"..." Anyway, if he’s having a hard time, he won’t let others feel better either.
Jane Sampson rolled her eyes at the lens, "You... such a person..."
Whatever kind of person he is, it’s all encapsulated in that eye roll.
James Black curled his lips, "You’ve been getting braver lately. You’re not gaining weight because you’re eating too much; it’s because of that bravery stretching you out."
Jane really didn’t know how to respond to that.
She blinked at the mobile phone screen, smiling with an innocent look, "I calculated just now, someone misses me so much they’re going crazy, so I mustn’t bother with a madman." Jane hummed twice, "I’m sleepy, going to sleep!"
Jane reached out to hang up the video call, frowning, "It’s only 10 p.m., can you really sleep? Are you sure?"
"Ever since I came back, I’ve been sleeping at 10 p.m. every day!" Jane wiggled her head, "Why wouldn’t I be able to sleep? I sleep perfectly well!"
"Jane Sampson, guess what I’ll do if I find out you’re browsing twitter or playing games with Peter and the others after you hang up?" James asked Jane seriously, full of threats.
Because Jane had done similar things many times.
Saying she went to sleep, then still interacting with fans in twitter half an hour later, or posting in Moments complaining about Peter’s or Oscar’s trashy skills.
Jane thought seriously for a moment, then answered, "Landlord Father might cut off the food supply for the poor little cabbage?"
"Who’s more pitiful?" James pressed on.
"Me!" Jane answered without hesitation, then yawned.
She was genuinely sleepy.
"That was before, ever since I returned to the countryside, this is the time I sleep every day. I’m not talking to you anymore, going to sleep." Jane waved at James and instead of hanging up, put the mobile phone aside, letting the lens face her, "See, I’m really going to sleep."
Jane then nestled fully into the quilt, exposing only half of her face, rubbing her eyes, closing them, and quickly falling asleep.
The light in her room was off; the glow from the mobile phone screen shone on her face, yet it didn’t affect her sleep at all.
She fell asleep really quickly, not pretending.
James was somewhat surprised.
Afraid of disturbing her sleep, though he really wanted to watch her adorable sleeping face longer, James still ended the video call.
She’d be back the day after tomorrow anyway, not too late to watch then.
The next day, the first thing Jane did upon waking up was sit up and check her phone to see when James ended the call last night.
In the afternoon, Coco Edwards arrived, along with James Carter and the whole Carter Family to the countryside.
Originally planning to meet Coco at the doorway, Jane was surprised to see her dad, mom, and brother stepping out of the car.
"Daddy! What brings you here?" Jane exclaimed, then ran towards Coco, whispering to her, "Do you totally hate James now?"
"Why would I hate the god of wealth who keeps giving me bonuses?" Coco looked puzzled, "I wish I could worship him."
"You two are on totally different wavelengths, can’t chat together." Father Carter teased Jane before explaining why he came.
