Cultivation: Immunity to Negative Effects

Chapter 195: The Cultivators Doubting Life

Generally, the Demon Beasts and Demons within the Demon Abyss aren’t a united front. They are split into many different species, and it’s quite common for them to devour and fight one another.

But during a Demon Tide, these Demonized Beasts and Demons stop all infighting and focus solely on attacking human Cultivators.

So, something was clearly wrong with the current situation.

"Excellent!"

"Whatever the reason, we have to seize this chance! Kill all these Demon Beasts and Demons!"

The Cultivators snapped back to their senses and roared their approval.

With their morale soaring, they quickly pressed their advantage.

"Oh no! That monstrous bird and the other creature are heading for Divine Needle Peak!" Qin Susu suddenly cried out in alarm.

"Damn it!"

The other Cultivators were all startled, and Shangguan Hui’s face fell.

Only then did they notice that the monstrous bird, fleeing blindly in its panic, had flown straight into the narrow gap between Lin Yuan Peak and Demon Suppression Peak.

Under normal circumstances, Demons and Demon Beasts would ignore that gap, even with the human Cultivators stationed on the two peaks.

"You all carry on! I’m going to check it out!"

Shangguan Hui made her decision in an instant.

Even though Divine Needle Peak had its Grand Array and Zhang Chi had the Puppet she’d given him, she was still clearly worried.

The terrifying power displayed by the humanoid monster, in particular, made even her heart pound with fear.

She couldn’t even get a clear look at its appearance; the only thing she could be sure of was that it was incredibly powerful.

Judging by its aura, it was only at the Tier Three Early Stage.

This meant that the quality of its Demon Pill was likely Upper Grade; otherwise, it couldn’t possibly be so strong.

However, just as she was flying toward Divine Needle Peak, she suddenly saw the humanoid monster flying back out of the pocket-like area between the peaks.

Shangguan Hui braced herself as if for a great battle, gritting her teeth and refusing to retreat.

But the humanoid monster only glanced at her before suddenly changing course, flying around her and toward the nearby Demon Suppression Peak.

’What’s going on?’

Shangguan Hui was dumbfounded.

At the same time, she heaved a sigh of relief, only then realizing her back was soaked with cold sweat.

"Senior Sister, what’s wrong?"

Just then, a voice came from behind her. It was Qin Susu, who had caught up.

In truth, she had left at nearly the same time as Shangguan Hui; her lower Cultivation just meant she was slower.

As a Foundation Establishment Cultivator, she should have addressed Shangguan Hui as "Senior Aunt," but because of her relationship with Zhang Chi, she usually just called her "Senior Sister."

"I’m fine. That humanoid monster flew off to Demon Suppression Peak. It passed by me just now but didn’t attack. I don’t know why, but I suspect it might be here to help us."

Shangguan Hui snapped out of her daze and replied at once.

She frowned slightly as she looked at Qin Susu. She wanted to tell her to go back, but ultimately held her tongue.

"What about the monstrous bird?"

Qin Susu, however, wasn’t particularly concerned about the humanoid monster’s origins.

"It must have entered Divine Needle Peak. Come on, I’ll take you, but don’t do anything reckless when we get there."

"Don’t worry, Senior Sister. I understand."

With a wave of her hand, Shangguan Hui took Qin Susu with her, and they flew toward Divine Needle Peak with incredible speed.

At this moment, even from a great distance, she could clearly see that Divine Needle Peak’s Grand Array had been fully activated.

The monstrous birds, however, were nowhere to be seen; they could only hear waves of roaring.

Clearly, they were inside the Array.

But before the two of them could get close, the roaring stopped, and the Array’s operation slowed down.

"Oh no!"

"Senior Brother, he..."

The two of them paled in horror, instantly struck by an ominous feeling.

The next moment, a gateway opened in the Array, and a tall, imposing Cultivator flew out. It was Zhang Chi.

Not only was Zhang Chi alive, but he didn’t have a single scratch on him.

"What are you two doing here? Have the monsters on the front line retreated?" Zhang Chi asked, a look of confusion on his face.

"You’re alright? What about those two Tier Three monstrous birds?" Shangguan Hui and Qin Susu asked in unison.

"They’re dead. Or rather, I used the Array to kill them. I have to say, Senior Sister, the Tier Three Puppet you gave me is incredibly useful. Combined with the Array and a Tier Three Spirit Talisman, killing those birds was a piece of cake."

Zhang Chi smiled, looking completely at ease.

"You..."

Shangguan Hui and Qin Susu were both stunned.

They clearly never imagined this would be the outcome.

But Zhang Chi stepped aside, and they immediately saw the enormous corpses of the two monstrous birds, blood still pooling beneath them.

"Alright, then I’m off to support Demon Suppression Peak!"

Though still utterly astonished, Shangguan Hui no longer had any doubts. She let out a sigh of relief and, without another thought for Qin Susu, flew directly toward Demon Suppression Peak.

"Senior Brother..."

Qin Susu immediately threw herself into Zhang Chi’s arms.

Meanwhile, Shangguan Hui quickly arrived at Demon Suppression Peak, only to find the situation there was already under control.

After asking Li Ruohai, she learned that only a single Tier Three Early Stage Demonized Beast—a giant ape—had appeared. Li Ruohai, being a battle maniac, had charged right out of the Grand Array to fight it.

Just as the two were locked in a stalemate, the humanoid monster had suddenly rushed out and launched a sneak attack, killing the Black Ape with a single punch before snatching its corpse and leaving.

Li Ruohai had wanted to give chase, but considering the overall battle was still undecided and the opponent was too powerful, he’d had to give up.

With the Tier Three Black Ape gone, Li Ruohai and the other Cultivators had quickly stabilized the situation.

Before Shangguan Hui’s arrival, Li Ruohai and the others had all been wondering just who—or what—that humanoid monster was.

"You encountered it over on your side, too?"

Shangguan Hui immediately explained the situation at Lin Yuan Peak, leaving everyone even more surprised.

"What? Junior Brother Zhang killed two Tier Three Demonized Beasts using the Grand Array, a Puppet, and a Spirit Talisman?"

When they heard what had happened at Divine Needle Peak, they were even more dumbfounded. Everything that had happened tonight felt completely unreal.

Afterwards, they all continued to defend against the Demon Tide. It wasn’t until the latter half of the night, when the tide suddenly weakened, that they could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

At dawn, the Cultivators who had survived the calamity broke out in cheers, while Li Ruohai and the others flew to Divine Needle Peak once more.

A moment later, gazing at the corpses of the monstrous birds, the group fell into a stunned silence.

"So, let me get this straight. We fought our asses off all night and didn’t manage to kill a single Tier Three Demon Beast or Demon, but Junior Brother Zhang killed two at once without even leaving his post?"

Li Ruohai and the others were starting to question their entire existence.

"Haha, it was just luck. Those two monstrous birds seemed to be heavily injured already. It must have been the work of that humanoid monster you were talking about. Strictly speaking, I just cleaned up the leftovers!" Zhang Chi said with a modest laugh.

"So that’s what happened!"

Hearing his explanation, the matter finally seemed a bit more reasonable to them, and they couldn’t help but envy Zhang Chi’s good fortune.

But they didn’t underestimate Zhang Chi in the slightest. The sheer courage it took to let those monstrous birds into his Array was far beyond that of any ordinary person.

Even if the birds were heavily injured, the fact that Zhang Chi could leverage his advantages to kill them already set him far apart from the average person.

Of course, what they didn’t know was that the humanoid monster was actually Corpse Puppet No.1, which Zhang Chi had released from an underground passage when he saw the situation turning dire.

Although those Demon Beasts and Demons were all Tier Three, they were only at the False Core Early Stage. Naturally, they were no match for Corpse Puppet No.1.

The monstrous birds hadn’t actually been injured, but once they entered the Grand Array and were suppressed by its power, they were of no consequence to him.

He used the Tier Three Puppet to tie down one of them, then activated his Asura Blood Burning Technique and Celestial Net Evil Body and unleashed a savage beating on the other, finishing it off in an instant.

Afterward, he and the Puppet worked together to easily dispatch the remaining bird.

The process was so fast that Corpse Puppet No.1 wasn’t even needed, which was why he had sent it to aid Demon Suppression Peak.

"Everyone, this is bad!"

Everyone was still celebrating their survival. But just then, Li Ruohai suddenly received a message, and his face instantly fell.
