Chapter 552 - 282: Elephant Gang
Wubei’s voice came from the Realm Token. "Brother Chen, is now a good time to talk?"
Chen Chuan said, "Go ahead, Brother Wu."
"Recently, quite a few Resonators have been trying to look into you. This kind of thing has been happening a lot ever since you made a name for yourself, Brother Chen. Some are from underground organizations that sell information, and others are likely peripheral intelligence gatherers for certain companies. They usually can’t find anything, so I typically just chase them off and don’t worry about it.
However, someone I’d previously flagged for investigating you came back. I’d drive them off, and they’d return. Each time, they just hovered at the outer layers of information. It seemed like they were trying to send a message, so I took the initiative and contacted them. It turns out they really did want something.
They said they have an important message for you and hinted that it’s related to the Company..."
Chen Chuan’s heart stirred. He had an agreement with Wubei: unless a specific prefix was used, "the Company" referred to Ferris Wheel.
Wubei continued, "Brother Chen, I figured I should let you know, whether it’s about the Company or just someone trying to stir up trouble."
Chen Chuan nodded. "You did the right thing, Brother Wu. Did the person just say they have a message for me?"
"Yes. They left an information frequency. I checked it; it’s clean."
After a moment’s thought, Chen Chuan said, "Alright, Brother Wu, please reply for me. Tell them I’m busy right now but will contact them later."
Wubei said, "No problem. I’ll keep an eye on it for you, Brother Chen."
Chen Chuan ended the call and returned to the display area. Manager Zhuang smiled and nodded at him. "Please take a look, Mr. Chen."
He tapped his Realm Token, and a category display appeared on the light screen in front of him.
At Wing Blade Company, if a creature’s Mutated Organization was cultivated postnatally, it would start out perfectly balanced. Only later would it develop in different directions according to the owner’s requirements.
This technology was already quite mature. These different development paths determined the abilities and attack methods the creature would possess in the future.
Once a path was chosen, in addition to requiring injections and ingestion of matching drugs, specialized Trainers would be assigned to exercise and enhance the creature’s abilities in that area.
Of course, this was all included in the service package. Although the price was very high, it was certainly worth the money.
And in view of Chaoming’s unique traits, Wing Blade Company had proposed three plans.
The first was to enhance its climbing, traversing, and related abilities.
Chen Chuan took a look. The company had collected a rich variety of scene fragments that fully demonstrated the characteristics of developing in this direction.
After careful cultivation and training, the creature could not only climb silently through all kinds of terrain and glide effortlessly between trees and skyscrapers, but also hide underground or in the treetops. If equipped with a few compatible Implants, its combat effectiveness would be even more outstanding.
On the Sangma Wogar Continent, many warlords trained such small creatures for self-defense and assassination missions.
The second option, naturally, was to enhance its flight and aerial hunting Mutations. This would allow the creature to fly higher and farther, to promptly identify and locate enemies and prey for tracking, and to dive from the sky to swiftly capture or kill targets on the ground.
These creatures typically possessed light yet tough Mutated bones and sinews, as well as fierce and powerful Mutated teeth and claws. Just watching the video clips, they looked incredibly formidable and fierce.
The third was a middle-of-the-road option, possessing traits from both paths, but excelling at neither. There wasn’t much to say about it.
After reviewing them, Chen Chuan unhesitatingly chose the flight path.
He didn’t need Chaoming to engage in direct combat. It was enough for it to provide him with a certain degree of vision and warning from the sky. For instance, Chaoming had performed outstandingly last time by spotting the Ferris Wheel Company’s convoy and ambushers in advance.
Seeing how decisive he was, Manager Zhuang nodded inwardly. He had met many clients with decision paralysis who found it difficult to make a choice, and then regretted it afterward, leading to repeated hassles.
While the company could simply charge additional fees, it undoubtedly added many risks. If the creature ended up having problems, it was the company’s reputation that would suffer.
After Chen Chuan confirmed his choice, he said, "Mr. Chen, in about five more days, once your pet’s condition has completely stabilized, it will enter the next phase."
"This is somewhat similar to a Fighter. It will have a relatively long growth period. We will move it into a nutrient pod to ensure its life functions remain stable, and then supply nutrients and drugs directly to the Mutated Organization via injection to promote its growth."
After he made his selection, a transparent view of Chaoming’s body appeared on the light screen. Different parts were marked with colors. The red areas showed where the Mutated Organization currently existed, while the blue areas were the parts to be enhanced in the next stage.
As a Fighter, he could tell at a glance the function of strengthening these parts and the direction of force they would generate. It all felt logical and well-designed. They must have tailor-made a plan specifically for Chaoming instead of just applying a fixed template or relying on past experience. He was quite satisfied with this approach.
He extended his hand and said, "Manager Zhuang, I’ll be leaving it in your hands then."
Manager Zhuang smiled and shook his hand. "Mr. Chen, please rest assured. You can leave it to us."
After concluding his business at Wing Blade Company, Chen Chuan left. Once he was in his car, he contacted Wubei again and, with the latter’s guidance, quickly entered an information frequency.
After a short wait, a very pleasant voice came through. It sounded like a young woman, perhaps with a gentle disposition. She asked tentatively, "Is this Mr. Chen... Chen Chuan?"
Chen Chuan said, "This is Chen Chuan."
"Mr. Chen, you... hello..." The young woman seemed nervous, as if she had some reservations, and for a moment, she didn’t seem to know how to begin.
Chen Chuan said, "Ma’am, you can take your time. I’m not in a rush. How should I address you?"
Hearing this, the woman on the other end collected herself. "My name is Deng Xin. I used to work in the intelligence department of the Ferris Wheel Company, responsible for gathering and organizing information for them."
Upon hearing this, Chen Chuan immediately said, "Please wait a moment." He switched to another frequency and asked Wubei, "Brother Wu, is your end secure?"
Wubei said, "Don’t worry, Brother Chen. This is a separate frequency I set up. No information will leak for at least the next three minutes."
Chen Chuan then turned back to Deng Xin. "Miss Deng, please continue."
Deng Xin said, "Okay, Mr. Chen... Mr. Chen, I know why the Company is targeting you. Because... they’re targeting me, too."
Chen Chuan’s heart stirred slightly. He didn’t immediately ask why, but instead inquired, "Miss Deng, where are you now?"
Deng Xin hesitated before saying, "I’m with the Elephant Gang."
When Chen Chuan heard she was with the Elephant Gang, he knew that if her answer was true, her words held a certain degree of credibility.
This was because the Elephant Gang had always been at odds with the Swordfish Gang, which was backed by the Ferris Wheel Company. The two gangs had completely different sources for their members. The Elephant Gang was now holed up in a corner entirely due to suppression from the Swordfish Gang. There was an indelible conflict and deep-seated hatred between them.
Chen Chuan said, "Miss Deng, thank you for the information. Is it convenient for you to come out?"
Deng Xin said, "I... can’t really come out."
Chen Chuan understood. From the cadence of her voice, he could tell that this Miss Deng might have practiced some Fighting Skill, but she was definitely not a Fighter. If, as she claimed, she was also being hunted by Ferris Wheel, it made sense that she wouldn’t dare to come out easily.
He thought for a moment. The private frequency was only secure for three minutes, and he had many more questions and details to confirm. So, he said, "How about this, Miss Deng? If you’re okay with it, I’ll come to you. We can talk face-to-face."
Deng Xin seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. "Okay, Mr. Chen. But when you come, please be extremely careful not to be spotted by the Ferris Wheel Company."
Chen Chuan said calmly, "Don’t worry. The Ferris Wheel Company isn’t capable of that right now."
Now, whenever he went out, he had Wubei handling Domain information around him. Moreover, the Processing Bureau and the Esoteric Review Bureau were monitoring the Ferris Wheel Company’s situation twenty-four hours a day. The slightest unusual movement would be detected. At least until the Fumu schism, he didn’t have to worry about Ferris Wheel being able to make a move.
He asked again, "Then when are you free, Miss Deng? Would this afternoon work?"
Deng Xin thought for a moment and said, "This afternoon is fine. I’ll have someone wait for you at the Elephant Gang’s market beforehand, Mr. Chen. When you arrive, you can contact them using this frequency."
Chen Chuan said, "Alright. I’ll be there around two in the afternoon."
With that settled, he ended the call.
He had always wanted to know why the Ferris Wheel Company was targeting him again and again. If he could figure that out, he could plan some countermeasures.
He first communicated with the Processing Bureau. This time, to ensure no information leaked, he directly contacted the Upper Five Bureau and explained the situation. They told him to be as careful as possible.
Chen Chuan agreed, but he knew the situation wasn’t that dangerous. Although the Elephant Gang was a gang, it had its own internal order. They wouldn’t dare to easily offend someone from the Processing Bureau.
He first returned to his dorm to get ready, then drove toward the Elephant Gang’s territory.
The Elephant Gang was located on the edge of Yinglu District, mostly avoiding the bustling areas. This was a result of being squeezed out by the Swordfish Gang. On the very outskirts was an open trading and commerce market. After all, more than ten thousand Foreigners from the Sheni Peninsula lived there in a cluster, and their daily need for living supplies was immense.
However, one couldn’t go deeper into their territory without an introduction or a guide. He used the previous frequency to make contact, describing his specific location and his car’s features.
After waiting for about ten minutes, a dark-skinned boy of about fifteen or sixteen came out on a skateboard. He quickly spotted the Gard Car, turned toward it, and as he got close, kicked the tail of the board up to stop, catching it deftly in his hand.
Chen Chuan opened the car door, and the boy slid in naturally. "I’m Ah Le. Big Sis sent me." He pointed at the road ahead. "Just drive straight in." He puffed out his chest. "Don’t worry, with me here, you’ll be fine going inside."
