Chapter 32 His Sincere Confession
Emilia’s POV
Scott’s hands gripped the steering wheel so tight his knuckles turned white, but he didn’t say a word.
He just drove, his jaw clenched, his eyes fixed on the road ahead like he was fighting some invisible battle.
The silence was suffocating.
But inside my head, it was chaos.
His thoughts crashed into my mind like a tidal wave, loud and desperate and breaking apart at the edges.
*Emilia married Sebastian Simons? How is that possible?*
*The woman I’ve loved for a year... I leave for one business trip and she marries someone else?!*
*It feels like the end of the world. Like facing inevitable death. That kind of helplessness... I can’t even describe it.*
My breath caught. I pressed myself against the car door, staring out the window, anywhere but at him.
God, Scott. Please stop thinking. Please.
But he didn’t. His thoughts kept pouring into my head.
I bit down on my lip hard. I had to pretend. I had to act like I couldn’t hear every single word screaming through his mind.
The car finally stopped.
I looked up. We were by the river. The water sparkled under the moonlight, peaceful.
Scott got out immediately, slamming his door behind him. He stood at the edge, staring at the water like it held answers.
*I came straight here from the airport. Didn’t even go home. I just wanted to see her. And this... this is what I get?*
I forced myself to get out of the car.
"Alpha Scott." My voice came out steadier than I felt. "As the CEO of Hanson Group, you’re supposed to be giving your opening remarks right now. Not... bringing me here to admire the view."
He didn’t turn around. For a moment, I thought he hadn’t heard me.
Then his shoulders tensed.
"Can we not talk about work right now? Can you, for one single moment, stop being my assistant? Stop treating me like I’m just another item on your to-do list?"
My heart twisted. I’d been afraid of this.
"Then tell me, Alpha Scott." I kept my voice firm. Professional. "How can you justify pulling such a crazy stunt in public?"
He whirled around. His brown eyes were wild, desperate.
"Crazy? If it were you, could you stay rational? Could you?! When the person you love suddenly marries someone else without a word?!"
I flinched. The pain in his voice was a physical thing, sharp and cutting.
I bit my lip tight. Of course I understood. When I found out Brandon was fucking my sister behind my back, when they were getting married, I was a hundred thousand times more miserable than you.
I didn’t voice these thoughts.
I wrapped my arms around myself. "Alpha Scott, We’re not meant for each other. You’re my superior at work. Outside work, we’re just friends. I’m married now. Could you please, please, stop putting me in these impossible situations?"
"Not meant for each other?" He took a step toward me. "What about Sebastian? Don’t you know what kind of person he is? What he’s done to his previous wives?"
"I know." I took a deep breath. "I know exactly who he is."
"Then why?!" His voice cracked. "Why would you still marry him if you knew? Do you think I’m that bad? Bad enough that you’d rather have someone who treats marriage like a game? Or are you just like every other woman, marrying him for his money?"
I raised my head and met his eyes. Held them for a long, painful moment.
"Yes. You’re right. That’s exactly the kind of woman I am. I always have been. So stop thinking I’m perfect."
I turned and walked away. Left him standing there by the river.
His voice followed me, broken and desperate. "Do you think saying that will make me give up on you?! If it would, I wouldn’t have loved you for this long!!"
I didn’t look back.
There’s no love in my world, only hate.
By the time I reached the pack house, my nerves were completely shot.
The front door opened before I could even reach for it.
"Emilia! You’re finally home!" Tiffany practically launched herself at me.
"Mom, Tiffany." I managed a weak smile. "I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to worry you both."
Mila appeared behind her daughter, wringing her hands. "Sebastian came stomping home two hours ago looking absolutely furious..."
"He threatened that nobody was allowed to mention your name in front of him," Tiffany cut in. "Or else he’d divorce you immediately."
My stomach dropped.
"Because of that, nobody dared ask what happened," Mila continued anxiously. "You know Sebastian’s temper. There’s no telling what he’ll do when he’s this angry."
"He’s never been this mad at any woman before," Tiffany added, looking genuinely baffled. "Never."
"It’s so worrying." Mila shook her head. "Why do you two always get into fights every time you go out together?"
Tiffany leaned in conspiratorially. "Did my brother leave you stranded on the road again?"
They kept talking, one after the other, their concerns washing over me in waves. My head was already pounding.
"Mom. Tiffany." I held up my hands, trying to stem the tide. "I’m so sorry for making you worry."
"It’s okay. We’re just glad you’re back." Mila’s eyes were soft with concern. "But... what exactly happened?"
She pointed toward the stairs. Toward Sebastian’s room.
I swallowed hard. "Is he... very angry?"
"He was furious enough that he almost took it out on me and Mom," Tiffany said immediately.
"Tiffany, don’t exaggerate." Mila shot her daughter a sharp look before turning back to me. "But honestly, Emilia... whatever happened must have been serious. I’ve seen him angry before, but never like this."
I forced another smile, though it felt like my face might crack. "Don’t worry, Mom. It’s not that big of a deal. I can handle it myself. I’ll just... go upstairs now."
I started toward the stairs.
