Chapter 1412 - 709: Exposing the Truth
Until this moment, Hu Yi finally understood everything. Both Lin Beichen and Hu Yi could comprehend the old man’s concerns.
After agreeing on matters with the old man, Lin Beichen prepared to leave his house, planning to stroll around the village to carefully investigate the terrain and the specific situation here. The village was located in a low-lying area, surrounded by mountains, and the environment wasn’t very favorable.
While examining the terrain in the village, Lin Beichen encountered some hostile individuals. They were extremely dissatisfied with the presence of Lin Beichen and Hu Yi, even making rude remarks, believing they were deceiving the villagers and now wanting to build a Daoist Temple, which was simply a disturbance in the villagers’ lives, causing them great resentment.
Lin Beichen didn’t care about this; no matter what others said, he remained indifferent, wholly focused on his own matters. This puzzled Hu Yi, who was upset by these people’s attitudes, and she asked Lin Beichen in bewilderment: "Master, look at their attitude, aren’t we here to help? Why are they treating us this way?"
"Do you still want to continue helping and really not care about this? I feel uncomfortable inside."
"Why are they behaving like this? We haven’t asked them for anything, and if they don’t welcome us, fine, but they still hurt us this way. How can these people be so unfriendly?"
Listening to Hu Yi’s complaints, Lin Beichen understood her feelings, as these people were somewhat excessive. But Lin Beichen felt this was not surprising, for when traveling far, people’s hearts were unpredictable, and all kinds of people were out there. Encountering such situations was something he was long used to.
He smiled and comforted Hu Yi: "Don’t take it to heart. They have too much pent-up dissatisfaction; some matters aren’t intended for us. You should understand, if you don’t care about these things, they cannot hurt you."
After advising Hu Yi, Lin Beichen walked over to the villagers and earnestly said, "We came here today entrusted by others, wanting to help you all, without any malice, and we won’t cause any inconvenience to your lives. You don’t need to treat us this way."
"We’re merely passing through, serendipitously becoming acquainted with you. There’s no need to vent all your grievances upon us. Life is unpredictable, but as long as you maintain good intentions, everything will proceed smoothly. However, if you constantly complain, I believe your journeys will be more difficult."
Patiently counseling them, Lin Beichen spoke at length, hoping they would harbor kind intentions. Hu Yi also benefited, finally understanding Lin Beichen’s purpose. He wasn’t trying to please anyone but fulfilling his mission and desire.
After surveying the terrain, Lin Beichen said to Hu Yi: "Let’s head back, no need to look further. I have a sense of what’s going on; I don’t want to waste time here."
Hu Yi silently followed behind Lin Beichen, curious at heart but asked no further questions. On their way back, they noticed something strange. When villagers saw them, their expressions became tense, even somewhat fearful.
Hu Yi wanted to approach them and inquire, but the villagers avoided them, leaving Lin Beichen and Hu Yi shocked.
"Master, what’s wrong with them? It’s like they saw a ghost. Are we that frightening? Why has their attitude suddenly changed so much?" Hu Yi asked in surprise.
Lin Beichen also found it odd. He looked at Hu Yi and said: "Something must have happened, otherwise people wouldn’t suddenly behave like this. Let’s hurry and take a look."
Saying this, the two rushed towards the village, sensing something amiss, and followed the villagers to investigate what had transpired after they left.
However, the scene before them left Lin Beichen and Hu Yi incredulous. The old man who had just spoken to them was now lying lifeless inside his house.
Nervously looking at Lin Beichen, Hu Yi asked: "Master, what is going on? Wasn’t he fine when we left? How did he suddenly die? This is so strange!"
Aghast, Hu Yi suddenly realized the villagers’ panicked expressions upon seeing them earlier were due to their suspicion of Lin Beichen. The villagers believed the old man’s sudden death was related to Lin Beichen. Given the current situation, the suspicion indeed pointed at Lin Beichen, as the old man had been healthily standing before them when they last met.
But shortly after their departure, the old man passed away, naturally inciting the villagers to suspect them, as is human nature, since no one knew the truth or understood what had happened. Hu Yi herself was puzzled, wondering how something like this could happen; the old man was perfectly fine when they left.
Unable to understand, Hu Yi whispered in Lin Beichen’s ear: "Master, these people are all suspecting you, thinking you did it. What should we do now? We can’t just bear this unfounded accusation, can we? This is a matter of life and death, you need to figure out a way!"
"You have to explain clearly to everyone, don’t let them misunderstand us, right now they’re reacting like we’re beasts or a flood, avoiding us."
Listening to Hu Yi’s words, Lin Beichen, however, seemed unhurried, not anxious at all. This astonished Hu Yi even more, wondering what could be going on in Lin Beichen’s mind. Could it be that Lin Beichen had already discovered some clue? But no matter what, at this crucial moment, he should defend himself and explain clearly to everyone.
Yet, Lin Beichen continued to stare at someone, from the moment he arrived here, his gaze hadn’t left the village head, Wu Dazhu. Observing Wu Dazhu, Lin Beichen noted his tense expression, as if concealing something from everyone.
