Chapter 65: Dying Love-2
Everything about her looked completely out of place among the beautifully dressed guests.
Then her eyes met Pei Yunji’s. For a brief moment, Meng Zhi hoped her best friend would rush over and hug her.
She would softly say,
’Meng Zhi, you’ve suffered enough.’
But Pei Yunji merely stared at her. And in that silence, Meng Zhi finally understood.
Pei Yunji looked completely different from the girl Meng Zhi remembered.
She was dressed in an exquisite white wedding gown, the delicate fabric trailing behind her like snow. A beautiful crown rested on her blonde hair, making her look like a princess from a fairy tale.
For a moment, Meng Zhi simply stared. Then she hurriedly walked toward her. "Pei Yunji... tell me."
She grabbed Pei Yunji’s hand. "Tell them why you’re marrying Zhuan Yun."
She didn’t say my love aloud. She couldn’t afford to. People would mock her and even laugh at hr audacity.
Zhuan Yun had been the only person she had desperately clung to. He was her fiancé.
The one person she believed wouldn’t abandon her.
Even when everyone else called her a monster, she had secretly comforted herself with the thought that at least Zhuan Yun was still hers.
But... she had been wrong.
Pei Yunji looked at her hand before slowly leaning closer. A smile appeared on her lips.
"Honestly, I never thought you would become this pathetic, Meng Zhi."
Meng Zhi froze. Pei Yunji whispered into her ear, her voice filled with amusement. "You should have understood it by now."
Her smile widened. "I pretended to be your friend because I wanted to use you from the beginning."
Meng Zhi’s pupils contracted.
"All those accidents you thought were caused by your misfortune..."
Pei Yunji chuckled. "They weren’t. I planned them."
"What...?"
"I pushed the books off the shelf. I loosened the railing. I even arranged for that car to appear on the road that day."
Pei Yunji’s voice remained soft. "Do you know why?"
She pulled away slightly and looked directly into Meng Zhi’s eyes. "Because I’m ordinary."
Her fingers lightly touched her blonde hair. "I’m not particularly talented. I’m not particularly beautiful either."
She smiled. "But by becoming your friend, I could show everyone how kind I was."
Her eyes gleamed with satisfaction. "And while everyone pitied me for being friends with a cursed girl, I gained their sympathy."
Meng Zhi’s lips parted; cold seemed to have rushed inside her body, and her mind started to spin. Pei Yunji continued
"Most importantly..."
Her gaze shifted toward Zhuan Yun. "I gained the attention of your perfect and rich fiancé."
Meng Zhi’s face went completely pale.
"I only needed to stay beside you long enough for him to realise that I’m much better than you. And look."
She glanced at the wedding decorations. "I succeeded."
Meng Zhi stared at her. For the first time, she understood how much the sting of betrayal and hatred could hurt. To get justice for her past self and release the pent-up frustration, she raised her hand and...
Smack! The slap echoed throughout the wedding hall. Pei Yunji’s face snapped to the side.
The entire venue fell silent. Meng Zhi didn’t stop there.
She lunged forward, grabbing Pei Yunji’s gown. "You ruined my life! You made me and others think I was a monster! You are the real monster!"
Pei Yunji stumbled backward. Before Meng Zhi could reach her again...
Bang! A powerful kick struck Meng Zhi directly in the stomach. Her body flew backward, and she crashed onto the cold floor.
Pain exploded through her abdomen. Meng Zhi coughed violently, curling up as she struggled to breathe. She slowly looked up and saw Zhuan Yun standing between her and Pei Yunji.
The man she had spent years believing would protect her. The man she had secretly considered her last hope. He looked down at her with disgust.
"How dare you attack Yunji?"
Meng Zhi stared at him in disbelief. Her lips trembled. "Zhuan Yun..."
He didn’t even hesitate. "You should have stayed with that old man. A monster and freak! Perfect pair!"
"No... no! You are misunderstanding! She arranged everything. Remember all the misfortune she suffered; she had planned it!" Meng Zhi shouted. She desperately looked around, hoping someone would believe her.
"I was never a Jinx! The fortune teller had told me that I would bring calamity upon humanity, not bad luck!" She quickly pointed out the flaw.
But the next second, Pei Yunji sobbed and said in a choked-up voice, "Sister Meng, if you want to free yourself from your destiny, just do it, but please don’t sully my name!"
The nearby people started to whisper.
"No! No! Believe me! Please!" Meng Zhi cried, but when she saw no one was believing her and some were even consoling Pei Yunji, she cursed.
"Fuck you all! I wish I would indeed become a calamity and come for your lives!" She sobbed as all the brutality she had suffered under that old man, school bullies, and her father started to rush into her mind.
"Zhuan Yun, kick her out! She seems unstable and might harm our Yunji." One of the guests suggested.
Zhuan Yun’s dark expression became darker, and he nodded.
The next second, Meng Zhi was thrown out of the wedding venue. Worst, someone had even informed her husband.
Scared and anxious, she called her father using the last bit of change from a landline nearby. However, once she explained to him, she only heard his cold words.
"Let it go. Live your life peacefully with the old man now. Remember what I told you? Be kind."
Meng Zhi stood there in the booth for half an hour before she was dragged back to the old man’s mansion. He beat her till all her bones were broken.
Cursing at her, he said coldly, "Did you seriously think anyone could love you? I never knew you had a hidden lover in your heart. Stupid bitch! Just wait and see how I will teach you a lesson."
Meng Zhi closed her eyes a tear slid down her eyes, as she closed her eyes.
’If there is a next life... may I lose all my emotions and never feel this cursed love.’
