Chapter 501 - 231: The Return Journey

Off the coast of Ji Yang District’s port in Jibei Dao Central City, an ocean liner was moored at sea.

Inside one of its cabins, a meeting was underway. To avoid detection by the Biological Domain of Central City, they were using an independent one.

"According to our intelligence, both targets will arrive in Central City between late January and early February. Our focus, however, will be on this person."

Portraits of Chen Chuan and Director Lei appeared one after another on a light screen. With a flick of the host’s hand, Chen Chuan’s photo was isolated and enlarged.

This was clearly a recent photo, as Chen Chuan was wearing the uniform of a Processing Bureau Execution Captain. Just looking at it, one could sense a sharp, heroic aura.

"National Path is the best place to deal with the target."

The host collected himself, pulled his gaze away from Chen Chuan’s portrait, and continued, "The Processing Bureau highly values this target. If they send a message ahead of time, reinforcements might be dispatched to meet him. We’ll need to figure out how to block them. The target himself is extremely formidable in actual combat, so we only have one chance."

Jian Chengsheng stood to the side, cradling his sword. He was staring at Chen Chuan’s photo and the various notes displayed beside it, which included detailed information gathered by Sister Huan and her team.

This allowed him to gain a detailed understanding of his opponent and establish an early advantage.

He knew this was a surprise attack, not a duel, so there was no need to worry about fairness. In fact, under most circumstances, clashes between Fighters were never fair.

Battle was only divided into victory and defeat. Only the victor was qualified to speak of the future; the loser had nothing. Therefore, one should use every available condition to achieve their goal.

"Mr. Jian Cheng," the host said to him, "this time, we’ve hired two Third Limit Fighters to coordinate with you. They will not interfere in your fight with the target. They are only responsible for cleanup and cover, preventing anyone from interfering with your battle."

This measure wasn’t out of respect for their battle, but for practical reasons.

Judging from his previous fights, an ordinary Third Limit Fighter posed almost no threat to Chen Chuan. Rushing into the fight might even allow him to use them to his advantage, which would in turn affect Jian Chengsheng’s performance. Therefore, these two would simply serve as support.

To avoid leaving a trail for the Processing Bureau, both individuals had been summoned from distant central cities.

Jian Chengsheng seemed not to have heard him. He sat there motionless, his gaze fixed on the files. After a long while, he finally said, "I need a quiet room."

The host immediately instructed a staff member, "Take Mr. Jian Cheng over."

Jian Chengsheng stood up, gave a slight bow to the host, and followed the staff member out to a training room on the ship, one specially prepared for people like him.

After the others had left, he took off his shoes, walked to the center of the training room, and sat down formally. He silently recalled the information he had just seen.

He had noticed something: in every verifiable battle, Chen Chuan never seemed to sustain any serious injuries. Whether it was due to his Horizontal Training or his techniques, this fact would complicate Jian Chengsheng’s own attack.

He closed his eyes, an image brewing in his Spiritual World. When he opened them again, a shadow seemed to have appeared before him.

The figure was illusory and unreal, like a transparent mist. It stood a short distance away, and in his eyes, it took on the appearance of Chen Chuan.

He turned his body slightly, raised a hand to grip the hilt of his sword, and stared for a moment. Then, he suddenly drew his blade and lunged forward with a horizontal slash!

However, just as the blade reached the phantom’s side, it stopped abruptly, as if an invisible barrier was preventing him from completing his Sword Stance.

He exhaled, stepped back, and slowly sheathed his sword. After a moment, he slashed out again, but once more, the blade stopped short of the phantom.

He retreated again, sheathed his sword, and stared at the phantom before him. In a tone of certainty, he said, "My blade... is not sharp enough."

He thought for a moment, then walked out of the room and said to the staff member waiting outside, "I need something. Something that cannot be cut."

The staff member asked politely, "Mr. Jian Cheng, may I ask what this thing is?"

Jian Chengsheng said frankly, "I don’t know."

"You don’t know?"

The staff member was stunned. He thought for a moment, then asked cautiously, "In that case, Mr. Jian Cheng, may I know what this thing will be used for?"

Jian Chengsheng said in a serious and earnest tone, "It is related to the elimination of the target."

The staff member thought for a moment and said, "Alright. We will do our best."

"I’m counting on you!"

Jian Chengsheng bowed slightly.

The staff member quickly returned the bow, then immediately reported Jian Chengsheng’s request to the person in charge.

"Something that can’t be cut? What is that?" The person in charge frowned. "He doesn’t know himself? How are we supposed to find it?"

However, one of the meeting attendees in the cabin suddenly had an idea. "I think I might know what he wants," he said.

He met the gazes of everyone in the meeting room and said, "High Heaven Jade. It’s something produced by the Gao Tian Sect and is said to be indestructible. But within this jade, there are a rare few ’Jade Cores.’ They are rumored to be the hardest substance in the world. Legend also says this thing can help a Fighter sublimate their spirit."

"Is that what he needs?"

"It should be. I’ve heard that the Jade Core is a Sacred Object of the Gao Tian Sect, normally kept secret from outsiders. For Jian Chengsheng to bring it up now, it’s likely just to satisfy his own needs."

The person in charge wasn’t concerned about that. He said, "Since he is our blade now, shouldn’t we find a whetstone for him before the battle to make him sharper? Whether it’s for his personal gain or because this Jade Core is truly useful, we should do our best to satisfy his request."

Someone said, "But that’s a Sacred Object of the Gao Tian Sect..."

"Everything must give way to the company’s interests."

The Gao Tian Sect used to be a massive power with a wide sphere of influence and numerous followers across the Outer Ocean. But that was in the old era. Because they provided immense help to the Imperial Family during the civil war in which Dashun overthrew them, the Dashun Government has been continuously suppressing the sect, trying every means to eradicate its influence.

Especially now, with an army stationed on the former site of the Gao Tian Sect’s Holy Land, the sect has suffered a devastating blow. Its most influential figures are now gathered around the Gongshi, merely huddling together for warmth, their power greatly diminished.

Meanwhile, the Ferris Wheel Company has now amassed the technology and capital of the various island nations of the Outer Ocean. It possesses its own armed forces, and its influence over these nations grows by the day.

The person in charge said, "Send someone to the Gao Tian Sect. Tell them to hand over the item. I want it in his hands in the shortest possible time!"

On January 26th, the day Chen Chuan had set for his return to Central City, Yu Wan’s family saw him to the end of the alley. After waving goodbye to his family, he got into a Gard Car under the watchful gaze of Yu Wan and her family, then drove away from the Patrol Bureau Family Area.

Instead of taking the main road out of the city, he detoured to the plaza in front of Wuyi Academy. Wu Han and Weidong were already there, waiting with bags of all sizes and their personal weapons.

Chen Chuan honked the horn twice in short bursts, stopped in front of them, and got out to say hello. He then opened the trunk and helped them put their things inside.

Once they were settled in the car, he took two boxes from the storage compartment and handed them over.

"You mentioned you wanted to come to Central City last time. I prepared these Realm Tokens for you in advance."

Wu Han and Weidong took them curiously. They opened the boxes and saw what looked like a web-like object made of fine bone, designed to connect to the head, neck, and shoulders. Aside from a few more obvious main parts, the rest of it was almost invisible to the naked eye from a distance.

The ones Chen Chuan gave them were a mid-range model. They had all the basic functions and were much better than the one Old Qi had given him before.

However, he hadn’t given them a top-tier model. It wasn’t to save a little money, but because, given their personalities, there was no telling how long these Realm Tokens would last.

Weidong poked it with his finger. The Realm Token trembled slightly. He said, "This thing feels like it’s alive."

Wu Han said, "Didn’t our junior tell us? This thing *is* alive. Of course it moves."

He then looked up at Chen Chuan and said, "Brother Chen, we have something for you too." As he spoke, he rummaged through his bag and pulled out an exquisite black-and-white wooden box from the top.

Chen Chuan took it and opened it to find a box of throwing stones. Each one was polished smooth and fine. He picked one up to examine it. "These were polished from the hard rock of Zhang Mountain, weren’t they?"

"That’s right."

Wu Han chuckled. "Weidong, Junior Luo, and I asked some experts, then went to Zhang Mountain to look for the right material. We eventually found a few suitable pieces and brought them back to work on."

This stuff is really hard. Weidong was in charge of breaking it into uniform pieces, while Junior Luo and I found the right ones to polish. The beautiful box was handmade by Junior Feng."

"Oh, and we polished them based on the stones you used to use. We hope you like them."

Chen Chuan smiled and said, "This is very thoughtful of you. I like them a lot. Thank you."

Although the items themselves weren’t very valuable, the sentiment behind them was priceless and held great sentimental value. He decided not to use them, but to display them in his weapon collection room when he got back.

He turned to face forward, started the car, and rested his hand on the steering wheel. Gazing at the open road ahead, he said, "You two, hold on tight. We’re heading out."
