Chapter 1186: Gu Anxi’s Male Mom
King Jingyao’s hand paused for a moment, but he didn’t immediately use a tissue to wipe away the blood, just quietly looked at himself in the mirror.
Only when that bead of blood slowly clotted did he wipe it away, then straightened himself in the mirror and went downstairs.
He was sure Lin Hua would be downstairs having breakfast. After they got married, except for those days when she had just given birth to Little Wang Yue, no matter how early it was she would always keep him company for breakfast.
But when he walked downstairs, the place was empty, only two servants were setting the table.
He slowly walked down, tugged at his tie and sat down: "Where’s Madam?"
The servant froze for a second, then said, "Madam went out early this morning, said she had an important appointment."
"Is it really that important?" After King Jingyao finished speaking, he opened the newspaper and quietly read; he only took a few bites of breakfast before going to the office.
His mood was especially gloomy that day, he didn’t even feel like eating lunch. It was only after the secretary-general persuaded him for a long time that he reluctantly ate a little.
In the afternoon, Gu Anxi came over, making this trip on behalf of Bo Xichen.
The old brother finally perked up a little when he saw his younger sister, but he still looked listless.
Gu Anxi put the documents on his desk, then sat sideways on the edge of it: "What’s wrong, Sister Lin Hua still not talking to you?"
King Jingyao leaned back in his chair, looking a bit fragile and sickly, gave his sister a reproachful glance, then gave a soft snort: "How is that possible? Your old brother, I..."
Just then, Wang Jingchuan came in, still holding a cup: "Here’s your ginseng tea."
Old Wang Brother was furious and shot him a vicious glare.
Wang Jingchuan also felt really something or other; not knowing what was going on he already felt wronged. These days, with his boss and Madam not getting along, he’d already been walking on eggshells.
Gu Anxi chuckled: "Look at Jingchuan, he’s already got it hard enough. You two having a marital spat ends up dragging him into the middle, making it seem like he’s part of your family too."
King Jingyao leaned back in the chair to smoke, and slanted her a look: "You little brat, don’t think I don’t know what you’re saying! No sense of respect at all. Jingchuan’s old enough to almost be your father, and you still dare make fun of him."
Gu Anxi shamelessly said, "Male mom."
Wang Jingchuan pulled a bitter face: "Just stop making fun of me."
He deliberately covered his face, and at least managed to coax a smile out of King Jingyao.
"That’s more like it. What’s such a big deal anyway, that you’ve got to look so glum all day long?" Gu Anxi swung her legs: "You’ve got a wife, a kid and a warm bed, you call the shots everywhere, and still you’re not satisfied."
"Why don’t you come and try it?" King Jingyao snorted lightly; "I’m afraid you wouldn’t last two days sitting here."
At that, Gu Anxi looked at him without speaking, and King Jingyao, dissatisfied, shot back, "What now, I’ve offended you again?"
Gu Anxi smiled: "No, what I mean is, isn’t contributing one Zhou Yunchen enough from my side? Old brother also wants me to sit here?"
King Jingyao let out a low laugh: "See, just now you were still envying me, now it’s like this seat’s burning hot."
Gu Anxi looked at him, her smile tinged with bitterness, and leaned forward a bit: "I’m telling you, even if the sky falls it won’t be the end of the world. Why do you have to take everything on yourself?"
King Jingyao glanced at her but didn’t say anything, just quietly finished his cigarette. Gu Anxi didn’t disturb him, because she could tell that his mood was really bad, and this kind of bad mood was something he wasn’t willing to talk about.
Based on how well she knew him, it was probably because of Sister Lin Hua.
Gu Anxi hopped down from the desk, and that was when he finally spoke: "Why’d you have to run off just when things were fine?"
He pointed at the sofa: "Come keep me company and talk."
Gu Anxi smiled, took a look at Wang Jingchuan: "Could you get me a hot coffee, please, male mom."
Wang Jingchuan was mortified and furious.
Old Wang Brother slanted her a look, then turned to Wang Jingchuan and instructed, "Have someone make her a milk tea."
Then he added, "She just had a baby barely over a month ago, what’s she doing drinking coffee!"
Wang Jingchuan was actually quite grateful; with Anxi around, Mr. Wang’s mood really did seem a bit better.
After Wang Jingchuan left, Gu Anxi finally asked, "What’s going on with Sister Lin Hua?"
"Nothing much, just some minor squabbles between husband and wife, nothing serious." The old brother had his pride.
How could Gu Anxi not guess that it wasn’t so minor; she didn’t call him out, just smiled faintly and said, "I’ve said it before, you take your responsibility too seriously. A lot of things, ten years from now when you’re no longer sitting here, you don’t need to dwell on them. Even if the sky really falls by then, there’s still Zhou Yunchen. Whatever happens then will be his responsibility."
King Jingyao hadn’t expected her to speak up for him, and was instantly overjoyed.
Gu Anxi gave a soft laugh: "I’m not really taking your side, I’m just stating the facts. You’re carrying too heavy a load... I know the mission the Wang Family shoulders, but it’s really time to take a break. You work yourself like this, and you still want Little Wang Yue to end up like you in the future? Don’t you feel any pain for your son?"
"How could I not?" King Jingyao leaned against the sofa, eyes closed: "Over this, your sister-in-law’s furious with me. She’s refusing to let our son get involved, and insists on returning to the music scene to chase her independence. She just doesn’t take me, her husband, to heart anymore and is making trouble with me on purpose."
Gu Anxi was speechless: "You told her that Xiao Yue will have to walk the same old path as you in the future?"
King Jingyao patted his trouser leg, "This is something I discussed with Zhou Yunchen. We’ve got to have a fallback plan. It’s not that I’m clinging to all this; it’s just that in the future we’ll need someone reliable."
At this moment, he looked at Gu Anxi and suddenly said, "I think Bo Xin’s pretty good. How about... giving it a try?"
"He’s so little, I can’t bear to," Gu Anxi said without even thinking, "Sister Lin Hua definitely can’t bear it either. You sit down and think it through—what matters more, responsibility or your wife?"
She put herself in his shoes: "If you insist, maybe she really won’t do anything about it, but you’ll just drift further and further apart like now. Your wife is someone you went through so much to finally marry. You’ve known each other for so many years and she waited for you for so many years. Are you really going to ruin your relationship for some vague, blurry future?"
Wang Jingyao sighed: "Anxi, I know everything you’re saying, but you’re not in my position, you just can’t feel what I’m feeling. It’s not like I don’t want to go along with her, to indulge her in everything. I know she really loves kids and wants to be with them all the time."
"That doesn’t conflict," Gu Anxi said softly. "You don’t trust her? Don’t trust that she can raise someone like you?"
Wang Jingyao looked at her, then suddenly started laughing.
He reached out and patted Gu Anxi’s shoulder. "Alright, my little sister really does have great wisdom."
As he spoke, he stood up and rubbed his stomach. "I’m getting a bit hungry. Since you’re here, don’t go back. In a bit call Xichen over, we’ll have dinner together."
"Call Sister Lin Hua too. If I call her, she’ll definitely come," Gu Anxi picked up her phone. "Let’s have fish."
Wang Jingyao was really looking forward to it, but his expression stayed composed. "Whatever, your sister-in-law and I don’t lack this one meal."
"But today this one meal is exactly what you’re lacking," Gu Anxi said with a squinty-eyed smile. "Let’s also call Chen Ming and Beauty Song Jia. You can soak up some of their good luck."
When Wang Jingyao heard that, he was speechless. "Chen Ming still has the strength to come out and eat?"
That little brat’s bottle of essential oil probably almost cost Chen Ming half his life!
Gu Anxi scratched her hair. "Are you looking down on Chen Ming?"
As she spoke, her little feet were tucked up on the sofa. Wang Jingyao slapped her lightly. "This sofa set cost over a million."
"I’m texting Sister Lin Hua. This way I’ll have better inspiration and better wording." Her skin was thick, and her big brother had no way to deal with her, letting her trample all over his million-yuan sofa.
But though he looked like he wasn’t watching, he’d actually been sneaking glances the whole time.
After Gu Anxi finished sending the message, "Alright. Now we wait for her reply."
Then she called her Little Uncle Bo, speaking to him in a soft, cutesy voice about dinner that evening, asking if he had time. Little Uncle Bo originally didn’t, and said she should just eat with her big brother.
Gu Anxi said mushily, "Big Brother and Sister Lin Hua are fighting. Come over, okay? When you talk, Sister Lin Hua will at least listen a bit. It’s not like me—once I open my mouth she thinks I’m taking Big Brother’s side, sometimes she ignores me."
Bo Xichen chuckled. "It’s that bad?"
Then he agreed.
Gu Anxi hung up, muttering to herself, "Little Uncle is so nice."
Off to the side, Wang Jingyao was about to cough up blood listening to this.
This little brat, is she trying to piss him to death? But seeing how hard she was working on his behalf, he still forgave her. He even generously praised a few words: "Xichen really dotes on you. He’s so busy but still comes as soon as you call."
Gu Anxi smiled squintily again. "Nope. He dotes on you, Big Brother. He knows you’re anxious to death."
Wang Jingyao’s smile froze on his face.
This little brat was still a little brat, not one bit changed.
He snorted lightly, and after that had no mood to work, so he had Wang Jingchuan make him a cup of hot coffee. But Gu Anxi switched it out for hot milk tea. "Watch your health."
Big Brother’s heart felt all warm and fuzzy...
After a bit, Lin Hua’s reply came. Seemed like Gu Anxi’s face really was big enough; she agreed and set a time.
Big Brother Wang smiled like a blooming flower. "Drink the milk tea, drink the milk tea, the new master barista’s got amazing skills, award-winning at the international level."
Gu Anxi held the milk tea in both hands and took small sips.
She was usually quite tall—over 170—but she was so thin, and right now she was sitting cross-legged, hugging a milk tea, that she looked especially tiny. Big Brother Wang watched and watched, then sighed, "If our Little Wang Yue were a bit older, maybe he could marry you as his wife. Then you’d be calling me Dad."
Gu Anxi sprayed a mouthful of milk tea right onto his face.
Wang Jingchuan started coughing violently too.
Was Mr. Wang arguing with his wife so badly his brain got scrambled?
But Wang Jingyao himself didn’t feel anything wrong, and continued with a sigh, "Bo An An is great too. She’s all fair and chubby, really adorable. If your sister-in-law could have a little girl like that, her mood would probably be much better every day."
After listening for a while, Gu Anxi finally got it.
So this was him drooling over their little girl, huh?
She snorted lightly. "If you want a daughter, figure out how to make one yourself."
Hearing that, a light bulb went on in Wang Jingyao’s head.
Right, they could have another one. If Lin Hua had a second child, best if it’s a girl they can dote on, and there’d be no pressure about "cultivating" her. Wouldn’t that be the best of both worlds?
