Chapter 1395 - 700: Explaining the Origins (2)
"Hey buddy, are you from out of town?" the man asked tentatively.
Lin Beichen turned his head and glanced at him, frowning: "Why, does this concern you?"
Lin Beichen retorted directly, not bothering to engage with people who initiated random conversations.
He didn’t want to stir up trouble, so he saw no need to explain too much to these people.
Besides, he didn’t know these people, so there was no need to get too close or always oblige them.
Lin Beichen felt he was in the right, but when the other party saw his indifferent attitude,
a sudden dissatisfaction arose, glaring at Lin Beichen, deciding to teach him a lesson.
From Lin Beichen’s attire, he could tell that Lin Beichen wasn’t from Sagely Town,
but from out of town. Therefore, he wanted to seize this opportunity to humiliate Lin Beichen properly.
So, the man raised his voice and said to Lin Beichen, "What’s so great about you, acting all high and mighty? Talking to you is showing you respect; look at your attitude!"
"Do you think you’re impressive just for being here? We wouldn’t bother with you. Just from your clothing, anyone can see you’re an outsider."
"You don’t even know your own identity, flaunting around like this—are you blind or something?"
This oddly dressed man pointed and insulted Lin Beichen in public, even speaking disrespectfully, humiliating him in front of everyone.
This was entirely unexpected for Lin Beichen, who originally didn’t want to cause trouble but found trouble coming his way.
This made Lin Beichen somewhat annoyed, feeling very uncomfortable with the insults and mockery.
Lin Beichen stared intently at the man, wanting to see what he was really up to.
However, Lin Beichen noticed that aside from pointing fingers, the man seemed capable of nothing else.
Considering he had more important matters to attend to, Lin Beichen decided not to get entangled with this person and planned to leave quietly.
He had just walked a little way when someone blocked his path at the corner.
This person’s clothing resembled the previous man’s, but his demeanor was more aggressive.
Lin Beichen sized him up, trying to guess his intentions.
The man scrutinized Lin Beichen closely, then suddenly grinned: "What a heaven-sent opportunity; to pass through here, you must leave a toll."
"Otherwise, you won’t be leaving. Be smart and hand it over; out here, losing money to avert disaster is common sense."
"At the end of the day, isn’t your life worth more than money?"
The man’s implication was to threaten Lin Beichen into handing over money, or else he’d lose his life. Smart Lin Beichen had already caught onto the meaning.
Seeing these people being so brazen, Lin Beichen burned with rage.
He didn’t want to acknowledge them, so he walked straight ahead, only for the man to stand chest out, blocking his way.
He even wore a menacing face, which Lin Beichen couldn’t tolerate.
The angry Lin Beichen pulled out a talisman and directly immobilized these people,
making them unable to carry on with their misdeeds. These people, witnessing Lin Beichen’s exceptional power, felt somewhat intimidated.
Upon realizing they were immobilized by Lin Beichen’s talisman, they panicked.
"Please, hero, let us go. We were blind to offend you; please spare our lives."
"We promise never to do such a thing again. Just let us go, and we’ll agree to any condition."
Seeing these people plead desperately, Lin Beichen felt a bit softened. He didn’t aim to immobilize them but wanted to teach them a lesson.
To let them know they can’t just bully people casually.
Lin Beichen smiled slightly, looking at them and said, "Scared now? I have something even stronger; do you want to try it?"
"If you dare mess up again, I’ll deal with you. It seems you’ve been bullying people all along; if I don’t teach you properly today, you won’t know what’s wrong."
Lin Beichen deliberately intimidated them, wanting them to recognize their mistake.
These people, hearing Lin Beichen’s words, were indeed frightened.
They feared Lin Beichen applying an even more formidable skill against them and even more feared him threatening their lives, which would be too much to bear.
They were in a state of panic, looking extremely frightened.
Seeing them pleading for mercy continuously, Lin Beichen decided not to intimidate them further and so released the Body-Stabilizing Curse.
Upon regaining freedom, they were overjoyed, continuously expressing gratitude to Lin Beichen.
Lin Beichen didn’t want to hear their chit-chat, focusing solely on his tasks.
From leaving the Daoist Temple in the morning until now, Lin Beichen hadn’t eaten anything.
His stomach grumbled, and smelling a delicious aroma wafting by, he couldn’t help touching his belly.
He looked back to find a place to eat, wandering the street for a while, and finally spotted a small stall.
Lin Beichen quickly walked over and ordered a serving of hot food from the stall.
Then he sat down to eat with relish. Maybe because he was starving, Lin Beichen found this food exceptionally delicious.
Lin Beichen ate while observing the surroundings. Just then, he noticed the group of people consistently following him.
This made Lin Beichen very surprised, not knowing what their true intentions were.
Did their prior fear, immobilized by the talisman, just a disguise?
Lin Beichen didn’t think much of it and didn’t wish to argue with them.
But seeing that this group wouldn’t leave him alone, Lin Beichen felt this couldn’t go on.
He couldn’t let them follow, as he had other things to do.
Bringing these people along would be very inconvenient, so Lin Beichen shouted at them: "What are you doing? Leave now! If you follow me again, I’ll keep you immobilized here like before."
"Don’t believe me? Then try and see—I’m sure you experienced it earlier."
Lin Beichen intimidated them just to make them leave quickly, but this time, much to his surprise.
This group showed no reaction to his intimidation, still following closely.
This made Lin Beichen suspicious, examining them carefully to figure out their intentions.
Seeing these people unmoved, Lin Beichen chose not to linger, hurriedly finishing his meal, and resumed his journey.
In this place called Sagely Town, Lin Beichen found everything both novel and bizarre.
Along the way, he encountered many previously unseen, incredibly peculiar occurrences.
Watching the bustling crowd on the street, various trades, and the constant calls and chatter, Lin Beichen deeply felt life’s challenges.
People were striving to survive, and this resilience moved him deeply.
While wandering down the street, Lin Beichen came across several beggars. Their clothes were tattered, faces filthy, and eyes eager.
Seeing them following behind him, continuously begging, Lin Beichen felt a surge of compassion.
He couldn’t bear seeing them in such a pitiful state, so he took out some money and handed it to these beggars.
Providing them a chance to buy some food to satisfy their hunger was all Lin Beichen could do for them.
Beyond that, he didn’t know how to help further.
The beggars received Lin Beichen’s loose change, kneeling in gratitude. This scene saddened Lin Beichen greatly.
He hadn’t expected that some people had such difficult lives that they had to resort to street begging.
Lin Beichen’s kindness quickly spread throughout the town, with people feeling awe towards him.
However, Lin Beichen did these deeds not for the townspeople’s admiration but out of genuine kindness.
He merely wanted to help those struggling to live, helping them live a little better.
Seeing their sallow and thin faces starved of food, Lin Beichen couldn’t bring himself to leave.
Especially when he saw some beggars with children, he felt even more compassionate.
He would look upon them a little longer, offering more assistance, not wanting the children to suffer with them.
The townspeople were filled with curiosity and awe towards this kind-hearted man, trying various ways to inquire about Lin Beichen’s background.
Lin Beichen openly shared his story with them, letting the townspeople know he meant no harm.
He came here for important matters, not with ill intentions.
