Emilia’s POV

The line went quiet for a few seconds. I bit my lip, waiting for the other side to speak. Then I heard his voice. Low and lazy.

"What’s the matter?" he asked.

"Are you having sex right now, Sebastian?"

"...Why are you so straightforward?"

"What’s wrong? Are you really having sex? A woman answered your phone in the middle of the night. What am I supposed to think? Huh? Tell me."

"That was my friend..."

"Hey, Sebastian, do you also have female friends? I thought I was your one and only female friend. Should I feel honored that you actually have other female friends?"

"I haven’t finished. Can you let me finish?"

"Oh, go on." I raised an eyebrow, my tone casual. Let’s hear what story he can come up with.

"That was my friend’s wife."

I almost laughed. His friend’s wife? That was the lamest excuse I’d ever heard.

"Why did your friend’s wife pick up your phone, Sebastian? Does your friend not have hands? Or is it his wife’s job to answer your calls?"

"I went to the bathroom. She saw that you had been calling and thought there might be something urgent, so she picked it up for me."

"What about your friend? Why didn’t he pick it up?"

"He went to the bathroom too."

I rolled my eyes. This lie was getting more ridiculous by the second.

"Who are you trying to bluff, Alpha? Are you and your friend so close that you have to go to the bathroom together? Do you hold hands when you go? You’re an adult. Can’t you come up with a better excuse?"

A low grunt came through the phone. I could picture his face tightening. His wolf temper was flaring up.

"Then do I have such a good relationship with you that I have to explain who I’m with or who I go to the bathroom with?" His voice was clearly challenging. "Luna, aren’t you being a little too controlling?"

I let out a cold laugh. Too controlling? He was the one who said it.

"You were the one who said that as long as the marriage hasn’t ended, we should be loyal to each other! You made the rule yourself. Don’t tell me you forgot. Fine. Come on, give me your address."

"What for?"

"I don’t believe what you said. I want to exercise a Luna’s right. An on-site inspection. What’s wrong, Alpha? Are you scared?"

The truth was, I was already looking for an excuse to see him. Too many things were happening. Too messy. I needed to talk to him face to face. Now he had handed me the opportunity. I wasn’t going to let it go.

"Are you really coming?" His voice sounded a little surprised.

"Yes. What’s wrong? Is it inconvenient?"

"...Well, the entertainment room on the second floor of Emerald Business Hotel."

He quickly gave me an address. Before hanging up, he still managed to throw in a jab. "If you’re coming, then be quick. Be careful not to be penny wise, pound foolish."

What did that mean? I frowned. What was he mocking me about?

I couldn’t figure it out. But I didn’t want to think about it anymore. I would find out when I got there.

I took a taxi straight to Emerald Business Hotel. All the way there, I kept wondering what the hell he was up to. Who was that woman? His friend’s wife? Ha. I would see for myself.

When I got to the hotel, I realized how huge the place was. The whole building was extravagant. The second floor was all entertainment. Billiards. KTV. Bar. Spa. Restaurant. Swimming pool. Everything. I stood in the lobby, staring at the long row of hallways. I had no idea where to go.

I was about to pull out my phone and call him when a waiter walked up to me politely.

"Hello, are you Mrs. Simons?"

I paused for a second. Then nodded. "Yes."

"Please follow me."

The waiter led me through a long hallway and pushed open a glass door. Before I could even see where we were, I heard the sound of splashing water. A swimming pool. The water shimmered under the lights. A figure was cutting through the water, moving as smoothly as a fish. His muscles showed through the water. His short hair stuck to his forehead.

I was about to call out to him when a voice came from behind me.

"Hi, Miss Taylor. We meet again."

I turned around. My face dropped.

Well. What a small world.

Three men were lying on lounge chairs by the pool, wearing shorts. There were several hot women around them, all in bikinis. Their fingers were working on the men’s bodies, massaging hard. The men looked like kings on vacation.

It was the group I least wanted to see. Sebastian’s useless friends.

Jeremy waved at me. "Come and sit down."

I gave a dry laugh and sat down reluctantly. "Why are you all here?"

"Business trip."

"What a coincidence for all of you to have a business trip here at the same time." I raised an eyebrow.

Marcus shook his head. "Not all. Did you not notice one person isn’t here?"

"Three out of four have come. Round it up and it means all of you are here." I shrugged.

Caleb let out a laugh. "Miss Taylor, your calculation is so clear-cut. I’m sure you are usually very straightforward."

"Didn’t Sebastian say it? Don’t be blinded by the innocent look on the outside. In fact, I’m a petty person." I blinked at him. "He is right. I’m very petty. You’d better not mess with me."

"How could that be possible? To me, Miss Taylor has noble manners. I heard that your family is also in business, am I right?"

"Yes."

"What’s your father’s name?"

"Henry Taylor."

Jeremy’s expression turned strange. "Could it be Henry Taylor? The Alpha of that small pack who’s always currying favor with us?"
