Chronicles of The Hardships of Komachi in The Sengoku Era
Late March 1967
I needed an address to create a family registry, but I didn't have any particular attention there, so I compiled it in simple terms.
First divide the village into four parts and wave the number 'D' on each one. In addition, divide "Ding" into four pieces and shake the number of "Number". The northeast will be the first and second place to the south and the third place to the west. Similar steps will be taken to swing the number to the southwest corner of 4th and 4th Streets.
In doing so, all villages are united in four and sixteen for "Ding". Keeping everything together makes it easier to manage.
In order to make each village more distinctive, specialties were made in each village.
The village producing 'hemp' made its name 'hemp town' and, as the name suggests, 'hemp'.
The village that produces "miso" is called "miso town", the village that produces "honey" is called "honey town", and the village close to the mountain is "mushroom town".
Shizuko's village was then named "Motomachi (Original Town)". Because the foundations that were produced in Shizuko's village were transferred to each village and distributed, the meaning of "original village" is included.
It should be noted that there is no great significance in each village because it simply has a good sense of speech.
It would have been better for Shizuko than the ex, in the village, in the town or whatever, and that would have been nice if the code to identify had been made according to the rules.
Finally, guidance signs were set up so that people such as the decree could understand the direction and so on.
This succeeded in minimizing loss such as mistakes in preaching and getting lost in the way. In addition, people in other villages were less lost, and the space for sharing about the time and space needed to ensure the transmission of information was almost achievable.
But that was all that went well, and much effort needed to be devoted to sharing perceptions of time.
It was not until after the Meiji era that the date, time, week, etc. were incorporated into the daily routine. Until then, the calendar was fragmented by the times.
For example, the main calendar used during the Warring States was the Proclamation Calendar.
However, due to the disconnection of the surveyor (Mr. Homo) who was in charge of the calendar lane, confusion has arisen over the calendar in Kyo and the region, and its own calendar (private calendar) has been used.
In the Edo period, astronomical formula (the bureau where astronomical observations were carried out) made the calendar based on astronomical observations.
In this case, since it would be good if the dates and times could be shared with the Oda family in their villages, it was decided to set the first day of January as the basis for sharing.
Even if she finds out she doesn't get an immediate understanding, Shizuko creates a calendar for sharing the month and day.
Together, the Saturday system was introduced, bringing it as close as possible to the calendar of the Gregorian calendar used by Shizuko in modern times.
I decided to cover the time with a day clock. At that time, the concept of time arose with the sunrise, and in the morning, when the sun was set in the middle of the sky, it was day, and after sunset was a great mess of nights. This is not convenient when having a rally. If the horizon is visible and no sunset can be observed even if instructed to gather at the village chief's house on the night after work, the base of the night depends on each person's subjectivity. For this reason, it takes time and is inefficient to get everyone together. In that regard, the day clock was effective in objectively defining the units of time that could be shared by all.
There are shortcomings such as the setting of the sun or the inability to grasp the time when the weather is bad, but it is necessary to "get used to it" first. Introduce it as a prototype stone to familiarize each person with the sense of unit time they can share as a stage prior to sharing the aforementioned evening rally time.
Therefore, I decided to meditate on some disadvantages.
If it was true, I wanted to make the time known by ringing the bell at regular intervals, but Nobunaga didn't give me permission.
If you ask why, 'You'll need a temple to ring the bell. So I won't allow it'.
If you do say so, Shizuko thought. And I recall: Nobunaga is atheist enough to admit to both of us.
When I say I will build a temple, it is not hard to imagine being as angry as a blaze.
Though he wondered if there was anything he could do, Shizuko complained to Nobunaga. Then it turned out to be unexpected.
Nobunaga doesn't hate Buddhism and other religions themselves.
In fact, he seems to hate corrupt boys who translate unhelpful foreign language into Japanese and think he did something big with it humanly, or who shallowlessly seek forbidden carnivores, women, and hardware behind the fact that he's making the people listen to the blue-smelling ideal theory.
So if you build a temple near Shizuko's village, you can be sure that it will flock like a hungry rat, he thought.
It would have been easy to think of measures if we had split that far.
Shizuko doesn't want to build a temple, she just needs to be able to build a bell-ringing facility.
So I advanced to Nobunaga my permission to build a shrine, not a temple. Of course, he applied not only for shrines, but also for facilities to install bells, temple-like educational facilities, accommodation, crematories, rice growing fields and small fields.
The response to that was, 'There are a few small questions, but there are no problems with the content. Thus permitting architecture'. Shizuko strokes her chest down relieved that permission had first been granted.
But her face stiffens again in one sentence that was written on the last one. Here's what it said there.
'There are several other doubts. Create an opportunity to ask them, so leave your plans open.'
Shizuko, who only sighed, but decided to keep them aside for one second.
The calendar was also set up near advertising boards and village chief's house and day clocks set up in each village as well as the village chief's house.
Calendars and day watches were set up in other places where people were likely to gather.
Until then, it was finally possible to use the circulation board used for the contact network.
Shizuko wondered how many years, days of the week, hours, addresses, telephones and emails, etc. were naturally born in a pile of failures and successes of many people in modern times.
For about a week after starting the operation of the circulation board, the villagers were puzzled by confusion about the new system, but eventually understand it as convenient in scheduling a large number of appointments. It was fast from there. The people embraced one new idea after another.
Although there is still a mistake of about an hour or two in time, there has been an extraordinary reduction in the number of miscontacts that would have caused the date to go wrong.
But the best thing is that by using circulation boards, advertising boards, etc., we can communicate information to a large number of people at once.
Instead of "communicating from person to person", because it changed to "just look at the village bulletin board", the information is no longer transformed by interpreting the message game ceremony because primary information can be obtained directly.
Still, Shizuko was anxious, so she inspected each village several times.
The contact network could not dispel the misgivings, such as whether it had been correctly transmitted or, in fact, incorrectly interpreted.
But when she understood that each village was working exactly as Shizuko thought, she exhaled, saying that her shoulder load had fallen.
Shizuko deposited the original of the family registry with Nobunaga, and decided to have the so-called copy himself.
On the other hand, there are advantages to detecting inconsistencies even if the contents are tampered with. On the other hand, there are shortcomings such as the need to update the contents twice as much as the original, which increases the amount of administrative effort. In terms of operations, the content changes for one year were summarized using wooden briefs, which were written on paper once a year and further checked to see if there were any changes other than the original of Nobunaga and the content of wooden briefs.
This made it fascinating for Nobunaga to understand the size of the village and prevent the infiltration of intermediaries, so he was able to obtain permission to use large quantities of paper.
Of course, we also received the strict order to eliminate waste as much as possible.
"Ho, is this the guy with the registry? Surely it's obvious who lives there."
Odd Maru was reading a copy of a family registry that was such a hard piece of work with such a carefree face.
Shizuko, whose painful work seemed to be treated differently, was somewhat discouraged.
But in the first place, I decided to think that the idea was that neither the transcript, nor the copy, nor the address existed in the Warring States era, so that's what it is.
"Well. Originally, with the village chief as the root, each family is divided into branches, and each person is a document for managing the information of the tree structure managed as leaves in bulk. So treat me well. If you do anything bad, the lightning will fall on you."
"That's scary. Yeah, well, let's talk before we forget. Excuse me, would you sell me some charcoal?
"Charcoal? Fine, but why again?
Shizuko tilts her neck strangely at the words of the strange circle.
Shizuko temporarily stored the logged trees from the two villages and made charcoal after drying them.
I purposefully used the corner of the village to store the wood because I wanted charcoal as fuel, of course, but I really wanted wood vinegar liquid.
In addition to being a substitute for pesticides and chemical fertilizers, wood vinegar solutions also have the effect of purifying water.
However, such effects are the result of scientific analysis. In the past, the wood vinegar liquid made during charcoal grilling was drooling in the mountain forest.
But all I can say is irony because it was drooling, because the growth of the trees was being promoted, and the water in the river was being purified.
Pesticide applications are also used as repellents against vermin and pests, fermentation enhancers for compost and deodorants for garbage disposal. We can expect deodorization, sterilization, disinfection, etc. by using it as a bathing agent as an application to improve the quality of life.
The most wood vinegar solution can vary in ingredients, and in some cases it can also be mutagenic that damages the genes of microorganisms.
It is a substitute that cannot be over-expected because it requires constant attention to handling. If it works at best, it's good to think about it to the extent that it makes money.
"Shizuko's charcoal hardly produces smoke. They're even in shape, and they're so well made. Mine's smoky, and they're in bad shape."
(That's not just incomplete combustion...)
You can't just put dried trees in the fire to make charcoal.
Even if it looks like black charcoal, it's simply oxidized, and it's not carbide like charcoal made from charcoal.
The two are just similar in appearance and the contents are different.
I wonder if the charcoal used by Odd Round is simply reusing what it's just baked, or if it's either that or the crude product that got out of hand on the way of making charcoal.
"Yeah, well, fine."
Shizuko, who thought it was okay to sell charcoal to strange circles because she could afford it there, said yes.
A little in April, Shizuko climbed the mountain to harvest something.
"Well, it's spring shiitake mushroom harvest day...... nobody's here though"
It is a spring shiitake mushroom. Originally, shiitake mushrooms are called Haruko with mushrooms that can be harvested in spring and autumn.
Haruko is enjoyed as a taste of spring because there are few types of mushrooms that occur in the early spring.
"Oh, you're growing up looking good. Hey, Cai got mad at me, so I rapidly dilated... not good enough."
Shizuko initially only intended to produce quantities to the extent of his personal consumption, and the cultivation plants were quite irrelevant.
The sun had not adjusted, besides there was no fence, so the pigs had eaten it. So although the number of logs was high, the number that was harvested was in the hundreds and dozens.
Explained scattered from the colors, Shinagawa gave her life to "increase the production of shiitake mushrooms," and finally Shizuko understood that shiitake mushrooms were a luxury product.
From there it was very painful. Large quantities of logs arrived, creating an environment for lining them up, cutting the surrounding trees to adjust the sun, or installing fences to keep more pigs out.
I decided to grow it in several blocks because I didn't think it would be a good idea to make it too dense.
Apart from Mushroom Village people, Shizuko has three shiitake mushroom cultivation blocks.
Only one thing is slightly apart but mostly dense, so pigs often come trying to eat it.
Usually it is prevented by a fence, but I have trouble getting the fence destroyed trying to force it over, so I kept some logs outside the fence for guidance.
"No... this is still small. This is OK."
Not all logged shiitake mushrooms grow. Some things are wasted, some are small and not picking time.
All diseased and other shiitake mushrooms were removed and proper holes were dug and buried there. Put anything else you can harvest in a shoulder bag made of deer leather.
The skin that accumulated every time I tailored the deer, but the skin is useless if not smoothed.
There are many different types of smoothing, but in modern times there are chromium smoothing and tannins. However, chromium meshing requires a wide variety of chemicals, so tannic meshing with white meshing and vegetable tannins using vegetable seed oil remains an option. Because vegetable seed oil has other uses, tannin plating is performed here.
At least six months from the skin to the leather, it is necessary to insert it into a tank containing vegetable tannin smoothing lysate.
In the meantime it was necessary to gradually increase the concentration of tannins.
The tannin smooth leather is somewhat handy, but although it is less stretching and elastic compared to chrome smooth leather, it is robust, flexible (easily deformable properties) and suitable for molding.
It was therefore suitable for making bags and such, and Shizuko also used leather to make shoulder bags and rucksacks.
Whatever the advantages of the bag, I can't get my hands on it, it will run out of this.
Bathrooms and the like also wrap things that are amorphous, but on the other hand, one hand gets blocked to really hold them.
Therefore, a rucksack with both hands is more convenient for mountain climbing than a bathroom.
As I was harvesting mushrooms, I heard clams and leaves rubbing behind my back.
Turning to you, there was Kaiser, Vitman, and Kanich.
All three approached her when they found Shizuko and rubbed their own bodies against her as they raised their sweet voices.
But at the same time they were wary of their surroundings to the point of excess.
…… Oh, could something have broken into the territory...?
As soon as he understood the matter, Shizuko looked around. Naturally, there is no shadow anywhere.
But from the look on the faces of the Vitmans, it is certain that someone has entered the mountains.
And I guess I went into the mountains to kick out the guy who roughs up the territory and found Shizuko along the way.
When he takes the wood Jane out of the shoulder bag, Shizuko writes a letter to Cai with charcoal.
The content reads: 'There are signs of intruders in the mountains. Ask for soldier dispatch just in case'. Bracketing it in Kanich gives him an order with a sign in sign language.
It seemed to pass well, and Kanich turned back the path he had just taken once he nodded.
Take Kaiser and Vitman. Shizuko goes for Shiitake Mushroom Field.
Spring mountain vegetables can be collected in other mountains, and there is no need to go all the way into the mountains to find them. Then Shizuko predicted that the purpose of the intruder would be the shiitake mushroom fields that exist only in this mountain.
Dried shiitake mushrooms are a major export to Ming. I can get a lot of money if I bring it back full of cages.
Shizuko, who arrived at the second shiitake mushroom field, first checked the surrounding conditions.
However, it did not look particularly rough, and there were many large growing shiitake mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms that would grow in the future.
(The second shiitake mushroom field is fine. If so, is it the third shiitake mushroom field, a short distance from here...?
Shizuko heads to the last shiitake mushroom field, which is the best of the three shiitake mushroom fields but too far from the village.
Kaiser and Vitman sneak up behind it.
Eventually Kaiser roared slightly lower when he came to the third shiitake mushroom field and the end of his eyes and nose.
Again, there is someone, that's how I understood it. Shizuko approaches me with a sneaky foothold.
Eventually they arrive at the entrance into the fence for the anti-pigs.
The entrance door should have been simple but tied with grass, but nicely slashed with sharp blades.
When Shizuko collected the grass trees nearby, she used them to curl them hard into the door and chew the bar slices to make a decision.
When she closed the only entrance and exit, Shizuko observed the outward perimeter along the fence, and wondered if this would buy her some time.
(Stay away from the danger, son. Let's see how it goes)
Kill the footsteps and Shizuko observes inside the shiitake mushroom fields. Then I saw a shadow moving with Gossogoso behind the field.
You think nobody's here and you're alarmed, the person was whining to himself.
"... an odd place. Why are they lining up the cut down trees? And this..."
Are you sinking into the sea of thought, the Lord of the Voice continues to speak to himself without any noticing the low roaring voices of the Vitmans.
Shizuko gives orders to the Vitmans to keep their voices down before observing the surroundings again.
Shizuko notices something on the nearby fence. That was a long spear classified as a large spear.
How confident are you in your arms, such as letting go of your weapon, or are you just stupid?
With that in mind, Shizuko looks further around her. Fortunately, I didn't feel any sign of anyone but the intruder.
To see Kaiser and Vitman not react, the intruder would definitely consider himself alone.
(Length about 5 to 6 meters............ that?
When I looked at the spear, something was carved into the (groove in the center of the blade).
And the moment she thought she recognized something in the pattern, a loud voice flew from far rear.
"Lord Shizuko -!!! Are you all right? - Huh!
It was the voice of Tanyu. At the same time I heard dozens of footsteps and the sound of armor scrubbing together smaller.
Probably the intruder, so he's bringing in quite a few soldiers.
And because it sounds like Shizuko, it sounds like an intruder, naturally.
"Colour!"
An intruder who was giving in reacts to his voice and rises.
I didn't see anything upsetting about the person, and I immediately returned my heel to take the spear.
Moments later, Vitman growled loudly.
"Hey, ha!
That was more of a resolute growl as if poking an ultimatum somewhere rather than wanting to bark like a dog.
Unlike dogs, wolves rarely bark.
That's because I instinctively understand that a conspicuous act of barking in living puts me in danger.
Without the howling of warnings that inform the herd of danger or the habit of howling like a nihon wolf, the wolf is basically silent.
So I guess the reason why Vitman the High Wolf barks is to tell the intruder, "I'm the opponent, I'm going to hunt you now," while at the same time informing him of the start of the fight against the herd.
Seeing that, Shizuko stands further ahead of Vitman.
She is the leader of a herd of wolves, but she was more willing to protect the Vitmans, her family, than that.
So even though I understood it as reckless, her legs moved on.
Meanwhile, because of a sudden wolf roar flying from the crossing that was outside of consciousness, the intruder stood tall and parked his legs.
And in his eyes are Shizuko, who is trembling but spreading her hands, and two giant wolves who have stripped her fangs.
Was it just unexpected on the boulder, the intruder panicked?
"Hey, hey! What the fuck!
And beyond that, the intruder could not speak.
A few arrows stood at his feet with the sound of dos sayings.
Don't move.
Because they were completely surrounded by Oda army soldiers, including Danba, who had finally arrived, over the fence.
