After she finished speaking, she stuck out her tongue. "Was what I said super thick-skinned?"
Wen Xi burst into bright laughter.
"How are you this cute?"
Zhou Yun pressed her lips together in a smile.
Wen Xi said, "But I think it’s perfectly normal that you two could become friends. I’ve always felt the two of you are a bit alike."
"Alike?" Zhou Yun was a little surprised.
Personally, she felt she and Ning Yao were nothing alike.
Wen Xi said, "You two, one’s an overt romantic and one’s a covert romantic."
Zhou Yun was even more taken aback when she heard that.
"You mean I’m the covert romantic?"
Wen Xi nodded.
"You never felt that yourself?"
"Maybe a little, but I still think there’s some difference between me and Sister Ning Yao."
Zhou Yun felt that Ning Yao really did have that elf-like, otherworldly kind of romance to her—even gossiping and snacking on melon seeds looked so lively and full of spirit.
Wen Xi said, "Of course there are differences, but the two of you share this very similar kind of ease—when it comes to certain things other people care a lot about and take very seriously, neither of you really takes them to heart. That’s something I especially love about you both."
"Really?"
"Mm." Wen Xi nodded.
Something else occurred to her, and she said, "Oh right, did you fall out with that director?"
"You mean Hou Mengjie?" Zhou Yun shook her head. "I wouldn’t say we fell out. We hardly had any private contact to begin with. After this happened, I didn’t reach out to him, and he didn’t reach out to me either."
"It’s that mutually unbothered?" Wen Xi asked in surprise. "I thought you’d have already gone to confront him."
"What’s there to confront? However he chooses to handle things, I’m not going to take it too much to heart. It’s not like we were that close in the first place," Zhou Yun said. "What’s done is done. Even if I confront him, it doesn’t mean anything and it won’t change anything."
"But didn’t this cause you a lot of trouble? I even saw news saying they’re going to shoot a sequel to Four Killers. With things between you two like this, how are they supposed to film it?"
"I’ll just bow out. I wasn’t that keen on doing the sequel anyway," Zhou Yun said. "It’s really not a big deal."
"I don’t know much about your film industry, but with Four Killers doing so well at the box office, if you don’t do the sequel, you might have nothing to do with this franchise from here on out. Don’t underestimate what a sequel can do for an actor. If the next few installments all perform well, Yin Linglin will be the one reaping the rewards," Wen Xi said. "Once you withdraw, she’s the only female lead left."
"Let her have it."
Zhou Yun didn’t take any of this to heart.
Wen Xi gave her a thumbs-up and said, "You’re really open-minded."
"Okay, Sister Wen Xi, stop showering me with praise," Zhou Yun said helplessly. "Do you have any other plans after we finish up here? If not, want to go grab something to eat together?"
"Sure." Wen Xi nodded.
The brand event wrapped up an hour later.
That was the end of Zhou Yun’s work for the day.
She said a few words to Liu Yun, telling her she could head back first, then drove herself with Wen Xi to a Japanese restaurant.
By coincidence, the two of them ran into someone they knew at the restaurant.
Jin Su.
Wen Xi’s former junior from the agency, a male model who later entered the film and TV industry. Unfortunately, he hadn’t made much of a splash in the past two years.
Jin Su was eating with a few other people. When he saw Zhou Yun and Wen Xi walk in together, his eyes lit up instantly, and he got to his feet and strode over.
"Sister Wen, Xiao Yun, what a coincidence. You two are eating here as well?"
Zhou Yun and Wen Xi were still dressed in the outfits they’d worn to the event earlier. They looked like they had just stepped off a red carpet, especially dazzling.
Wen Xi looked at Jin Su in surprise and delight.
"You’re having dinner here with friends?"
"Yeah." Jin Su nodded, his gaze flicking over the two of them as he asked, "Do you want to join us?"
