Chapter 1023: My Stomach Isn’t Very Good
Li Xiaoyun hurried to use these 5 minutes to do her makeup.
After all, she had never appeared bare-faced in front of Zhao Dingli.
Moreover, she was going to work soon, so she definitely needed to wear makeup.
Instead of making Zhao Dingli wait, she might as well take this opportunity to quickly finish her makeup.
She only had five minutes, so she didn’t use foundation, but just applied the cushion a few times.
Luckily, her face didn’t have much discoloration, so she didn’t need concealer.
The cushion was enough to brighten and even out her skin tone.
Then she applied some loose powder and did her eyebrows and lipstick.
Seeing she had one minute left, Li Xiaoyun chose a bean paste-colored single eyeshadow and casually swept it twice over her eyelids.
She drew an eyeliner line and applied mascara, and she was done.
She didn’t apply blush.
Recently, her complexion was good, and although she used the cushion, her cheeks still showed a healthy glow.
Just as she finished these tasks, the doorbell rang.
Li Xiaoyun quickly went to the door.
On the intercom screen appeared Zhao Dingli’s face.
Li Xiaoyun opened the door and told Zhao Dingli it was already open.
Zhao Dingli also heard the "beep" sound of the door opening.
Then he came in.
Li Xiaoyun kept the monitoring peephole on her door open.
Seeing Zhao Dingli coming out of the elevator from the screen, Li Xiaoyun quickly opened the door and waited at the entrance.
Before Zhao Dingli entered, he saw her and smiled first.
After inviting him in, Li Xiaoyun said, "Breakfast is ready; I just need to fry an egg, you can wash your hands and wait."
From the last instruction, Zhao Dingli sensed a bit of domesticity.
Zhao Dingli happily went to wash his hands.
When he finished, he saw a plate of sandwiches cut into triangles on the dining table.
Turning his head, Li Xiaoyun was frying eggs in the kitchen.
There were hissing sounds from the oil.
"Do you like them fully cooked or runny yolk?" Zhao Dingli heard Li Xiaoyun ask.
"I like them with runny yolks," Zhao Dingli replied.
Li Xiaoyun thought it was such a coincidence, as she did too.
Fully cooked, especially both sides, she wasn’t really good at that.
"Did you just make these sandwiches?" Zhao Dingli was pleasantly surprised.
"..." At that moment, Li Xiaoyun finished frying the egg too.
The runny half-cooked egg didn’t require long frying time, so it was fast.
For simple things like this, Li Xiaoyun was proficient and didn’t need to consult Ye Fei specifically.
Li Xiaoyun plated the fried egg and brought it out while saying, "I usually just buy ready-made sandwiches or rice balls at the convenience store, so I don’t have ingredients at home."
"So, when you messaged me earlier, I went to the supermarket across the apartment. Buying ready-made ones tastes similar to making them myself, so I just bought them ready-made."
Li Xiaoyun felt Zhao Dingli seemed to prefer homemade items, so she busily pushed the fried egg toward him, "But the fried egg is made by me, you saw it."
Zhao Dingli chuckled, "Yes."
"Do you want milk or coffee?" Li Xiaoyun asked again, "If it’s coffee, there’s coffee powder and a coffee machine at home, don’t worry it’s not instant."
Zhao Dingli chuckled, wondering what gave Li Xiaoyun the impression he didn’t drink instant coffee?
"I don’t have high demands for coffee; I drink quality ones but also instant," Zhao Dingli laughed, "but I’ll have milk instead."
"Alright." Li Xiaoyun then poured a glass of milk for each of them, "I thought you’d prefer coffee."
"My stomach isn’t very good; drinking coffee during breakfast, even though not on an empty stomach, feels uncomfortable. Especially when working during the day, I drink quite a bit of coffee. If I don’t, I can’t keep my energy up, and if I drink too much, I get nauseous. So I’ve always tried to control it," Zhao Dingli said.
Li Xiaoyun could imagine how busy Zhao Dingli was.
During working hours, he must be busy, without a moment’s rest.
High-intensity work for even just eight hours is extremely exhausting.
Not to mention, Zhao Dingli definitely works more than eight hours.
Knowing he drank so much coffee he’d get nauseous showed his body was pushed to its limits.
But Zhao Dingli’s work was so busy, she couldn’t say much to persuade him.
What could she say?
Don’t drink so much coffee and take care of your stomach.
But he works so hard; without coffee, he couldn’t manage, and most caffeinated drinks are taxing on the body.
Switching them would still be detrimental to health.
Knowing he’s busy and relies on coffee, advising not to drink so much seems patronizing.
Because drinking is a necessity, not a preference.
Saying such things would just make things difficult for him.
Li Xiaoyun sighed, not knowing what else to say.
Looking at the cold milk in front of her, Li Xiaoyun said, "Let me warm up the milk for you, it’ll be gentler on your stomach."
Unexpectedly, Zhao Dingli refused again, "I like it cold. Hot milk is too strong in flavor, cold is better."
Li Xiaoyun thought to herself, this man is quite picky.
"Do you only drink coffee to stay awake? How much do you drink before getting nauseous?" asked Li Xiaoyun.
"I basically get nauseous after the second cup," Zhao Dingli smiled, "when I was younger, I relied on youth and didn’t care about my body, thinking it didn’t matter. So then I drank strong black coffee with little milk, and sugar."
"Because I drank it too strong for years, my body started to rebel. Now I can’t drink such strong black coffee anymore. I’ve switched to coffee with milk and sugar now," Zhao Dingli said, "the more milk and sugar, the more comfortable I feel drinking."
"So I say, I also drink instant coffee. Normally I have one freshly brewed coffee and then some black tea. In the afternoon, I switch to drinking an instant cup followed by black tea. This way my stomach can handle it," Zhao Dingli explained.
Li Xiaoyun just realized it’s no wonder Zhao Dingli always has tea at home, especially black tea varieties.
Li Xiaoyun regretted profoundly, "Had I known earlier, I’d have bought some hot porridge."
She didn’t know how to cook it herself and didn’t have rice at home.
But the convenience store has it.
The cup variety, just heat it, and it’s ready.
"This is just fine," Zhao Dingli said, "my stomach isn’t that fragile."
"What do you usually have for breakfast?" Li Xiaoyun asked.
"I don’t prepare anything either; I don’t know how to either. Like you, I buy sandwiches and such," Zhao Dingli said.
