Chapter 85: Moon
There was a change to Cillian’s usual schedule.
In the morning, he was supposed to train at the Training Mall until the evening, whenever he didn’t have a consultation session with Arthur. However, he had to postpone his training after talking with Mouthful Eye the previous day.
Well, it was some sort of Cillian listening to gibberish.
Judging by how the Mouthful Eye, Aiden, had acted the previous day, it seemed like he knew something about Arthur. However, all Cillian could hear were Aiden’s censored words.
-"It’s a ***!"
-"What, you don’t understand the word ***? They also put a restriction on this word?"
That was how their conversations went most of the time. They tried to be smart about their approach, with Cillian suggesting that they communicate through signs. However, the Mouthful Eye felt pain every time he attempted to do so, that forced Cillian to stop trying it.
It seemed that doing ’something’ that might expose the censored word was ingrained even into his consciousness. However, Cillian didn’t know the scope of this ’something’. That was why he was going to try a different method. It’s no different from the time when Aiden wanted to tell him any kind of information from the first time they met.
’What a fascinating power, to be honest. Even I am shocked at how the hell they are doing it. That organization is giving me the feels every time.’
Cillian mused inwardly before looking up at the top of the building, then lowering his gaze to the entrance. It was the nearest library.
This was the change to his usual schedule.
If the first method of trying to determine the word that could be a clue didn’t work, Cillian might as well try reading and find it out himself.
He was the one who suggested it with Mouthful Eye.
By doing this, Cillian might find the scale of the ’restrictions’ and discover their loopholes. He would try to exploit them as much as possible, hoping that he could get something out of it.
It had been a long time since he had received any new information. The last time he had fallen into this kind of slump was back when he was still on Earth.
Cillian smiled excitedly.
’Let’s see what you are, Arthur.’
Cillian entered the library full of expectations.
...
This was what Cillian had decided to do.
Arthur will react if this part of the library gives him any information. That’s why Cillian continued roaming around the library.
"Stop!"
Eventually, Cillian had to stop before looking toward the section where the Mouthful Eye had told him to stop walking with a pained groan. He was hidden inside the breast pocket of Cillian’s polo, peeking through the signs that appeared in each section of the library.
He had been walking for a few minutes, and he was glad that Mouthful Eye answered. It only meant that Cillian was in the right place, but...
/History/
Cillian darted across the stacks of bookshelves in the History section and saw countless books in each column. Reading all of them, even when Cillian tries to skim fast, would take a month at the very least.
’You’ve got to be shitting me. I can’t wait that long. Who knows how Arthur would move when that time comes?’
"Oh?"
Suddenly, Cillian heard someone exclaim. He turned to the side and saw a familiar person with glassy eyes and eyeglasses perched on the bridge of her nose.
It was Melissa Forn.
"What are you doing here?"
Melissa asked calmly.
Mouthful Eye, who heard the familiar voice, emerged from the chest pocket and peeked through it, and suggested.
"You can ask for her help. You two are friends, right?"
’Hah! No way. This woman will definitely not want my help, and we’re not friends at all. This body of mine bullied her so bad that she received ass scars from me.’
Cillian and Melissa are childhood friends.
Cillian knew that the previous Cillian’s attitude stemmed from the ideals his parents had instilled in him. Those ideals had broken him and turned him into a shitty ass person, to himself and to the people that are close to him when he was a child.
Even though Cillian would try to explain that he wasn’t that kind of person anymore, as if Melissa would believe a reason like that.
Melissa nudged her eyeglasses from her nose before offering.
"I don’t mind helping, but what kind of help are you looking for? Is it related to the book you are looking for in this section? I work here, so it’ll be fine as long as we requested it."
Cillian closed his eyes for a brief moment and thought about his current circumstances before nodding. Now that Melissa was the one offering help, it would not look like she was being forced by him to do this.
"I want to begin at the start. Is it possible to hoard the books of the History section? I was planning on skimming through the pages while Mouthful Eye watched me. I guess we can do it both."
Melissa looked around the library and chuckled in a low tone.
"We can all have this place, Cillian. Just you and me."
Then she touched her chin and questioned.
"But you’re only here to skim through them? What are you planning now?"
Somehow frightened about the way her tone and eyes changed when talking to him, Cillian let out a light cough before saying.
"You don’t need to know about it. Is it the right answer to your question?"
Melissa carefully watched him before shrugging once. She then went to the head librarian to ask for permission, while Cillian could only wait for her to return. After a few minutes, she received permission, and the two began working.
Melissa used wind magic to bring down the books from the upper shelves of the first bookshelf, while Cillian did everything normally and grabbed the books from the lower shelves. They then both sat at a table and brought the books there.
"We’re going to just skim everything, right?"
Melissa questioned again in a slightly confused tone.
"Yeah."
Even Mouthful Eye was confused when Cillian suggested trying this method, and had no idea what the use of finding information through here. But he trusted him.
"Let’s begin."
Today, Cillian will try to finish at least five hundred books without actually reading everything, and hopes that his plan succeeds in learning the censored word Aiden was trying to mention.
It could be anything at all, but Cillian trusts his plan by exploiting the restriction put on Aiden.
Because if the Mouthful Eye, a fragment of Aiden’s subconsciousness, was unable to tell or do anything related to the words he was trying to mention, it might also mean that those word or words were definitely censored from his perspective as well.
By skimming through this library, Cillian would be able to determine the censored words, while the Mouthful Eye remained watching over him to see if he could notice any censored words in the books they skimmed.
After all, Cillian and Melissa weren’t part of those restrictions.
Flap—!
"Stop right there, Melissa!"
Mouthful Eye shouted as he rolled out of Cillian’s pocket and showed a censored word that belonged there.
"See here! This thing is censored! It says "Everyone looks to the " then nothing! Hmm?! What does it say? Tell me!"
Cillian slowly stared at the page that Mouthful Eye was pointing at. Melissa, who happened to be the one who encountered it, slowly followed Cillian’s gaze before staring down at it. Then, she began reading the texts aloud toward this discovery.
"Silver light across the sea, shining softly down on me. Through the clouds it hides away, watching children laugh and play. When the darkness comes too soon, everyone looks to the ’moon’.
"..."
Cillian was silent before a light scoff escaped his lips.
The first censored text they discovered was from a nursery rhyme.
A harmless fucking children’s rhyme.
"A ***?"
Mouthful Eye tried to talk about what he heard from Melissa, and Cillian can definitely confirm that the censored word was Moon.
"What the hell? Why does he sound like that?"
Suddenly, Melissa found herself irritated and confused when she heard Mouthful Eye’s foul words and something worth scratching her ears for.
She wore the nastiest frown on her face before scratching her ears in an irritable way.
