Chapter 383 - 381:”Why don’t we get started?”
A brilliant light covered the two young men as their bodies slowly levitated into the air.
A suffocating aura fell upon the entire place as the world around us began trembling.
RUMBLE!
The man that had appeared earlier, his expression now very grim, waved his hand as his aura spread out, covering the city behind him.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The earth shook and crumbled as the aura deepened.
I didn’t know why, but a sudden excitement began welling up from within me. Something was coming. I didn’t know what, but it was big.
A slow, anticipatory smile crawled its way up my face as I leveled an unflinching stare at the two youths whose bodies had begun breaking apart within the light, their essence converging together.
WENG! WENG! WENG!
A terrifying wave of energy began leaking from the convergence as the light show intensified.
"Magnificent..." The words left my lips before I could stop them as I watched on.
"Clear out. Now!" the man they had addressed as Kolen’kul ordered his men. "And raise the city’s barrier."
"As you wish, Your Majesty."
I wasn’t in the mood to pay attention to anything other than the transformation before me, and right when the world felt like it was approaching its breaking point...
HUMMMMM!!!!!
A silent hum echoed through the environment as the light show slowly died down. The light converging into a cocoon-like object as it floated there.
"Dante..." Salazar’s tight voice sounded from behind me.
"That thing..." Leo had abandoned his lazy posture as he reverted to his full size, eyes locked onto the cocoon before us.
A heavy silence fell upon the place as we all just... watched. No one seemed willing to disturb whatever was about to appear.
Fortunately, we didn’t have to wait long until...
BANG!
The cocoon exploded into shards of golden light that disappeared with a flourish. The first thing my eyes noticed, the first thing that caught my undivided attention, were the pristine, white-gold wings that were folded inward, covering whatever had come out of that cocoon.
"Beautiful..." Not the being, I was past that. I was admiring the beauty of those wings.
WOOSH!
The air split apart as the wings finally opened up, their full length put on display. Five pairs of white-gold wings, over twenty feet wide when spread out. Their majesty was undeniable.
And attached to those wings was...
My eyes shrank into pinholes the moment they landed on the being that had appeared.
Beautiful. So much so that words wouldn’t do him justice. Only a bit below me in terms of appearance, and that was saying something.
With eyes the brightest shade of green I’d ever seen and pupils the shape of twin inverted triangles, he stood at a height over eight feet tall, even taller than me. But that wasn’t what had my attention.
Other than the majestic wings behind him, it was his aura. It felt bottomless, unlike anything I’d ever felt before. It was an aura that felt like it would be insulting to place a tag on, so I didn’t.
"You..." The moment his voice came out—
RIIIIPPPPP!!!!!
The world fractured into bits and pieces as a violent rift was torn through the earth. A suffocating weight fell upon everyone, like the weight of the world itself.
"You are quite bold for a mere human." Cold. Detached. Like a higher existence speaking to an ant he could crush at any time.
"And you..." He disregarded me completely, his focus now turning onto the grim-faced Abyss Walker that had appeared earlier. "You dared speak to my son in such a manner. Quite bold for a filthy Abyss Walker."
His tone wasn’t even disrespectful anymore, it was a plain, abject form of indifference. It felt like looking at the pinnacle of what my old man was trying to achieve in his stoicism.
"Celestial... remember where you are. This... is not your divine realm," the man, Kolen’kul, spoke out. His voice was grim, but still strong.
Unfortunately...
BANG!!!
His knees shattered as they crashed into the earth below.
A mini crater forming from the collision.
"Urghh..." The groans of pain were so visceral I could almost feel his agony.
"This is not my divine realm? So what? You must still bow thy head when in my presence, you filthy creature."
The Celestial hadn’t even moved. A mere thought was all it took to bring the man known as Kolen’kul the Unkillable, a genuine Abyss Monarch figure, to his knees.
I glanced to the side, and I could see the dread coloring Salazar’s face.
"Cel... estial..." the man growled as his aura leaked out.
CRASSSHHHH!!!!
At this point, I was almost feeling bad for the Abyss, since every collision seemed hellbent on terraforming the entire place.
The auras of both the Celestial and the Abyss Walker clashed violently as the man struggled and clawed his way to his feet. I could see the visible strain as his body shook like a leaf in the wind, yet he withstood it, until finally...
"Haa... Haa..." His breathing came out heavy and labored as he finally righted himself, his knees having recovered.
"Heh! Such a deep understanding and control over this disgusting law of entropy. Alright, worm, you have earned the right to stand in my presence." The Celestial dismissed the Abyss Walker, whose eyes were spitting flames of hatred and humiliation.
"Now." He finally returned his attention to our little group as the others visibly tensed up behind me. "Human... why do you still stand before me?"
His words were more a command than a request as he spoke up...
"Kneel!"
BANG!!!
An impossibly heavy weight immediately fell upon our little group, one that carried the full intention of making us kneel, but...
"Hmmm?"
"Finally..." I couldn’t suppress it any further.
A slow, crazed smile curled up the corners of my lips as I felt the weight getting heavier every second my form refused to bend an inch.
"Finally..." I slowly spread my arms as the world around me caved in beneath my feet, a deep pit forming from the weight pressing down.
"Dante?" Leo’s confused voice fell on deaf ears as I raised my head to the sky.
"Finally..." And then—
"Hahahahahahahahahhaahhahahaha!!!!" I laughed.
CRAAAAACKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!
The pressure suddenly increased. Yet still...
"Hahahahahahahahahahaha... FINALLY!!!! SOMEONE WORTH FIGHTING!!"
At last. At long last, something that could survive an actual fight.
My laughter cut short immediately as I leveled a dead look at the Celestial before me.
"You... you’re strong."
"You still stand."
"I bow before nothing, Celestial. It is creation and everything in it instead that bows before me."
"Arrogant words from an ignorant mortal."
"I do not know what you’re looking for here, Celestial, but I thank you."
"You thank me? When your death is at hand, you still dare speak so frivolously?"
"I thank you for bringing me this gift of a proper battle." I ignored the man’s ramblings as I directed my words toward the others behind me. "Salazar."
"Yes."
"Can you guys keep that one down there busy for me?" I didn’t need to explain who, they understood well enough.
"Heh! What? Can’t handle them all this time?" Leo’s snide voice sounded beside me as he flew to my side, his eyes locked onto the quiet Celestial ahead of us.
"Nothing of the sort. I just thought you guys would like a chance to prove you’re not fodder just here to watch me shine."
A chord was successfully struck as Leo’s expression shifted. "He’s strong," he said, looking at the still motionless celestial.
"And that’s why I need to enjoy this bout properly."
"Alright then." Getting Leo’s approval, I signaled for Salazar to take them away.
"Alright then. Lord Kolen’kul, I’ve always been meaning to understand just how powerful the most brilliant Veyr in recent history truly is." Credit to the freak, he got over the pressure surprisingly quickly as he came to my side, eyes locked onto the figure still standing below.
"I do not know if I should call your conversation bold or foolish. You think any of you can leave here without my permission?"
"Salazar."
"Alright. If you don’t mind."
SNAP!
His fingers snapped, and they, along with the seething figure of Kolen’kul, disappeared from the spot.
The Celestial’s expression finally shifted as shock appeared on his face. "How?"
"If I want something to happen, oh Celestial, it will." My grin slowly turned turned feral. "Now, why don’t we get started?"
