Chapter 1568 - 796: Tossing and Turning
Before heading out to record Lew Yuan’s new show, Zhou Yun had two tasks to complete.
In the morning, she’ll be recording eight VCRs, all for movies that are set to premiere in the next one to two months. The production companies requested Zhou Yun to record the VCRs to help with promotion and support.
Zhou Yun agreed to all of them.
In the film industry, Zhou Yun believes that any help she can offer is worthwhile.
"It’s a pity you don’t have a movie releasing this Spring Festival," Zhou Lan said. "Actually, if the post-production for ’Female Assassin’ was done, it would have been quite suitable for the Spring Festival slot."
"No way, it’s not suitable at all. It’s neither family-friendly nor funny," Zhou Yun replied. "It’s just a really cool film, completely unsuitable for the Spring Festival."
Zhou Lan said, "If you put it that way, I see your point. But this is the only blockbuster you’ve got in hand, and aside from this, there’s nothing else suitable for the Spring Festival. Speaking of which, you’ve never really acted in any other comedies apart from ’Warm Little Horse.’"
Zhou Yun said, "Comedy is hard to perform, and it seems like comedy films never really approach me. Maybe they think I’m not suitable for it."
Zhou Lan said, "It doesn’t have to be a comedy. Some lighthearted, warm film would also fit well for the Spring Festival."
"Oh, there’s no need to specifically aim for the Spring Festival slot," Zhou Yun said.
"Nowadays, the Spring Festival is the most important slot of the year."
"I’ll wait for a suitable movie in the future," Zhou Yun said.
"But Brother Chi will still be in this year’s Spring Festival slot," Zhou Lan said. "I heard some inside news that ’Jiangyun Platform’ is about to announce its release date."
"’Jiangyun Platform’?" Zhou Yun was utterly shocked. "Isn’t this a disaster film?"
"Yes, but reportedly, the internal screenings have had excellent feedback," Zhou Lan said. "Especially the ending, where the disaster is over, and everyone returns to peaceful, warm lives. Many people were moved to tears, so..."
"Then ’Jiangyun Platform’ should have a good box office," Zhou Yun said.
"Indeed," Zhou Lan laughed. "Last year, even ’Laissez-faire,’ a spy war film, did quite well in the Spring Festival slot. Within the industry, especially cinema managers, there’s still great interest in Song Chi’s blockbusters."
After recording the VCR, Zhou Yun invited everyone from the studio for lunch.
After that, Zhou Yun would be heading to Australia for filming and wouldn’t be back for the Spring Festival.
Although Zhou Lan would be overseeing everything, ensuring year-end bonuses and New Year red envelopes are in place, as the boss of the studio, Zhou Yun still felt she needed to show appreciation.
Zhou Lan mentioned that most of the team at the studio are her fans, and Zhou Yun rarely visits the studio as is. Since she was here, with only one interview scheduled at four in the afternoon, they might as well have lunch together.
Zhou Yun gladly agreed.
Zhou Lan always thought things through thoroughly on her behalf.
Zhou Lan also took care of the venue booking, which was no small feat since they needed a space to accommodate around thirty people for lunch. But Zhou Lan settled it with just one phone call.
The studio didn’t have an office for Zhou Yun—there used to be one, but because the team was cramped for space and Zhou Yun barely visited, her office was repurposed.
Without anywhere else to go, Zhou Yun had to stay with Zhou Lan.
"Should we rent more office space?" Zhou Yun asked.
She just saw that the workspace outside was getting very crowded.
Zhou Lan said, "I’ve thought about it too, but we haven’t found a suitable place. Our studio is small enough that we don’t really need a whole floor, but not so small that it’s easy to find partial spaces. If we rent a whole floor, it’s a lot of wasted rent since we wouldn’t use half of it, yet without it, the choices are very limited."
Zhou Yun said, "Isn’t there any other available space in this building?"
"Currently, there isn’t any, so we have to make do for now," Zhou Lan replied.
Zhou Yun thought to herself, the studio’s workload was steady, and it wasn’t expected to increase substantially. Indeed, renting a whole floor is a significant investment.
But the current situation is a bit too cramped.
Zhou Lan said, "You don’t need to worry about this. When the time comes, everything will straighten out. Right now, it’s just a matter of squeezing a little and making do. If we find the right place, we’ll move immediately."
"That’s good."
"You were born to worry."
Zhou Yun asked, "Hey, by the way, how are things going with Lin Zhiping?"
Zhou Lan raised her right hand, gesturing for Zhou Yun to zip it.
