, but you’re still Nianyao’s treasure. I, as a father, can’t just spoil Anxi while neglecting you."
Lin Yun became even more moved, yet, thankfully, Qin Siyuan with Gu Mingzhu arrived just then. Since Qin Siling was staying in Beicheng for New Year’s and had no relatives in Qingcheng, Anxi suggested Gu Mingzhu come over, so they came directly.
As soon as they arrived, a long string of South Sea Pearls was hung around her neck, appearing heavy and quite valuable.
Mrs. Bo tidied it for her, whispering: "Very fitting, just like your name."
Gu Mingzhu was a bit taken aback, Mrs. Bo laughed: "Why’s the child so surprised? This was specially brought from Beicheng as a gift from the elder Bo for you."
At this moment, Qin Siyuan took a box and handed it to Mrs. Bo, smiling slightly: "By coincidence, Mingzhu picked a gift for you that also matches."
Mrs. Bo was somewhat surprised, opened it to find it was another splendid string of pearls, instantly liking them immensely, wearing them around her neck without wanting to take them off.
The elder Bo leaned closer to his son, speaking quietly: "See that? Just a moment ago, she looked all poised and generous, but the truth is, she’s really keen on them. However, she pretends to be magnanimous... Nianyao, your wife is perfect apart from this—feigning generosity!"
Bo Nianyao laughed: "Lin Yun likes pearls, something I barely knew. Father observes her closely with love."
Suddenly, the elder Bo felt restless—
What are you talking about?
What do you mean, love, what do you mean, observing carefully...
Bo Nianyao didn’t continue joking with his father but arranged for the younger generation to sit down, raised a glass: "Tomorrow is New Year’s; it’s time for us family to get lively..."
