Chapter 456 - 186: Analysis
Chen Chuan reached out and continued to flip through the pages. There was indeed more.
But as he read on, he couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.
He had expected to see some information related to the Fourth Limit, but while there was plenty of text, it was just a series of delirious descriptions—jumbled and chaotic.
The characters weren’t carved like the previous ones. Instead, they were written directly on the page with a brush dipped in blood, making them extremely messy and difficult to decipher.
The only phrases he could clearly make out were things like "Holy Cave" and "Secret Land." It seemed like breaking through to this level was related to a specific location.
But as for how to find it, there was nothing written, or perhaps the method was hidden within those delirious ramblings. It was completely beyond his comprehension.
’Seems like this thing isn’t very valuable, then.’
Just as he was about to put it down, he suddenly remembered something and picked it up again. This time, he ignored the text completely, focusing instead on how the brushstrokes vaguely formed the outline of mountains and rivers.
’Is this... a map?’
’But just by looking at this, who could possibly know where it points to?’
If this were the old era, with no other path for advancement, he might have tried to find it. But now, with established paths available, there was no need to waste the effort.
After another check to ensure nothing else was hidden, he found a leather case, wrapped everything in a waterproof cloth, and packed it away. He then emerged from the woods on the other side, crossed the lake on foot as before, and found his car. Tossing the case onto the back seat, he drove back the way he came.
At that moment, in the Yinglu Villa, Sister Huan received a report from one of her subordinates.
"Sister Huan, Team Two reports that they may have been discovered by the target. Their last few attempts to approach and surveil the target were all detected in advance by a Resonator."
"Is it related to the Processing Bureau?"
"No. Judging by the way the Boundary Point was used, they weren’t drawing from public resources."
Sister Huan said decisively, "Immediately withdraw all surveillance on the target. From now on, all intelligence on him will be gathered through indirect methods."
She was extremely worried this incident would alert Chen Chuan and lead to the Processing Bureau’s intervention.
The possibility was low, but if the Processing Bureau really did get involved, they might be able to uncover a few clues.
Although they had no apparent connection to the company on the surface, if they were exposed or ended up on the Processing Bureau’s list, it would be impossible to conduct any more covert operations.
She had barely ended the call when another one came in.
"Sister Huan, the people we sent to the Edge City to look for information are back."
Sister Huan said immediately, "Put them through."
A moment later, another person’s voice came through the Realm Token. After a respectful greeting, she cut straight to the point. "How did it go? What did you find?"
"We found that the target graduated from Yangzhi Wuyi just a year ago. He has a big reputation locally, and many people know of him..."
Sister Huan cut him off. "You can skip all that. Just compile it into a report and send it to my Realm Token later. All I need to know is, did you find anything about his prior fighting record?"
"Well... I’m sorry, Sister Huan. I couldn’t find anything."
"What happened?"
The man said helplessly, "The target’s files are all stored in the archives of the local Wuyi Academy. It’s inside the academy’s administration building. I tried to get in several times but couldn’t, and I was almost discovered. Even if I had gotten in, I doubt I could have found the specific file we need."
"So, I could only gather some information from the students, but without any specific descriptions, I can’t confirm if it’s true."
Sister Huan asked, "So the school has nothing. For a Fighter like him, the government must have records. Did you check there?"
The man replied, "Couldn’t find anything there either. I can only confirm that the records were taken a long time ago."
"Taken?"
"Maybe by some special department, or maybe a Litigation Master firm he hired. But I think a government department is the most likely culprit, because even after being paid, the relevant officials claimed to know nothing. I felt something was off and feared there would be trouble if I kept digging, so I stopped."
Sister Huan didn’t blame him. Instead, she said, "You did the right thing. You were very careful. It’s better not to verify than to alert the relevant Dashun departments. Alright, send over the information you gathered."
It wasn’t long before her Realm Token received the files on Chen Chuan’s activities in Yangzhi. Most of it was just a record of his victories, which wasn’t very helpful for their operation. However, her gaze paused when she saw one particular entry.
"’Circulation Technique?’"
This was the Force Technique Chen Chuan was rumored to practice. She wasn’t familiar with it, so she had to look it up to get a general idea of its characteristics.
But she was very knowledgeable and didn’t think this Force Technique was bad.
In theory, as long as one’s Mutated Organization coverage was high enough, this Power could be cultivated. It could even promote the growth of the Mutated Organization in return.
The only difference was the extent to which one could cultivate it. Talent, aptitude, and willpower all had an influence.
From what she could see, she could at least confirm one thing: Chen Chuan’s Mutated Organization coverage must be very high, likely over eighty percent. This matched her earlier judgment.
But even knowing this, she wasn’t too concerned.
Because while this Force Technique could theoretically simulate all kinds of Power, theory was just theory.
At Chen Chuan’s age, he couldn’t possibly have cultivated it to a profound level. At most, he would have only laid a good foundation before choosing a specialization. Even the most talented people had to make choices.
It seemed highly likely he had chosen to strengthen his Capture and Scattering Hand techniques, along with some Power from Saber Techniques. He might even have a hidden Grasping and Holding Force up his sleeve.
’In that case...’
She sent her analysis and all the files to the analysis team, instructing, "Use this, combined with the previously gathered information, to run a tactical simulation."
This involved creating a simulacrum using multiple non-active Consciousness Bodies based on a target’s previously demonstrated physical attributes—including strength, speed, endurance, and combat reflexes—and factoring in all possible techniques. This simulacrum was then used to run tactical simulations against the target.
Although it was only a simulation and couldn’t represent a real situation, it could help them refine their plan to a certain extent. Many companies’ field operatives now used such tactical simulations when dealing with difficult targets.
After waiting for a long time, the results came in, but they weren’t very optimistic.
Out of ten simulations, six ended in failure. The remaining four were successes, but only under special environmental conditions with overly obvious subjective bias. If those were discounted, the win rate was actually very low.
A team member said through the Realm Token, "Sister Huan, every time we fail, it’s because the target chooses to retreat once the situation turns unfavorable. Once he makes that choice, we lack the personnel to forcefully block his escape, so we can’t pin him down unless the environment allows for it."
Sister Huan thought for a moment and said, "What if we add Jiang Huowang to the simulation?"
The team member was taken aback. "Uh... we haven’t run a simulation with him. Besides, we don’t know the specifics of his abilities."
Sister Huan asked, "Where is Jiang Huowang now?"
There was a pause on the other end before the reply came. "He’s training at Tingchao Hall on Hui Island."
"Find Jiang Huowang. I need to see him within three days."
"Understood."
Meanwhile, after leaving Lu Lan Lake, Chen Chuan went directly to the residence the company had gifted him and stored the items he had acquired there.
After leaving the residence, he thought for a moment, turned the steering wheel, and drove toward the Deep Unexplored District. More than half an hour later, he arrived in front of an underground Fighting Hall.
This was Senior Brother Lu’s Fighting Hall. He had never been here before. The two of them hadn’t been in contact recently, so he decided to stop by and check on him.
After parking the car, he walked into the Fighting Hall. The sign and entrance were rather plain, but the interior was spacious. He took off his shoes and went inside, where he saw a group of boys shouting and wrestling. Lu Fang was standing to the side, protecting and instructing them.
He looked at the boys and couldn’t help but think of the children in the Lower City District. Regardless of their parents’ reasons for having them learn Fighting Skills, with the ’Great Global Collision’ on the horizon, this choice was probably the right one.
"Junior Chen?"
Lu Fang had just noticed Chen Chuan walking in and a look of delight appeared on his face. He gestured for the boys to take a break, then walked over. "What brings you here? Just passing through?"
Chen Chuan said, "I’m on leave recently, so I came to see you, Senior Brother."
Lu Fang invited him to sit on a sofa off to the side and brewed him a cup of tea. "I only have ordinary tea here. I’m not sure if you’re used to it, Junior."
Chen Chuan smiled. "I don’t usually drink fancy tea anyway." He glanced around and added, "Are you here alone, Senior Brother?"
Lu Fang said, "The hall doesn’t need that many people. The other two senior brothers saw that I could manage the daily operations, so they went to take on some commissions. After all, training in fighting is quite expensive."
’Some employers love to hire people like that—unofficial but highly skilled in combat. That way, they aren’t responsible if something goes wrong. The two senior brothers fit the description perfectly.’
He asked, "How’s business at the Fighting Hall?"
Lu Fang replied, "We have a lot of clients, business has been great lately. Some gangs have even hired us to teach them Fighting Skills. The other two senior brothers often go, but I don’t like those types, so I focus on teaching the kids."
He looked out at the training floor. "Most of them will probably join gangs later, or become enforcers and do dirty work for others. While I’m teaching them Fighting Skills, I can also teach them some principles. Maybe I can change them, just a little."
Chen Chuan gazed at the spacious floor, took a sip of his tea, and said with a smile, "Senior Brother Lu, speaking of which, we haven’t sparred since that match at the academy."
Lu Fang was stunned for a moment, then his eyes lit up. He knew Chen Chuan had already reached the Third Limit. Though he called it a "spar," it was really an offer to guide him. This was a rare opportunity.
He immediately stood up and said with utmost seriousness, "Junior, in that case, I’ll have to trouble you for your guidance."
