Chapter 1269: You Can Have Another Woman Bear Your Child
After Gu Anxi finished speaking, Chu Ci turned his head to look at her.
Gu Anxi patted his shoulder gently and said, "It’s been so long, you should start a new life. You have a child now, don’t torment yourself anymore. Yan Yan has her own husband and child; she won’t feel sorry for you."
Chu Ci’s whole body tensed up.
Gu Anxi sighed lightly, "I’ve said what I needed to say. In fact, I don’t want to get involved in your marital issues since I’m not familiar with Zhao Mo Ran. It’s just that Yan Yan said she’s a good woman, so I’m saying the things Yan Yan couldn’t. Chu Ci, Yan Yan let go a long time ago."
Chu Ci stared at her for a long time before saying in a hoarse voice, "We’ll talk about it later."
Now, Zhao Mo Ran is giving birth to his child.
Gu Anxi replied, "Okay, once the child is born, take good care of her."
Chu Ci instinctively reached for his pocket, wanting to smoke a cigarette but later gave up... Just then, a thunderous cry came from the delivery room, making Chu Ci’s heart tighten.
Gu Anxi tilted her chin up, "The baby is born. You should go in and take a look. Even if she doesn’t want to see you, at least acknowledge your mistakes and say something soft. We’ll talk about the future when the time comes."
From her understanding of Zhao Mo Ran, she would definitely want to leave Chu Ci or live a miserable life afterwards, but she didn’t know what Chu Ci was thinking now.
After Gu Anxi finished speaking, she looked at Bo Xichen, "Uncle, shall we go back first? There shouldn’t be any more issues."
Bo Xichen nodded slightly, wrapped his arm around her shoulder and led her away, while Chu Ci turned to look at the delivery room door. At that moment, Chu Changhe and Mrs. Chu arrived. As soon as he arrived, Chu Changhe rubbed his hands and said, "Why was it early? Wasn’t everything fine?"
Mrs. Chu also expressed some unease, "Yes, how was Mo Ran taking care of herself? I told her to stay at the mansion to nurture her pregnancy but, Chu Ci, you insisted she wouldn’t be used to it. Now look what happened; your wife took care of herself to this point."
The words were harsh, and Chu Changhe couldn’t take it anymore, so he said to his wife, "Say less, will you?"
Chu Ci, however, said softly, "It was the photos sent by the woman outside that caused the premature birth; it wasn’t Mo Ran’s fault."
Mrs. Chu was taken aback, then looked at her son, "What... photos?"
Chu Changhe immediately understood and, pointing at Chu Ci, said angrily, "You really are something."
He was a man himself, and after a careful look, he figured his son had probably been fooling around tonight and just rushed over here!
He was fuming, "Chu Ci, that’s outrageous!"
Chu Ci rubbed his nose, "What’s done is done... The child is already born."
"What’s the point of being born? How uncomfortable must your wife feel about this matter?" After scolding his son in distress, Chu Changhe thought it over and decided it was best to focus on Mo Ran’s feelings for now, so he fell silent.
Mrs. Chu saw her husband reprimanding their son so harshly and felt sorry for him, so she said, "Chu Ci didn’t intend for it to happen, who knew that woman would act like this."
Chu Changhe sneered, "So according to you, if I find a woman outside and don’t let it reach you, you wouldn’t mind acting like you don’t know, so I wouldn’t be wrong, is that it?"
Mrs. Chu was speechless and after a long pause said, "How could that be the same?"
What she didn’t voice was her noble status and that she was married into the Chu family, but what did Mo Ran count for... But she didn’t say it to avoid upsetting her son.
The couple felt uncomfortable, and Chu Ci furrowed his brows even tighter, staring in the direction of the delivery room. Finally, Director Sun came out, took off her mask and breathed a sigh of relief, "Mother and daughter are safe."
Upon hearing it was a daughter, Chu Ci smiled slightly, while Mrs. Chu felt somewhat disappointed; "A daughter, huh."
Chu Changhe looked at her, "A daughter is just as good; do you still have such outdated beliefs?"
Mrs. Chu was dissatisfied, but didn’t say anything further.
Chu Ci spoke a few words with Director Sun before entering the delivery room. As soon as he entered, he caught the scent of postpartum blood. Though not overwhelming, it was impossible to ignore; this was all Zhao Mo Ran’s blood, for giving birth to his child.
She lay on the clean bed, still very weak, her hair drenched in sweat as if she had just been pulled from water. This was the first time a woman had given birth to his child, and Chu Ci felt something subtle in his heart. He walked over, sat by her bedside, and instead of looking at the child first, gently touched her face, "Does it still hurt?"
She had her eyes closed and only shook her head slightly.
The nurse was tidying things up nearby, while saying, "How could it not hurt? Giving birth isn’t that easy and effortless; do you think it’s just like going to the bathroom?"
Director Sun happened to walk in, laughingly scolding, "Mind your words."
The nurse muttered quietly, "Nearly got into trouble, and I can’t talk about it? Men’s wives give birth and they act totally indifferent."
Apparently, the whole delivery room knew about Chu Ci’s scandal, and upon hearing this, Mrs. Chu’s face darkened immediately.
Chu Ci paused and didn’t refute anything; instead, he continued to stroke Zhao Mo Ran’s face. "Get some rest. I’ll check on the child; it’s a daughter."
He was gentle, but she didn’t need that kind of gentleness right now. Zhao Mo Ran kept her eyes closed and gave a slight nod. She didn’t ignore him, but her attitude couldn’t be called good. Chu Ci watched her for a long time, pressing his thin lips tighter.
Following that, a small, wrinkled little creature was brought before him. He stared at it blankly and asked the nurse absentmindedly, "Is this my child?"
Where was the imagined soft, fair skin? Where was the ideal long, straight black hair? It was entirely wrinkled, with slightly yellow, curly hair, a little curl of fluff that didn’t look much like a child of his and Zhao Mo Ran’s.
It’s important to note that Zhao Mo Ran’s appearance is strikingly attractive.
His words made the nurse even more displeased, "If it’s not your child, whose child would it be? It hasn’t left the delivery room yet."
She risked saying another sentence, "I think Miss Zhao’s child looks good. Some women outside wouldn’t be able to give birth to such a beautiful child."
Dr. Sun coughed lightly: "Say no more."
Haha, the child is good, but beautiful... really not at the moment. Right now, it’s a bit wrinkled, but with genes like its parents, it will grow into beauty in a month or two. Though, this hair will likely remain curly...
After Dr. Sun’s words, the nurse dared not say anything further. She tidied things up, helped Zhao Mo Ran arrange her quilt gently, and said softly, "Miss Zhao, I’ll take you to the postpartum center now. The child will be right beside you. Get some sleep, and we’ll feed later."
Zhao Mo Ran was utterly exhausted. She nodded slightly and fell asleep.
It wasn’t until the middle of the night that she woke up.
The warm yellow light spread softly, filling the space. The scent of milk filled her nostrils. She turned her head and saw a small, wrinkled bun-like creature. It was a bit ugly, but in her eyes quite adorable. She reached out to gently touch the child’s hair and smiled silently.
Right then, Chu Ci’s voice sounded beside her, "Awake? Have something to eat."
She trembled slightly, looked up, and saw Chu Ci standing by the bed.
He was still in the thin wool suit from the daytime, looking handsome and without a trace of exhaustion from the night. He was exceptionally good-looking—naturally with advantageous looks and distinguished status, that’s why there were so many women flocking after him... But at this moment, she found looking at him felt unfamiliar. She could accept a loveless marriage, but she couldn’t accept that he was messing around outside while she was having their child, plus those photos...
She lowered her eyes, "I’m not hungry."
"How can you not be hungry? Mrs. Li said you didn’t eat tonight, and you’ve just given birth," Chu Ci said then sat by the bed, holding a bowl of nourishing soup, "Drink a little."
The bedhead was raised a bit, and she sat up slightly. Her body was still in pain but bearable. She didn’t want to argue with him, so she had some food. After finishing, she lost interest in him and just turned her head to look at her daughter.
The overflowing maternal love in her eyes made Chu Ci somewhat uncomfortable as he said, "Is she that pretty? I see yellow and skinny, wrinkled still, and curly-haired."
Zhao Mo Ran said softly, "If you don’t like her, you can pretend she doesn’t exist. I can keep her by myself."
She looked up, remained silent for a while, and said earnestly, "If you think I can’t produce your ideal child, you can find someone else."
Chu Ci’s body shuddered.
She spoke again, "I know you have always wanted a certain kind of daughter, but I might disappoint you... It’s my family’s hereditary trait; we all had curly hair as children. It only becomes straight at eighteen or nineteen."
He wanted a daughter like Yan Yan, but that was nearly impossible. Waiting eighteen or nineteen years, he might as well find several women to give birth until he gets what he wants...
Chu Ci squinted his eyes, his voice cold, "You’re suggesting I go find women outside to give birth?"
Zhao Mo Ran thought for a while before continuing, "Legally, you can."
After she finished speaking, Chu Ci glared at her.
Her meaning was very obvious, or rather, she changed the way she said it, she wanted a divorce. But she had put it in a nice way, showing concern for him, seems his wife wasn’t that naive and innocent, or perhaps she had been wanting to say this for a while.
Chu Ci placed the object in his hand aside. Then his long and handsome fingers touched her face, smiling gently, "Earlier, the nurse called you Miss Zhao, not Mrs. Chu. You were probably happy to hear that, so why are you so unfriendly towards me now? Is it because of the photos at night?"
She stayed silent, wanting to close her eyes, but in the next second, his fingers applied slight pressure, "Don’t play dumb, Zhao Mo Ran. I’ll say it only once; I didn’t intend it tonight, just mistakenly drank a tampered glass of wine. I’m not that depraved to be so excited the night before you give birth."
She stubbornly looked at him, mist showing in her eyes.
He said again, "I’ve deleted the photos, and this matter won’t be mentioned again. That woman won’t appear before you anymore."
Zhao Mo Ran’s lips moved slightly, "You could marry her; she’s pure and looks like Yan Yan. Maybe by now, she’s already pregnant with your child."
Chu Ci roared angrily, "Zhao Mo Ran, do you truly think I don’t dare touch you?"
