Chapter 48: Hidden Quest
Ni Mengxue looked over in surprise and, sure enough, saw a little boy with blue hair and blue eyes looking fiercely at an older man with a heavy build.
She might have ignored the chaos if she hadn’t heard the name Fu Sinan...
She watched as the older man slapped Fu Sinan hard and the zombie crystals fell out of his pocket. His eyes happened to lock onto hers, and a glint flickered in his eyes.
’Wow... I never thought I would see someone with such eyes ever again. ’Ni Mengxue thought. Those cold eyes, filled with hatred toward the world and burning with anger.
Neither she nor the boy looked away. It was as if both of them were in some kind of showdown. Finally, she smirked and started to walk toward him.
The older man’s brows furrowed when he saw Ni Mengxue closing in toward them. With a stern gaze, he said, "Young lady, stay out of this matter. Otherwise..."
He didn’t finish, but others behind him laughed. Ni Mengxue waved her hand. "Leave; I need to talk with this boy."
"Miss Ni, don’t tell me you have started to feel pity toward a boy unrelated to you." ’Snake’, aka the older man, laughed disdainfully, his eyes lecherous, scanning her body.
"Look away; if you continue to stare at my body, I will have no choice but to gouge it out." She sighed as she knelt in front of the boy.
Feeling his dignity being challenged, Snake was furious and ordered his man, "Attack her! Tie her up! Today I will sleep with her, and then you all can have your turn..."
Before he could finish, he felt a wave of coldness spread all over him, followed by a layer of ice covering him. Even with the icy fragrance, he couldn’t believe his situation.
No one could. After all, Snake had level 7 super strength, and all the elemental powers under level 5 wouldn’t have any effect against him.
And yet... here he was... frozen like an ice statue. If Ni Mengxue could hear his thoughts, she would have laughed at him. The people of this world awakened superpowers just 5 years before.
While she? She had awakened it 1000 years ago. She had an affinity toward metal and psychic powers in her past life. And even though her current ice power was different from her past life’s powers... the essence of each element was similar.
At its cores, whoever can understand the nature, build its domain, learn to control them and continuously strengthen their connection with it would eventually reach a level that ordinary superhumans could never comprehend.
Ni Mengxue had already walked that path once.
Even though her current body had only recently awakened its ice ability, her understanding of elemental powers was not something that could be measured by the standards of this era.
"At the end of the day, you’re simply too weak."
Ni Mengxue glanced at the frozen Snake before turning her attention toward the men standing behind him.
The group finally recovered from their shock.
"Run!" One of them shouted.
The remaining men immediately turned around and tried to escape. Ni Mengxue didn’t even bother chasing them.
She merely raised her hand. A thin layer of frost spread across the ground at an astonishing speed, instantly catching up with their feet and freezing them in place.
The men screamed in panic. "Please! Please spare us! We didn’t do anything!"
"Miss, this has nothing to do with us!"
Ni Mengxue calmly looked at them. "Didn’t do anything?"
Her gaze shifted toward Fu Sinan. The boy was still lying on the ground. His cheek was swollen from the slap, and there was blood at the corner of his lips, yet he hadn’t cried.
Ni Mengxue’s gaze softened slightly. "Did they hurt you?"
Fu Sinan didn’t answer immediately; instead, he pushed himself up and picked up the zombie crystals that had fallen from his pocket before carefully putting them away again.
Only then did he look at her. "Why did you save me?"
His voice was hoarse. Ni Mengxue raised an eyebrow.
"Hm... because I think you will be a big shot in the future. You have lots of potential..." to be a villain.
In her previous life, most of the criminals who shook the entire galaxy to the core always had such kinds of eyes. She didn’t care if he destoryed this world or made it even more miserable, but...
How nice it would be to have such a villain by her side. Considering how he was trying to survive, surely he must have someone he wishes to see survive.
So... there was still time to redeem.
Thud! The little boy suddenly knelt in front of her, stunning her. She heard him say, "Then take me and my brother in. I promise to become your knife and kill whoever you wish to."
’Idiot. She is definitely an idiot. Potential, my foot. At most I have certain tricks up my sleeve. As long as she takes us in and raises her for the next 3 months, I can accumulate a few crystals as savings.’ Fu Sinan thought maliciously.
’Then even if she kicks us out, we would have a way to survive.’
Ni Mengxue saw his expression and chuckled internally. If she didn’t know what was going on in his mind... she would be an idiot!
"Sure." Still, she played along. "Follow me."
With that, she stood up. In a daze, Fu Sinan followed her and stopped by to pick up his brother, who was hiding in a corner of the gate. Both of them followed behind her until they reached a classy residential area.
Thankfully Lu Yucai had rented extra rooms, so Ni Mengxue easily settled the two little ones.
’Hm... as long as I find golden fruit and make ability-awakening potions, then these villains will become more useful to me.’
