Fire precautions
Time rolls back, it will be May 7th.
Oddly enough, this was my 16th birthday, but there was a little incident that night at the Ostomark Imperial Army Crosno Guard garrison and the Crosno branch of the Home Office High Police (officially named Oi) outside Crosno town.
I woke you up.
---
22: 40.
Good kids are bedtime, but I'm a bad kid today, no problem.
"Um... Captain, are you sure you want to do this?
"Excuse me. I can't think of any other way."
I am now about to break into the Imperial Army Crosno garrison without authorization. Imperial law? What can you eat that for?
Well, if they find out, they'll definitely kill you instantly, but we'll do well there. I'm a soldier, I have to take some risks. If you go into a tiger hole, I'll tell you what's going on.
Besides, after looking into it over the past few days, the garrison security was an out-of-the-box monkey, one or two of whom wouldn't have to find out.
"Mr. Fine. Stand by outside as maneuvered. So when things happen..."
"I know. More than that, come back safely."
"Naturally."
Well, let me explain this operation.
This Crosno garrison, of course, is under the jurisdiction of the military. Naturally, the same can be said of the Crosno branch of the High Police Department of the Ministry of the Interior, which is located in the garrison, but as I said before, it has extraterritorial jurisdiction. Under normal circumstances, the military may not enter the premises of the High Police Department without permission.
Yes, in normal times.
In other words, military authority takes precedence in matters of concern. I guess this is natural. If a civil servant in the Ministry of the Interior moves in the middle of a war, he won't if he doesn't want to.
This is stipulated in Article 15-2 of the Special Law on Imperial War, apparently. Regardless, this information was given to me by Mr. Fine. I mean, Mr. Feene, you're not gonna tell me you remember the full Imperial Law, are you?
... Yeah, let's not think about this any more. I'm scared of something, Mr. Feene. What do you mean, you can treat yourself incompetent with that memory?
Anyway, if anything happens, the high police officers in Crosno will be under the command of the military.
So, something happens, but the provisions are vague about this.
The previous Imperial War Special Law stipulated "Hazardous = When the life and property of a state or region, a people, or others, such as war, are endangered". Incidentally, in bureaucratic terms, "other" or "etc." means "all".
Well, I mean, to sum up, "If the army says' Yes', it's 'Yes', so silly!". I prescribed it in a long legal sentence. Doesn't make any sense. Oi.
That's why I'm sneaking in to do that "thing" now.
Yeah, what a real spy movie to break into a military establishment in another country and do something bad. I have to check if the weight sensor is planted on the floor......
22: 50.
Stealing his eyes, he finally reached the area around his destination as he made his way to the wall. It's an improvised detention facility at the Crosno branch of the High Police Department of the Ministry of the Interior.
There are 10 jail windows. I mean, there are 10 rooms. Everything is in solitary confinement, which means that the Crosno branch can accommodate only 10 people. I don't know if that's what you call a police lockup, but in Crosno's case, it seems so. Well, the High Police Department is for political prisoners, and I guess the detention center for ordinary criminals is fine because the guards have something else.
So, maybe Jin Berkson is still in that place. This is also what I found out after a few days of research.
The entry and exit of supplies and personnel in the garrison is under the jurisdiction of the military. They can naturally thoroughly investigate the carriage at the High Police Department with measures to prevent spies like me from being distracted and sneaked into the carriage, brought in dangerous goods, or even brought up on their own confidential military documents.
"You're a secret police officer, but you're an intelligence gabba! I don't think so, but at this point, it's salvation.
One month after Jin Berkson was detained, there was no information that the arrests had come out of the garrison. This was also examined by Mr. Fine. No, it's really scary...
Well, I don't know what to do.
My purpose now (...) is to make things happen in the garrison, not the abduction of Jin Berkson. The problem is what happens... it's easier to understand.
If you're talking about a fire, it's easy for Mr. Fine waiting outside to tell, and the guard's human being might go to the fire and miss me.
I think so and get ready to chant quickly. I want to burn it flashy, so let's use the fire-based intermediate magic "Gun Bullet (Ignis Cannon)" this time.
When, the guard man approached me. Oh, shit!
"Hey, was anybody there?
"Hmm? Really?
Deny it there, Scapontan! Finding me here won't change my salary, so miss it!
Um, what am I supposed to do at times like this? You'll find me hiding in the shadows like this... Oh, yeah. All you have to do is imitate the sound of a cat! What an idiot! You'll soon find out where the cat sounds imitation was done by humans!
... Wait?
Wouldn't it be nice if we found out?
Sneaking a sneak peek, there's still a lot between us and the outpost. If I shoot artillery shells here (Ignis Cannon) and say something about an "arsonist breaking in," it's easy for Mr. Feene to understand, and I'll get away with it, and I won't be able to complain to anyone at the high police station.
... but my legs tremble when I have to. Is it because I recognize it as a "bad thing", unlike before?
Distracted by the footsteps of the approaching outpost, I take a deep breath. Hih, hih, hoo. Hih, hih, hoo.
All right, let's do it.
Finishing the chant, the palms are lit with bright lights. Even the magic of intermediate magic has natural luminescence phenomena, which struck me strangely.
After that, keep breathing with your enemies...
"Hey, I knew there was someone out there. Shouldn't we call for backup?
"Do that. What if it's a misunderstanding? It's not too late for us to check."
Unfortunately, it's too late, you two. Enemy, I guess? It's the sentry's job to report it as soon as you think so. Don't be alarmed just because this place is peaceful.
Please accept this as a tuition fee.
"Artillery shell (ignis cannon)!"
