"You’re just making excuses. If I like a work, I will do everything possible to make it better. But has Song Chi’s company done that?" Wei Weicheng said, "Except for ’Mother’ which was quite good, aren’t all other films just ordinary stuff? Who will remember those films after ten years?"

"Wei Weicheng, by your logic, many films should not be made because there are only a few that stand the test of time. We know that not every work we produce will succeed, nor will every one become a classic. That’s too rare. But can this be our reason to be picky? If, as you say, it seems to be a flop from the start and thus shouldn’t be made, then there would be no dark horses, and the market would be entirely controlled by mature directors and actors."

Wei Weicheng said, "That’s not what I meant at all."

"I know that’s not what you meant, but what you’re saying leads to that," Zhou Yun said very seriously. "Even ’Ashes of Time’ had to rely on ’The Eagle Shooting Heroes’ to get made. If a company cannot be profitable, how long can it last? Which film company can survive just by making good films?"
