Chapter 1418 - 712: Fame Soars
Lin Beichen listened to these words but did not care at all. He knew in his heart that he would never allow this elderly woman to join the Daoist Temple.
Once she came in, she would definitely order others around every day, and if slightly dissatisfied, she would start picking fights.
Lin Beichen saw through her mind, knowing that she had been like this before and that it would only get worse in the future.
The elderly woman’s intention was clear, she wanted to join the Daoist Temple and then exploit her old age to act recklessly. But Lin Beichen did not give her this opportunity, and she would not give up.
"I suspect you pass interviews based on your mood. Look at my age, just let me join." The elderly woman even began to plead with Lin Beichen.
"Old lady, how many times do I have to tell you, you can’t join, for you to understand?" Lin Beichen’s attitude was firm, not yielding an inch.
"If you don’t let me join today, I will stay right here and not leave. Let’s see what you can do to me. If you dare to force me out, I’ll lie on the ground, claim you bullied an elder, and ruin your reputation." With that, the elderly woman plopped down on the ground and started causing trouble.
"Everyone, come and see, Lin Beichen has no sympathy at all. I’m so old, and he won’t let me join. This is too much. That rude, foul-mouthed man got accepted, why not me? Let’s see what’s fair." The elderly woman shouted, attracting the attention of those around.
"Alas, why won’t Lin Beichen accept this elderly woman? He seems quite kind."
"Lin Beichen must have his reasons for doing this; it’s not for us to interfere."
"In my opinion, the kinder these elderly women appear, the less we should trust them. Otherwise, after being rejected by Lin Beichen, she should have left instead of causing a scene." People around discussed, agreeing with this statement.
Lin Beichen was not concerned at all about the elderly woman’s tantrum. He crossed his arms and watched to see how long she would carry on. He had plenty of time to accompany her antics.
Finally, the elderly woman could no longer stand Lin Beichen’s silence and spoke her mind: "The reason I want to join the Daoist Temple is to use my elder status to do as I please and have others do my bidding."
"You’re lying, that’s not your true intention," Lin Beichen retorted.
"If everyone doesn’t believe what I say, just look at her face. Although it appears kind, her actions don’t match her appearance. If she were truly kind-hearted, she should have left after being rejected, rather than causing trouble now." Lin Beichen’s words stirred discussions among those around about the elderly woman.
The elderly woman was shocked upon hearing this, not knowing how Lin Beichen saw through her. She had no choice but to leave sheepishly.
Others also came to understand that one cannot simply judge a person by their appearance.
A person who appears kind may not necessarily be good; someone who seems fierce may not harbor ill intentions. They might just have a straightforward, uninhibited personality, and are actually easier to get along with.
Lin Beichen taught them a lesson, making them realize that it’s a bad habit to judge people only by appearance, and they must change it now that they know.
After the elderly woman left, Lin Beichen continued the interviews. One by one, people passed the interview, and they admired Lin Beichen even more in their hearts. With just a few words and gestures, he could discern what kind of person they were.
After the interviews ended, Lin Beichen looked at the crowd and had them start counting from left to right. He wanted to know how many people were accepted in this round. Half an incense stick later, the counting was over, and there were more than a hundred people.
Lin Beichen’s expectations were completely fulfilled, and he was quite satisfied with the results.
During the interview process, he also carefully observed and remembered the names of a few promising individuals.
Li He listened as Lin Beichen mentioned those three people, reviewed them, and felt they had good prospects, and expressed his agreement.
Although the elderly woman left, her heart was full of resentment. She thought she disguised herself perfectly with a kind and amiable look, how could anyone see through the malice within?
Lin Beichen saw through her immediately, and refused her entry. She truly did not understand why Lin Beichen’s vision was so sharp.
However, leaving like this made her feel too much at a loss, having wasted so much time.
Thus, she sneaked into the Daoist Temple. The Daoist Temple was currently holding an initiation ceremony, with no one guarding the entrance, providing her an opportunity.
"I really didn’t expect the inside to be so resplendent," she exclaimed as she entered, stunned by the sight.
She yearned to join even more, but Lin Beichen’s attitude made her realize it was impossible.
The items in sight were all large, beyond her ability to carry as an elderly woman. Thus, she began wandering around, searching for small but valuable items to slip into her pockets. Her actions were undoubtedly theft, but she cared not, believing taking these things would be sufficient revenge on Lin Beichen, making her feel better.
Hu Yi happened to pass by and noticed the elderly woman’s thievery. "What are you doing here? I remember Lin Beichen didn’t accept you. What’s in your pocket? Take it out now." Hu Yi questioned and urged her to return the items.
The elderly woman was not flustered and began playing the sympathy card, "Little girl, I’m sorry, I’m forced to do this. I’m a lonely elder without relatives, wanting to join the Daoist Temple for support, but was rejected by Lin Beichen. I had no choice but to steal some things to make ends meet."
