Chapter 674: Faction Leanings, All Things Turn to Ash!
"Was Netal's earlier words an invitation?"
The red iron dragon lowered his gaze to observe the surging, churning ocean.
When the God of Faerie Dragons had first appeared, he hadn't known why this deity had come, nor why he was willing to risk his true body descending to the Material Plane to oppose Tiamat's avatar.
There was no prior connection between this dragon god of the Joyous Court and himself.
Making a move to help without reason certainly wouldn't happen without a motive.
However, this confusion didn't last long.
Through Netal's earlier words, combined with his own development situation in the Serene Spirit Wilderness, Garoth arrived at a rough deduction!
"He came on the orders of the Joyous Court's master, the Faerie Queen Titania."
"The Joyous Court, the headquarters of the fey lineage's deities..."
Garoth's eyes showed a contemplative gleam, the fine scales around his eyes crinkling slightly.
Among the many worlds and planes, there existed more than one pantheon. The fey deities who ruled the Joyous Court were one such group. They occupied planes far from the Material Plane, forming a system of their own.
According to the descriptions in the Dragon Legacy.
The Faerie Queen was a chaotic good deity.
Or rather, although the gods within the Joyous Court were all on the side of good, most were chaotic good, with a minority being neutral good, each adhering to different moral standards.
Both being good, but chaotic good and neutral good were different.
The former did good deeds entirely according to their own standards, disregarding rules. They had their own judgment system for good and evil and could break any rules and regulations for the justice they themselves believed in. The latter did good deeds within their own principles but also respected worldly rules, seeking paths of good within the framework.
For example, Gabriel belonged to the former.
To some extent, the Bronze Dragon King was also chaotic good. He had his own set of standards for good and evil.
They shared a common standard.
Act according to their own will and rules, follow their own moral code, disregarding worldly norms and requirements, and firmly believe that what they did was correct and just.
Another point worth mentioning.
There were almost no lawful good gods in the entire Joyous Court. Those gods who strictly adhered to rules and regulations would be out of place there.
If someone unfamiliar with divine factions were to look at it, they would probably classify the Joyous Court as a chaotic-side pantheon. After all, the master of the Joyous Court was chaotic good, and there were plenty of other chaotic good or chaotic neutral gods inside.
But that wasn't actually the case.
At least, according to the faction standards in the Dragon Legacy, the Joyous Court was classified as an order-side pantheon.
Because 'order' here was a macro concept, not 'lawful'.
The lawful faction strictly followed order, with rules being paramount. The regulations were everything, leaving no room for flexibility.
However, as long as one's actions and conduct were within the framework of order, did not cause substantial and strong damage to order, and actually maintained the existence of order, then they could be called an order faction.
Although the fey of the Joyous Court were not lawful, they were a genuine order-side pantheon.
"The olive branch from the Joyous Court...
"If there's nothing fishy about it, it's worth considering."
Garoth thought to himself.
For a deity to descend in person to face danger on his behalf was already a considerable show of sincerity. Such a cost was not something easily paid between gods.
Compared to the draconic pantheon, the Joyous Court was not powerful.
Both the number of deities and their overall strength were inferior.
However, the draconic pantheon was already nearly fragmented and completely unreliable. Currently, the Chromatic Queen, who caused Garoth the most trouble, belonged to the draconic pantheon.
The fey deities of the Joyous Court, on the other hand, were quite united and would support every member.
On the other hand.
Garoth felt he leaned more towards 'chaotic neutral'.
His leanings did not conflict with those of the Joyous Court.
Chaotic neutral individuals followed their own hearts. They highly valued their own will and used their own judgment as the yardstick.
In the face of their will, good and evil, right and wrong, and moral concepts were all secondary. They never deliberately did good or evil, unless these things aligned with their own preferences. Everything was based on their own wishes as the ultimate standard.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Two dragon silhouettes flew in rapidly.
Approaching the red iron giant dragon, the Gold Dragon Fenoris folded his wings, with the Silver Dragon Archer following closely behind. The two legendary dragons stabilized themselves beside Garoth.
Behind them, many other dragons circled in the high sky.
Their wing shadows crisscrossed, covering half the sky, but they didn't come too close. They watched the colorful, churning ocean nervously, their gazes filled with vigilance and awe.
Fenoris hovered beside Garoth, glanced downwards, then quickly withdrew his gaze.
"Your Majesty, what happened below?"
"This commotion doesn't seem to be caused by the Demon King."
He asked.
The dragons stationed in the Raging Tides Dragon Domain had personally witnessed the endless seawater turn into lava, and then into a churning, multicolored ocean. They too felt the power of Immortals and deities, their nerves stretched taut.
Garoth glanced at the Gold Dragon, then looked into the distance, his gaze crossing the dazzling sea surface.
When fighting the Lord of the Flame Prison, he had moved far away from the area of the Raging Tides Dragon Domain. Moreover, the domain itself possessed the Oath of the Maelstrom grand array, so it hadn't been significantly affected by the Scorched Domain's lava. The main structure of the island group remained intact.
However, the current multicolored ocean was much larger.
Its coverage area had expanded several times beyond the original lava zone.
𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
It was dazzling, dreamlike, and at the same time, extremely dangerous. Every wisp of color contained the residual waves of divine power.
The island group of the Raging Tides Dragon Domain was encompassed within it, now floating like isolated islands on a multicolored ocean.
The originally hard bedrock was now undulating with the waves, twisting and deforming like soft putty. The buildings on the islands tilted, the thickets lay flattened, all soft and seemingly ready to collapse at any moment. Yet, strangely, they remained standing.
The dragons had no idea what had happened.
What they knew was that the Raging Tides Dragon Domain had been affected by some force, was no longer safe, and they couldn't risk staying any longer.
Thus, the dragons were forced to leave the domain's boundaries, evacuating in an emergency amidst the chaos.
They scattered across the surrounding airspace, their eyes constantly scanning the colorful ocean below, maintaining a safe distance.
Garoth withdrew his gaze, his voice steady.
"The Lord of the Flame Prison is dead."
He said succinctly. "What's happening below now is a battle between two deities: the God of Faerie Dragons, Netal, and the avatar of the Chromatic Queen, Tiamat."
The Gold Dragon Fenoris's pupils dilated slightly for a moment, his body trembling uncontrollably.
Archer, on the other hand, turned her head sharply, the surprise in her vertical pupils completely undisguised, her lower jaw slightly agape.
"The God of Faerie Dragons, that dragon god of the Joyous Court? And the Chromatic Queen? How did two gods end up fighting here? Is there some old grudge between them?"
When the Silver Dragon mentioned the deities, she instinctively used only honorifics, avoiding their true names, her tone cautious.
Garoth didn't have such habits; his expression was calm.
He didn't say anything either, just lowered his gaze to watch the still bizarre and ever-changing sea surface, his eyes following the shifting colors.
The seven colors and five colors churned alternately; the divine battle was still ongoing.
The ranges of the two colors ebbed and flowed against each other.
The specific details were unclear. The clash between gods was not easy to observe.
However, this massive ocean that had turned soft and jelly-like was clearly the handiwork of the God of Faerie Dragons. The entire material structure of the sea area had been rewritten into another form. Tiamat's five-colored light could only occasionally flicker within the seven colors.
Clearly.
Tiamat was being suppressed.
After all, it was just an avatar. No matter how powerful the original body was, this avatar couldn't compare to Netal, who had descended to the Material Plane in his true form. The level of power the two sides invested was not on the same level.
Meanwhile, the Gold Dragon Fenoris's gaze flickered slightly.
He looked at the red iron dragon's mighty body, covered in the scars of battle, then slightly lowered his head, a look of reverence appearing in his eyes.
"Your Majesty, truly worthy of you."
"To make the high and mighty gods descend to the lower realm to fight for you, your radiance and glory have already shone so brightly that even the gods cannot ignore it."
He said seriously.
The red iron dragon let out a low chuckle, exhaling a faint wisp of hot air from his nostrils, but didn't respond to that statement.
He changed the subject, saying:
"Don't worry about the gods' battle for now. Regardless of who wins or loses, this isn't a place you can approach. Notify all dragons of the Raging Tides Domain to stay far away from here and maintain a safe distance."
Fenoris immediately nodded.
"It has already been arranged."
"The young dragons were the first batch to be transferred to airspace far from the coast, guarded by a few Legendary Ancient Dragons. They are all in a safe position now."
"However, the situation in the Raging Tides Dragon Domain is currently complicated."
"The island group is bobbing unsteadily on the sea surface, and the defensive formations on them have failed. We can't land for now. Those buildings and formations are useless for the time being."
He paused, turning his gaze towards Atlan.
"Your Majesty, instead of waiting here for the outcome of the gods' battle, we Maelstrom dragons should head to Atlan."
"The legions of Sacred Aola are still locked in battle with the main force of demons. Although we Maelstrom dragons don't have many legendaries, each one can stand on their own. Moreover, they thirst for eliminating evil and have been itching for a fight."
The thoughts of the Purification Faction among the Raging Tides dragons had been largely uprooted.
However, creatures like demons still greatly stimulated their killing instinct. Abyssal demons were themselves targets that all metal dragons delighted in eliminating.
"Agreed."
Garoth responded, saying, "Go and prepare. It's time to clean up the mess."
As his voice fell, his right claw lifted, its talons reaching into the air before him.
Space was torn apart beneath his claw.
The red iron dragon turned sideways and slipped into the rift, his figure disappearing into the churning gap. The rift then closed, leaving only a trace of scorching heat in the air.
Fenoris and Archer remained where they were.
Behind them, a few legendary dragons gathered around. One Bronze Dragon sidled up to Fenoris, glanced back at where the red iron dragon had been hovering, then looked at the Gold Dragon, a hint of confusion in his eyes.
"Your Majesty's condition looks poor after the battle with the Demon King. He has many wounds."
"The war in Atlan is also fierce. We can see those Abyssal Rifts hanging high in the sky from here, and it won't take us long to get there. Why does Your Majesty say we're going there to clean up the mess?"
He asked with some puzzlement, the tip of his tail swaying gently.
The Gold Dragon turned his head to look at the Bronze Dragon. "It seems you haven't realized... Ah, forget it. You'll know when we get there. Let's set off now."
He, of course, also knew that the Red Emperor had just been through an intense battle, was in poor condition, and had consumed a huge amount of stamina.
However, 'strong' and 'weak' were relative.
In front of the Red Emperor, ordinary demons, aside from their numbers, were still no more trouble than ants to kill. Those low-level demons weren't even qualified to withstand his dragon might.
At the same time, the Gold Dragon's wings flapped once, and his body shot towards Atlan.
The Silver Dragon said nothing, following closely behind, her wings beating steadily.
The other legendary dragons immediately flapped their wings and pursued, streaking through the clouds, heading towards Atlan.
Behind them, the Raging Sea continued to churn with seven-colored waves. The colors brightened and dimmed by turns; the battle beneath was still raging fiercely.
Atlan, Main Warzone.
In the central sky, a rift opened in the clouds, like a giant vertical eye.
The red iron dragon emerged from the rift, spreading his wings. He hovered in mid-air, his body casting a broad shadow under the dim sky light.
Below, the sounds of battle on the battlefield continued.
The clashing of metal, roars, and explosions mixed together, incessant.
Moreover, after this period of erosion, the Abyssal Rifts had expanded further. What was originally just a narrow crack had now become a giant channel, from which new demons continuously poured out.
The banners of the Aola legions flew over the scorched earth, the soldiers gritting their teeth and holding their ground.
The battle line had inevitably been pushed back quite a bit.
At this moment, the red iron dragon's appearance came without any announcement, not even a single dragon roar.
He just hovered there silently, his wingspan blocking the sky.
But the moment his figure fell into the eyes of the Aola legions, a thick, orderly cheer erupted from the entire battle line, a wave of sound surging skyward like a tsunami.
"For the Sacred Emperor!"
"Aola will be victorious!"
"For the Red Emperor!"
...
The Emperor of Sacred Aola had returned.
Their sovereign, their faith, he had returned.
The outcome of the war no longer needed any words to explain. The previously taut morale instantly boiled over, and weary faces were renewed with radiance.
The roars from the military formations merged into one. The banners flew high, rustling in the wind.
The front line, which had been pushed back step by step by the demonic tide, regained its footing the moment the red iron dragon appeared. Not only did the line stabilize, but it even began to push forward.
The demon legions also noticed the change in the sky.
Those countless low-level demons still surged forward madly, driven by instinct and the Abyssal aura, throwing themselves at the Aola defense line with no rationality, completely incapable of judging the situation.
But at the rear of the demon army, the movements of the legendary demon generals clearly hesitated.
Their forward charge slowed, their eyes sweeping across the high sky.
"The Red Emperor is back, where is the Lord?"
A terrible conjecture echoed in their minds.
To have grown to the legendary tier, none of the demon generals were completely stupid. When they saw the red iron dragon's figure hovering in the high sky, they realized in their hearts what the outcome of this invasion of the Material Plane would be.
They checked their forward momentum, looked back at the rifts in the sky, their gazes filled with shock and doubt.
Then, they turned and fled.
The legendary demon generals, one after another, began to turn around and disengage from the battlefield, abandoning the troops still fighting, retreating madly towards the rifts.
They didn't even notify each other.
It wasn't necessary.
A demon that could survive to the legendary level in the Abyss had senses sharper than any creature.
When the Lord hadn't returned and the enemy's Emperor was back on the battlefield, there was only one correct choice.
Flee!
All the intelligent demon generals, including the Great Demons, chose to flee at this moment.
The Aolan dragons and other legends' first reaction was to pursue. Their claws were already extended, and dragon breath was gathering in their throats.
But immediately following, an instinctual wariness made them stop.
The red iron dragon's gaze swept across the Abyssal Rifts, and his deep, heavy voice rang out.
"Soldiers of Aola."
"The Lord of the Flame Prison, Asalia, is dead."
"You did not take a single step back in the face of the demonic flood, nor did you waver in the slightest under the erosion of the Abyss. Now, I need you to do one last thing."
"Move away from all rifts. Retreat to a safe distance."
"Then—witness my might!"
The command was passed down layer by layer immediately.
The war banners tilted sideways, the phalanxes retreated. The soldiers of Sacred Aola and the various nations of Atlan immediately began to withdraw, completely disregarding any pursuit of the demons. Everyone evacuated in an orderly fashion towards safe positions.
The red iron dragon, high in the sky, took everything in.
Immediately after, his body began to mutate.
The color of his scales shifted from a rusty red to a dark, pure black, like charcoal that had been thoroughly burned. A fiery, red-orange pattern, like molten lava, surfaced on their surface, spreading from his neck to the base of his limbs and wings, and to the tip of his tail, like the hot currents churning deep within the earth breaking through the surface.
Around his body, tiny sparks sputtered from the gaps between his scales, hissing and burning in the air.
Detonation Form!
Then, his heads began to bulge slightly at the branching points on the sides of his neck, before splitting.
One, two, three...
Three heads covered in dark black scales with lava patterns rose up simultaneously. Six enormous arms also stretched out simultaneously, forming a three-headed, six-armed posture. His wingspan became even broader as they extended.
At the same time, the maws of all three dragon heads opened wide, and they took a deep breath.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
A fierce gale sprang up, and the air currents gathered towards the three dragon maws at a visible speed, forming a gradually expanding vortex.
Countless life essences, along with various types of energy scattered across the battlefield—including Abyssal energy—were pulled together by an invisible hand.
They formed a series of torrents, converging towards the red iron dragon's maws, and he swallowed them down.
"His Majesty really got himself a good meal with that breath."
The Chrome Dragon chewed on an arm she had torn from a blood-lion demon, a look of envy in her eyes, her lower jaw opening and closing as she gnawed on the bone and flesh.
Time passed.
Soon, the red iron dragon, with the momentum of a whirlwind sweeping away clouds, cleared the surrounding energy. Those powers that had originally permeated the battlefield and dispersed in the air were all absorbed into his body.
His aura also recovered significantly in a short time.
Although he still wasn't at his peak, he could no longer be considered weak. It was enough to handle the situation ahead.
At the same time, the red iron dragon spread his giant wings.
When the dark wing membranes unfurled, they blocked out the sky, casting a massive shadow on the ground.
The three dragon heads took another deep breath, their chests expanding simultaneously.
The lava patterns on his necks shifted from dark red to orange-red, and then from orange-red to incandescent white. Each color change was accompanied by a sharp rise in temperature. The surrounding air was distorted by the extreme heat.
Beneath his wings, Dragon Qi began to condense, compress, and rotate.
It was compressed from a gaseous state into a liquid, and then from a liquid into countless solidified orbs. Each orb was a destruction energy compressed to its absolute limit, with fine sparks dancing on their surfaces.
Next.
Dragon Breath spewed out from the three dragon maws. Three pairs of claws simultaneously lifted, their palms facing upwards.
The Dragon Breath fell into the claws, firmly contained within. It continuously rotated, condensed, and compressed within the embrace of the claws.
Dragonqi Bombs were also thrown into the mix, intertwining with the Dragon Breath. They gradually formed three enormous energy spheres, their surfaces churning with corona-like flames. Every instant, dense energy fissions erupted, as if stars were about to explode.
"Pray. Though it is meaningless."
With the dragon's low whisper, the energy spheres left his claws.
In an instant.
The world lost its color. The entire world seemed to turn grey, all colors drained away.
And within this grey world, only three ball-shaped lights shone brilliantly, like the blazing sun, illuminating all directions.
In the next moment, the three rifts, along with the surrounding space, including all the demons that had surged out or were trying to flee, vanished without a trace. It was as if they had been erased from the canvas by an invisible cloth, wiped clean of existence.
Not even a single remnant or piece of ash was left behind.
This was just the beginning.
The three-headed, six-armed dark dragon released energy recklessly, condensing more energy spheres. Each sphere that fell represented the annihilation of a main rift, along with all the surrounding smaller rifts. Each eruption was accompanied by a brief disappearance of color from heaven and earth.
The soldiers of Aola looked up at this scene, their eyes fixed.
Their usually iron-cast faces were now filled with admiration and piety, their eyes holding only the figure of their Emperor. Even their breathing became shallow, for fear of missing a single moment.
Finally, only one rift remained.
Garoth's eyes narrowed slightly, his body shaking gently.
More Dragon Qi gushed from the surface of his dark black scales, constructing a silhouette inch by inch, forming an Ember-Doom Clone. It condensed in front of the rift in the same posture—three-headed, six-armed, exactly like the original body.
"Go, go to the Abyss."
Garoth said.
The clone folded its wings and shot straight into the rift like an arrow from a bowstring, turning into a dark streak of light that plunged directly into the rift.
Then, Garoth's original body raised its three heads again.
He re-condensed an energy sphere and sent it into the rift.
The sky of Atlan lost its color once more.
And when the light faded, the rift was gone.
Thus, all the rifts across the sky were flattened and erased.
Sunlight poured down like molten gold, piercing through the remaining clouds and spilling onto the Scorched Earth. White steam rose from the scorched ground, and the air was filled with the mixed smell of earth and ash.
The red iron dragon hovered at the center of light and ash.
His three heads drooped, his six arms hung still. The lava patterns on his scales flickered like the breathing of stars, the light rising and falling with his breaths.
Below, the soldiers of Aola looked up at the sky.
Then, a wave of cheering rose from the entire front line, as loud as a mountain avalanche and a sea roar. It merged into one, pierced through the clouds, and spread far away to the edge of the horizon.
They had witnessed the Emperor's might.
The victory and glory of this war belonged to Sacred Aola, to the great Red Emperor.
At the same time.
The Bottomless Abyss, the Sulfur Lands.
This was the domain of the Lord of the Flame Prison, or rather, it had been his domain.
The air was thick and scorching hot. Sulfur and poison smoke intertwined to form a murky canopy, its color like congealed blood clots. The ground beneath his feet was a mixture of solidified lava and shattered scorched earth.
The six-armed, three-headed Ember-Doom dragon stood on the scorched earth.
He had just passed through the rift, and the fissure behind him that could lead to Atlan closed.
The Ember-Doom dragon took a deep breath.
The smell of sulfur filled his lungs, the residual heat of the flames brushed over his scales, and the poison smoke swirled around him without dissipating. His three heads raised slightly at the same time, and a low, satisfied tremor rumbled from his chest.
*This is the flavor.*
Scorched earth.
Blazing flames.
Poison smoke, molten rock.
...
The Abyss cared nothing for order, nothing for consequences, nothing for anything.
The only law here was power.
And he, at this moment, was the strongest power on this scorched earth.
All the restraint needed in the Material Plane could be released here without limit, and he was enjoying everything that was about to happen.
Then, the Ember-Doom dragon lowered his head, his gaze sweeping forward.
Demons.
Countless demons.
Low-level dretches and horned demons clustered in droves on the scorched earth, packed densely together. Manes and flomo demons circled in the low sky, gathered around the sealed rifts, letting out piercing shrieks.
One by one, the legendary demon generals stared at each other, shocked and uncertain.
The Ember-Doom dragon looked at them.
His three heads all grinned at the same time. His six vertical pupils reflected the dense masses of figures. The angle of the corners of his mouths was identical, revealing rows of thick, sharp teeth.
He laughed, cruelly and with pleasure.
"Atlan is not a place for you to invade."
He said.
The moment the words fell.
The dragon folded his six arms, his chest expanded, and he took another deep, deep breath.
The energy around him churned and converged into his body—fire elements, poison smoke, sulfur gas... Everything was inhaled, compressed, and shaped by his three heads, coalescing into a destructive force within his lungs.
Then, he exhaled.
The Dragon Breath erupted. At first, it was just a thin line, then it continuously expanded, becoming a sea of flame at its end. It swept towards the densest formations of demons. The three streams of breath intertwined, covering a vast area.
The moment the breath touched the ground, the earth trembled.
Then came the explosion.
Shockwaves radiated outwards. Scorched earth was flung into the air, and fragments of rock and molten lava scattered everywhere. The demons that came into contact with the breath were instantly vaporized, not even having time to scream.
The Dragon Breath plowed radiating ravines and collapsed chasms into the earth.
Everything was crushed, melted, devoured. Blackened traces extended in all directions.
But this was just the beginning.
The Ember-Doom dragon spread his wings and streaked at extreme speed through the rolling poison smoke. His dark wing shadow swept across the sky. Dragonqi Bombs condensed, compressed, and rotated under his wings, radiating a dazzling white light.
They shot in all directions.
*Boom! Boom! Boom!*
Accompanied by ear-splitting roars, destruction seemed to be woven into an impenetrable net, covering the sky and the earth. The breath and the Dragonqi Bombs interweaved back and forth, bringing every living thing in sight within their attack range.
The demons within the net screamed, fled, and were annihilated.
The scorched earth cracked, and magma surged from the fissures, merging with the breath to expand the scope of the destruction. The entire Sulfur Lands trembled and burned.
The Ember-Doom dragon stood at the center of it all.
And beneath him, the entire Sulfur Lands were burning fiercely. All things turned to ash.
