Chapter 1422 - 1421: Exposure
Before the motorcade left the FBI headquarters, a phone call was made internally.
Due to the quick connect and disconnect, no one listened in on the content of the call, but the person who made the call was identified—a special agent from the FBI Headquarters.
When the Director General kicked open the door to the office, the special agent sat quietly behind the desk.
On the desk was his handgun, along with his credentials; he was ready for arrest.
The Director General looked at him, then glanced at the sign hanging on the door, which made him very angry.
This was an Action Director, simply put, he was a mid-level personnel mainly responsible for field tasks.
From planning the tasks, selecting personnel, drawing up plans to completing the mission, cleaning up the aftermath, tidying up the scene, to finally returning to headquarters to submit the report, he served as the actual highest responsible person.
If there were no accidents, this Director might have the chance of becoming a Director in a certain region in a few years, or getting promoted to a higher administrative position in the headquarters.
But it was this mid-level official with such a promising future in the FBI Headquarters who decided to betray the FBI.
"Why?" The Director General asked him, though he already had an answer in his heart.
He just hoped that the person in front of him would give a more suitable excuse, such as saying he was coerced, which would make him feel better.
The investigator behind the desk didn’t speak, just like he initially calmly observed everything.
He knew he couldn’t escape after making the call and once the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a department not originally part of the Federation Government, began participating in the FBI’s disciplinary clearance issues, he knew there was no escaping.
But he didn’t care. Even though he would lose his job and likely go to prison due to certain charges, the Duncan Clan would deposit a large sum in his offshore account.
A sum of money he couldn’t earn even in a lifetime of full-bonus outdoor missions, a sum that enabled him to give up his job and cut ties with his past!
Sometimes, the power of money is truly great!
Meanwhile, the Duncan Clan started making arrangements, and their ace team targeted the second batch of cars coming out of the Investigation Bureau.
They believed this convoy had a high probability, with no scientific basis, just a strong intuition.
The uncertain route made it impossible for the ace team to prepare ahead; Darkstone Security established internal security measures but was not an absolute route.
Essentially, they could freely adjust the direction within this general area, like orbiting around the city center, where the result needed was a roundabout, not a specific road circuit.
Without an accurate route, constant direction changes, eventually the ace team had no patience to guess anymore.
They took direct action!
At that moment, a large truck filled with water tanks suddenly "lost control" and blocked the middle of the road.
The roads of Bupen are always packed with dense traffic; instantly, the traffic halted, and a group of masked, well-armed combat teams began advancing toward the target, sparking a battle.
The intense gunfire sent innocent civilians panicking and hiding; this was Bupen—the center of Federation politics, economy, and culture—although this city had some violent incidents before.
But these violent incidents never reached today’s scale, with people wielding automatic weapons in broad daylight engaging in organized warfare.
This was no mere violent incident; it was fundamentally a military conflict!
The battle, right from the start, heated up; Darkstone Security’s elite response and coordination kept them from being suppressed.
These individuals were field personnel experienced in overseas wars and armed conflicts; they weren’t mere buds nurtured in greenhouses.
The bullets whizzed by with a xiu-xiu sound, making some field personnel instinctively excited!
Since the military orders decreased, these people cherished those times immensely.
Standing amidst the smoke and artillery, using the weapons in their hands to defeat one strong enemy after another!
Now, that feeling was back!
"Enemy attack!"
"Organized defense, prepare to counterattack!"
"Request support..."
Whether they could win or not was one issue, whether to request support was another.
In Darkstone Security’s employee handbook, marked with red, was a notice:
"In any event of an attack or armed conflict, the first action is to request support..."
Lynch invested tens of thousands in each employee; these personnel were among his most valuable assets, losing any would be a major loss.
The importance of "veterans" wasn’t just in their proficient combat skills, but also in the ability to instantly form a new unit with a few veterans and some recruits!
These individuals are future officers and leaders!
The battle erupted quickly, with high-intensity crossfire, with no thoughts of conserving ammunition; both sides would fire full force at any opportunity.
Simultaneously, several other convoys were also attacked!
The entire Bupen instantly descended into chaos, gunfire erupted everywhere, the Police Station’s phones were flooded, and some people feared that enemies had invaded Bupen, believing the Federation was doomed!
However, those knowing the inside story were amazed that the Duncan Clan was truly insane, starting such a large-scale military operation in Bupen without giving themselves any way out from the start.
The firefight lasted about ten minutes or so, shorter than anticipated; apart from a few "mysterious attackers" who temporarily escaped, most were killed on site.
Darkstone Security once again demonstrated their fearsome combat power, proving to everyone that in military operations, they were the professionals!
Finally, the convoy continued on, and Horn White was safely delivered into military custody.
Simultaneously, City Hall, the State Government, and Federation Government each held news conferences to explain today’s events.
At the news conference at President’s Mansion, the President didn’t attend; instead, their spokesman, a beautiful female press officer, addressed the press.
She spoke with a serious tone, revealing the core reasons behind the armed conflicts:
"Horn White, a crucial player in the Paradise Island case, has surrendered."
"He has disclosed many shocking internal details and personnel lists, and these people and their backing powers refuse to face failure, attempting through abnormal methods to alter the inevitable outcomes!"
"No matter what they do, they will not succeed, for justice will eventually defeat evil..."
The contents of the news conference, once broadcasted, immediately stirred the entire Federation, alongside this event, bringing the Paradise Island case to light.
Prior to this, most people, or rather, almost everyone was oblivious to Paradise Island and the events occurring there.
They simply assumed it was a place for the wealthy to enjoy, but with the armed conflict in Bupen, people began understanding the reality!
Once certain information began to be made public, everyone was shocked!
In such a civilized society, there was an evil group hidden away, unbelievable and horrendous.
Victim testimonies on television made people’s hair stand on end.
Especially a victim named Mrs. Klein, who left people questioning what was happening in this world.
This Mrs. Klein fell victim due to various reasons, mostly economic, and was taken to the island.
On the island, she was reduced to a mere servant’s status, with those frightening people destroying her dignity and will through awful means, transforming her into a plaything at their disposal.
Many such people were on the island. Some, like Mrs. Klein, faced multiple pressures that forced them onto the island, hoping to change their present circumstances.
Others were kidnapped onto the island, suffering even greater abuse; some couldn’t endure the many tortures and ultimately died on the island.
A vast amount of textual and graphical introductions fermented societal opinion, increasing the growing number of petitions to expose the masterminds behind Paradise Island.
By this point, almost everyone understood that the Duncan Clan had no chance left for a comeback.
In November, Bupen’s temperature dropped significantly, passersby wore thick clothes, occasionally spotting people carrying banners walking in the streets.
These were petitioners for the Paradise Island case, with many being relatives of the victims.
Mr. Klein was one such person; when he learned his wife hadn’t disappeared but was deceived onto Paradise Island, he immediately abandoned his usual drunkard demeanor, brushing up himself to actively join similar activities.
His thoughts were actually quite simple; since his wife was a victim, he had the right to receive compensation from this case.
For him, nothing was more important at this moment than the compensation.
Of course, casually bringing back his wife, who had developed some mental illness, back.
Some kind-hearted individuals even rented them a warm house.
However, there were also reports indicating that sometimes slightly... suspicious individuals frequented that house, causing some curiosity, as these individuals didn’t look like lawyers or government officials, but more like... women of the night.
Though this was merely speculation, it was someone else’s family business not worth intervening, leaving it unresolved.
During this increasingly cold time, Chris’s husband encountered some troubles.
