Chapter 509 - 239: Reporting
After waiting at the scene for about ten minutes, the support team from Central City finally arrived.
This time, in addition to the reception team sent by the Esoteric Review Bureau, the Processing Bureau had also dispatched a team. After arriving, they began clearing the bodies littering the ground and making inquiries.
Upon learning that a convoy suspected of belonging to Lianwei Zhongyu was still behind them, they immediately sent a portion of their personnel to investigate.
However, it was highly likely that the convoy was using a false name. After all, no one would be brazen enough to carve their own name on their vehicles while attacking a government official.
Once everything at the scene was handled, the escort team boarded vehicles provided by the support troops and continued their journey. But with the delay, it was already dusk when they reached Central City, and the sky had begun to darken.
Wu Han and Weidong sat in the Gard Car, their eyes wide as they stared at the towering skyscrapers lining both sides of the boulevard, the flickering light screens above, and the flashy advertisements constantly sounding from their Realm Tokens.
Although they had heard all about it from Chen Chuan, seeing it with their own eyes still filled them with a profound sense of shock, and they couldn’t help but gasp in amazement.
After entering the city, Chen Chuan first used his Realm Token to send a verbal report to the Processing Bureau. He then sent a message to all his acquaintances, letting them know he was back in Central City.
But perhaps because he had just been attacked, a security company in Central City actually sent him a promotional ad, urging him to purchase their protection services.
The ad not only listed various service packages based on his approximate income at the Processing Bureau but also included a thoughtful reminder that, as a premium client, he could apply for a long-term loan if he was short on funds.
’As a member of the Processing Bureau, my main job is to manage violent crime in the city, yet they want me to buy this service? How ironic.’ But on second thought, it was actually quite reasonable.
He swiped it away and said to Wu Han, "Senior Brother Wu, I’ll take Weidong to the academy to register first, then I’ll arrange a place for you to stay."
Wu Han said, "Sounds good, Junior Brother. I haven’t seen what the Central Hospital Martial Arts Academy looks like yet. This will be an eye-opener."
Chen Chuan drove the Gard Car onto an elevated highway. About an hour later, they descended, and a towering, octagonal skyscraper came into view. Its top was ringed with old-fashioned flying eaves and upturned corners, surrounded by floating auspicious clouds and levitating lanterns. He said, "That’s the Profound Palace Building."
Wu Han exclaimed in awe, "Whoa, it’s so tall! Magnificent."
Although the Profound Palace Building wasn’t the tallest in the Wuding District, it was certainly one of the tallest buildings in the area.
Chen Chuan looked up, nodding through the window at a red figure above. The vehicle passed smoothly through the inspection area and drove into the underground parking garage. Once there, he connected to the academy’s platform and submitted an application to be Weidong’s student guide.
Normally, doing this would earn him evaluation points, but he no longer needed them.
He took Wu Han and Weidong up the elevator to the reception hall, where students were walking about in small groups, talking in hushed tones.
When he first arrived, it had been just a few days after the New Year. Back then, the Domain’s resources were open to him alone, and through his Realm Token, he could see many magnificent and wondrous sights.
This time, however, it was almost the official start of the semester. With so many students, the resources were spread thin. All he could see were the two Golden Armor Divine Generals standing at the entrance, still looking down on the students coming and going with arrogant expressions.
In fact, it wasn’t normal for so many students to be at Wuyi Academy before the semester had even begun.
In the past, many students avoided the Profound Palace Building because its numerous rules and restrictions made things inconvenient. Most would simply purchase the required services and then train elsewhere.
But because the academy had recently established a rule that students with low evaluation scores would be demoted to external status, everyone was now competing fiercely, training desperately to avoid being sent to the fighting rings in the end.
Chen Chuan first took Weidong to the registration point to verify his identity, pick up his student Name Card, and get his dorm assignment. Weidong was assigned to room three on the fortieth floor.
Outsiders weren’t allowed in the dorms, so Chen Chuan had Wu Han wait downstairs. He first took Weidong to the fortieth floor, then went to the forty-ninth floor to drop off his own things before taking the elevator back down to the main lobby.
He hadn’t left Chaoming in his dorm this time. He had promised to give it an extra treat today, so he brought it with him. Besides, Chaoming was smart and he didn’t have to worry about it following him at all.
But after waiting with Wu Han for quite some time, there was still no sign of Weidong.
Just then, Hong Fu’s voice sounded in his Realm Token: "Student ID ’95124003’ and student ID ’95093701’ are in a conflict near the twentieth-floor elevators. All students please avoid the area."
Chen Chuan raised an eyebrow. ’Wasn’t Weidong’s ID number just now 95124003?’
’Did he start a fight with another student already?’
He remained calm, though. At Wuyi Academy, this kind of thing was no big deal. Any damages would just have to be paid for, and with Hong Fu watching, no student would actually get killed.
He said, "Senior Brother Wu, Weidong’s gotten into a fight. I’m going to check it out."
"A fight?" Wu Han looked surprised, then said excitedly, "Can I go too?"
There was no reason he couldn’t. Chen Chuan nodded and led him into the elevator, heading straight for the twentieth floor. When the elevator doors opened, he stepped out and immediately saw Weidong grappling with another well-built student.
It was clear the other guy specialized in Capture techniques. Weidong was covered in dust, while the other student had a red mark on his face. He looked like a new student as well.
A small crowd of onlookers had already gathered, but no one stepped forward to intervene. They were all waiting to see who would win.
When they saw Chen Chuan, however, many of their expressions tensed up. They proactively raised a hand in greeting, clearly recognizing him. Some whispered a few words to their companions, who then involuntarily glanced at him with awe.
Chen Chuan nodded in response to their greetings, then turned his attention back to the fight, waiting for the two to settle things.
A fight between a Capture specialist and a Horizontal Training practitioner wasn’t much of a spectacle. It was just a matter of who could hold out longer.
He didn’t have high hopes for the other student, though. Weidong had excellent stamina and an extremely fast recovery rate. If he couldn’t be taken down quickly, the outcome was obvious.
Just as he predicted, the other student channeled his Power for a long time, his face turning red, but he still couldn’t get the better of Weidong. Weidong, however, couldn’t fully exert his strength either. The two were locked in a stalemate for about ten minutes until the other student gradually began to falter.
Seizing the opportunity, Weidong flipped him over and sat on top of him, immediately raising a fist. The student underneath yelled, "Don’t hit the face!"
Weidong didn’t listen and punched him right in the face.
"I said... don’t hit the face! You’re still hitting me? Still... OWW, stop hitting me... Stop, stop, I give up..."
Hearing him surrender, Weidong finally lowered his fist. He then pulled the grimacing student up from the floor and asked, "Hey, are you okay?"
The student, with a swollen eye and clutching the side of his face, glared at him angrily. ’The hell do you think?’
Just then, another student hurried over. Chen Chuan glanced at him and recognized him as Fan Cheng, whom he had run into in the elevator once. He hadn’t seen him since, but people like them had good memories and hadn’t forgotten.
Fan Cheng said to the other student, displeased, "Fan Shen, I’ve been waiting for you forever, and you’re here fighting someone?"
Fan Shen just huffed, his expression resentful.
Chen Chuan said, "Junior Wei, let’s go." With that, he turned and walked toward the elevator.
Only then did Fan Cheng notice Chen Chuan. Seeing Weidong follow him, he hesitated for a moment before asking in a low voice, "How did you two get into a fight?"
Fan Shen didn’t even look at him and walked toward the other elevator.
Fan Cheng felt a wave of exhaustion. His cousin had always been proud and arrogant. The semester hadn’t even started yet; he couldn’t imagine what it would be like once it did. He said to him, "If you like fighting so much, go do it in the ring. I won’t stop you."
Fan Shen retorted, "I don’t need you to tell me what to do! It’s not yet decided who’s going to the ring!"
Fan Cheng was furious, mainly because his cousin’s words hit a little too close to home. "Fine, then I won’t bother with you anymore," he snapped, then stormed off angrily.
As the elevator descended, Chen Chuan asked Weidong what had happened. The cause wasn’t complicated: Weidong had glanced at Fan Shen a few too many times, which made him uncomfortable. Fan Shen stared back, they had a staring contest, and without another word, they started throwing punches as soon as they got out of the elevator.
Wu Han was very supportive of this. He said, "Well done. You shouldn’t back down. You came to the Central Hospital to study and learn skills, not to get pushed around. But he told you not to hit his face, and you really went for it."
Weidong said, "Senior Sister Guan said that whatever your opponent doesn’t want you to do is exactly what you should do. As long as he hadn’t surrendered, I wasn’t going to listen to him."
Wu Han said, "Ah, Guan Xinyin. She’s a great fighter and smart, but in terms of potential, she can’t match you, kid." Then he turned to Chen Chuan. "From the looks of it, that guy seems to know people at the academy. Are they all Recommended Students from a group like the Mutual Aid Association? Will they cause trouble later?"
Facing people like that, a normal fight was nothing to be afraid of; the real worry was them resorting to dirty tricks.
Chen Chuan smiled. "Regardless of their original status, the differences aren’t that great once you’re in the Central Hospital. After Weidong gets an investor, other students will be even less likely to bother him."
Wu Han sighed with emotion. "It’s really nice." He hadn’t had the chance to study here, but after experiencing the atmosphere of the Central Hospital today, he couldn’t help but feel a little envious.
After the three of them came down, since it wasn’t too late, Chen Chuan decided to take them to the Shu Tianxia Hotel for dinner. The hotel was high enough and located on Central City’s central axis, making it a worthy vantage point.
The Gard Car drove out of the Profound Palace Building and sped into a dazzling and chaotic blaze of neon lights.
