Chapter 75: THE SUDDEN KISSES
"They are so cute!" Seara beamed when she saw a few wild wolf pups, aside from Little Paw, Black Dot, and Spike, that were Reaper’s pups. They had grown since the last time she saw them and were almost as big as the other wolves, though they were not as big as Reaper.
Zade watched from behind; he noticed that the wolves were at ease with her, just like Reaper. Not everyone could enter the forest and step into the wild wolf territory.
Even the warriors who guarded around the residence had to take a few months, if not years, to acclimate to the wild wolves here.
Yet, Seara could do it the first try without problem.
While the wolves didn’t bother Zade because they were afraid of him, they acted docile around Seara and didn’t show any signs of aggression.
Actually, Zade was not entirely sure about exposing Seara to the wild wolves; however, after he watched his mate interact with Reaper and even Reaper brought along his pups and his mate to the bungalow, Zade became confident that Seara would be fine, and he was right about that.
"They are so small." Seara nudged the pup’s hind leg lightly. "How old are they?" The question was more for herself, since she didn’t expect Zade to take it seriously. He approached her and crouched down next to her.
"They must be less than two weeks," Zade said, as both of them crouched down at the wolf den, with the mother curled up with her pups.
"How can you tell?"
"Usually, their eyes will be open around two weeks." Zade pointed out the fact that the pups still had their eyes closed.
"How many wild wolves are here?" Seara was excited to know more.
"There are around one hundred and three, but with these two pups, it will be one hundred and five."
For Zade, there was nothing special about the wild wolves and the forest here. Most of the time, Zade only came here to run in his beast form and let off some steam because as a shifter, he had to connect with his beast form as well.
There was nothing interesting about this area, whether it was the forest, the wolves, the wolf pups, or the dead wolves. Everything was dull in Zade’s eyes.
But it was understandable. You would feel the same way if you had lived your life for a long time without experiencing anything interesting. Eventually, all the things around him lost their value.
Especially when everything is easily obtainable.
With his wealth, Zade could buy whatever, whenever he wanted. With his power, he could do anything. But there was no purpose in all of that.
Women came and went for him. There were times when he didn’t even remember with whom he had spent his night.
Everything was boring, like watching a movie, but slowly it lost its color and sound, leaving you watching moving objects.
That was how Zade perceived his life until he met Seara.
When he thought about how Seara saw her surroundings for the first time again after her imprisonment, everything suddenly held meaning again.
Even this little thing, like the new life of the pups, looked interesting.
Or probably, it was not the new life that interested Zade, but the way Seara responded to that. She was quite expressive with her feelings, as she got better.
"Hmm?" Seara widened her eyes when Zade suddenly kissed her while she was talking about naming the pups. "Do—do I talk too much?"
Seara bit her lip, thinking that Zade wanted to shut her up because she had been rambling. She was afraid she would fall back into the habit of talking to herself.
Jane mentioned this in one of their sessions. She didn’t blame her for that, though, since she knew where the habit came from.
"Of course not. I just want to kiss you." Zade lightly brushed his thumb against her lips. "So, you want to name them Misty and Ghost?"
Seara was relieved that Zade was listening to her. She had thought that she was boring him, but he didn’t show any sign of that.
"Yes, do you like the names?"
"I like you; does it count?"
Seara was speechless. Sometimes, she didn’t know how to respond when he spoke to her like that. It wasn’t that she didn’t like it. She loved it, of course, but she didn’t know how to reciprocate.
"Okay, so your name will be Misty," Seara said, pointing her finger at the grey-furred pup. "And you, Ghost." She nudged the other pup, whose fur was grey around its face, making it look as if it were wearing a mask. "Oh, I might forget if I name them all." Seara looked around at the other wild wolves.
"Do you want to put name tags on them?" It was entertaining for Zade to watch how Seara wanted to name all the other wild wolves; no one had ever thought to name them.
They only gave a name to Reaper because he was the dominant one in the pack of wild wolves; that’s why he had a name, but they didn’t do it for the other wolves.
"Zephyr will complain." Seara scrunched her nose. The royal gamma was still butthurt whenever Reaper looked docile with her and called the wolf a lapdog, even more so when Reaper bit him recently.
"I will put a name tag on him if he complains."
Hearing that, Seara laughed heartily; she couldn’t imagine how Zephyr would react if he heard about Zade’s intention to put the name tag on him.
And once again, she got a sudden kiss from Zade.
Later that night, when Zade was in the bathroom to clean himself up, Seara pulled out her book. She had written quite often; it looked a little shabby now.
Seara grabbed her pen and thought about what she wanted to write.
[Healing feels like distance sometimes, but he makes the demons go away. I love spending time with him.]
