Chapter 1179: Little Uncle Is Back 2
Gu Anxi jumped in fright and immediately turned her head, staring up at him pitifully, then said in a soft voice, "I’m getting Chen Ming and the others’ wedding present ready."
Bo Xichen reached out to take it, turned it over in his hands for quite a while, and asked, "What’s inside?"
Gu Anxi didn’t dare say what it was. Instead, she flipped around and jumped onto him. "Little Uncle, how come you suddenly came back?"
He supported her with one hand, then lowered his voice and said, "To give you a surprise."
She let out a little yelp, rested her cheek in the hollow of his neck, and felt that spot was so, so warm.
The weather was a bit chilly today, and she had always been afraid of the cold. Him coming back at this moment couldn’t be better...
"You’re not leaving?" She tilted her head up to ask him.
Bo Xichen smiled. "Right, I’m not leaving."
She grinned foolishly again, looped her arms around his neck, and only after a long while murmured, "Have you gone to see the babies? They’ve gotten so much bigger again."
He lowered his head to look at her, pressing her into the sofa, his forehead against hers as he rasped, "I haven’t had time to go see them yet."
She made a small sound of acknowledgment, and for some reason her face flushed.
Bo Xichen chuckled softly again, his fingers lightly pinching her cheek. "Want to go take a look together now?"
She pushed at his shoulder. "But you have to get up first."
Bo Xichen didn’t move, his gaze resting on her with a faint depth.
Even thick-skinned as she was, Gu Anxi started to feel a bit embarrassed. Her small hand braced against his shoulder. "Aren’t we going to see the kids?"
Bo Xichen lowered his head and blocked all her words with a kiss...
She tightened her little fingers, looking at him so pitifully.
Was this really necessary...
Fortunately, Little Uncle Bo still had some sense. He let her go quickly, helped straighten her clothes, and they walked together to the nursery.
Mrs. Bo was taking care of the two little babies. Even though she saw her son had come back, she only lifted her eyes briefly.
Bo Xichen touched his nose and silently glanced at his little wife.
Gu Anxi held back a laugh, gave a little yelp, and hugged him from behind.
Bo Xichen held her hands and spoke softly with his mother as they talked. In the end, with her lying on his back, Gu Anxi yawned and mumbled, "Bo Daddy’s back and you still won’t let Bo Mommy go over."
Bo Xichen, both annoyed and amused, patted her hand. "You think everyone’s as clingy as you?"
When he said that, Gu Anxi gave him a rather peculiar look—
Obviously he was the clingy one, yet he was pinning it on her. Still, in front of Bo Mom she would give him a bit of face, so she just shot him a sidelong glance without saying anything.
How could Mrs. Bo not see through them? On the one hand she was thinking of Bo Nianyao, and on the other she knew her son missed the little ones a lot. So she tactfully left first.
That left only the young couple who were now parents. Bo Xichen picked up Bo An An and kissed her, then asked the little girl very gently, "Did you miss Daddy?"
Little Bo An An couldn’t understand a word; she only knew how to squeal and giggle, smiling so adorably.
Bo Xichen watched her for a long time before saying to Gu Anxi, "Her temperament is a lot like yours."
Gu Anxi came to his side, wrapped an arm around his waist, and said softly, "She’s still so little, how can you tell?"
Bo Xichen put Bo An An down, then gently lifted his little wife up and set her on the back of the nearby sofa to kiss her. She was a bit shy... her small hands clutching his shirt.
After quite a while, it was Bo Xichen who finally laughed, patting her lightly and lowering his head to coax her a few words. "I’ll go take a shower first."
Gu Anxi’s little face was flushed crimson as she said pitifully, "Hey, that’s not what I meant."
He flicked her little forehead lightly. "Then what did you think I meant?"
She stammered and refused to say.
Bo Xichen chuckled softly again, leaning close to her ear. "We’ll eat first in a bit."
He pinched her cheek again. He’d thought that now that she was a young mom she’d become a bit steadier, that there was finally a bit of that old-married-couple feeling. But now he realized she was still the same little girl as before.
His heart felt indescribably full. After taking a quick shower and changing clothes, he came out toweling his hair and asked her, "Has anything been going on at home lately?"
Gu Anxi was sitting on the sofa writing, her face still a bit warm. She said softly, "No, nothing’s going on. If there was, I would’ve told you."
He sat beside her, pulled her into his arms, and closed his eyes to rest. "Then have you missed me?"
Gu Anxi’s face heated up again, and she placed her hand flat over his chest, her voice small. "Yeah."
He lowered his head to look at her.
She lay down against him, her voice even softer. "Little Uncle, you’re not leaving anymore?"
He grunted in acknowledgment. "I’m not leaving. I’m staying."
She bit her lip, nestled her small body closer to him, then simply wrapped her arms around his neck.
He knew why she was like this. During her late pregnancy he had been at his busiest; at most he could see her two or three days a month. She was still so young and would feel lonely.
He kissed her hair and added, "I won’t leave again."
"Take me with you next time," she murmured.
He laughed, picked her up, and cradled her in his arms like a child. She felt a bit embarrassed... but Professor Bo held her properly and started lecturing her as if she were a little kid...
Things were different now. No matter how long it had been since they’d seen each other, as a young couple who were now parents, they had to keep the kids in mind.
At the very least, Bo Xichen could now understand his father’s restraint and propriety. He figured he was probably a rather old-fashioned man. The difference between him and Bo Nianyao was that he was much luckier. He still had elders above him managing things, and the company had Anxi helping out. Back in Bo Nianyao’s day, he only had himself. Not only was he running around handling everything, he also had a little tagalong to take care of...
Late that night, feeling stirred inside, Bo Xichen couldn’t fall asleep. After checking on the two kids, he went outside for a smoke.
When he finished his cigarette, he couldn’t help feeling a bit empty again, so he went to his father’s study.
Bo Nianyao hadn’t gone to bed yet and was in the study doing calligraphy.
When he looked up and saw his son coming in, he smiled. "You’ve been away so long. Why aren’t you keeping Anxi company?"
"She’s already asleep." Bo Xichen was wearing a white shirt and black trousers, his shirt untucked, which made him look a bit casual. He was even, unusually, holding a cigarette between his lips as he walked into the study and sat down on the sofa.
Bo Nianyao looked at his son and smiled. "Look at you now—you really have the air of the head of the household. You’re a father now, after all."
Bo Xichen smiled faintly. "I haven’t been back to stay for a long time. It feels a bit strange all of a sudden."
Bo Nianyao lowered his head to continue writing, speaking calmly. "It’s good for you to be outside like that. You don’t need to be as constrained as before anymore. People who know you understand you’re just being proper; those who don’t might think I’m abusing my son... You’re a father yourself now, anyway."
Bo Xichen smiled lightly again. "A bit more propriety isn’t necessarily a bad thing."
Bo Nianyao glanced at him. "So you’re planning on showing off your fatherly authority in front of your son someday?"
At that, Bo Xichen imagined it for a moment, then shook his head. "I don’t think so."
