Chapter 1686: Scheming Motives
The body was pierced through, and black mist leaked from Vashak, his life like a candle flickering in the wind.
Unfortunately, Vashak had no chance for a counterattack.
Bai Jin did not cease her assault.
Unless Vashak was completely obliterated, she would not easily lower her guard.
Various small spells rained down, leaving Vashak no room for maneuver. He helplessly looked towards Bar, hoping the Lord Baal he revered would intervene to save his life.
However, the demon Bar didn’t even glance at him, his expression seemed to say, "I said I can handle it alone. You insisted on tagging along. Now that you want to be cannon fodder and drag us down, you can’t blame me for being ruthless."
Vashak grimaced and finally abandoned treatment.
Sharp Frost Ice Arrows pierced through Vashak’s body, turning him into a dispersing mass of black mist.
Bai Jin’s intuition told her that Vashak hadn’t truly died yet!
The magic wand swirled before her, and a vast wave of fire spewed from Bai Jin’s Magic Array, engulfing the black mist.
The black mist was unaffected, escaping Bai Jin’s magic and flying towards Bar.
Bar showed no sign of disturbance at his subordinate’s demise. His weapon shifted in hand as he launched an attack at the nearby Yang Yu, leaving only a mass of black mist at the original spot.
Yang Yu raised his shield again for Defense.
Adjusting the shield’s angle, the sharp black blade scraped a gash on Yang Yu’s shield, light slowly gleaming through the gap onto Yang Yu’s arm.
Yang Yu stabbed forward with the Black Tachi, piercing Bar’s shoulder, but only causing minimal harm.
A Light Arrow arced over the sky, exploding beside Yang Yu and Bar, unleashing a fierce wave of Holy Light, instantly pushing Bar back.
A glow appeared on Yang Yu, and his wounds began Slow Healing.
Alongside firing the Light Arrow, Iyas urged He Meng to close in and cast a Slow Healing on Yang Yu to heal his wounds.
Originally, Iyas could apply more offensive buffs to Yang Yu, but Yang Yu signaled with his actions that there was no rush to apply those buffs.
The time for {Heavenly Step} was about to end, so applying those buffs now would be a pure waste.
Yang Yu cast a glance at the slightly fatigued Bai Jin, who had more than fulfilled her Task. If they could figure out how to deal with Agares and strip Bar of his support, perhaps they could still catch up with the Demon King and the Hero’s battle.
Just then, Yang Yu noticed that the black mist Bar left earlier was entangled with the black mist from Vashak’s Death.
The black mist generated at Vashak’s death was actually absorbed by Bar, becoming part of him!
Bar’s attributes surged by ten percent in front of Yang Yu.
This was information Yang Yu had not known!
Is it because the Demon Gathering Core within Bar’s body, composed of different demons, caused this effect?
Can he freely use the magic power of that demon before it is reborn within him?
Bar’s Speed suddenly increased, leaving behind an afterimage. Red light flashed in Yang Yu’s eyes as he activated {Sudden Killing Intent}, suddenly increasing his speed enough to perceive all of Bar’s movements.
Moving his steps on the not-so-big Golden Glass, Yang Yu dodged the Sword Blade stabbed by Bar.
Both the shield and the sword disappeared, and Yang Yu reached out to grab Bar’s arm.
Bar’s skin was as smooth as a frog’s, and Yang Yu’s nails dug into his skin, activating {Reverse Wheel}’s effect, instantly turning Strength to 9999, squatting half-down to use his body as a lever, throwing Bar over his shoulder.
A piece of upright Golden Glass formed in the direction Bar was thrown, sprouting countless thorns.
Bar flipped in midair, landing steadily on the thorn-covered Golden Glass, where the purple thorns intertwined like a flytrap seizing an insect, wrapping around Bar.
Burning black flames erupted from him, instantly incinerating the incoming purple thorns to ashes, simultaneously assimilating the Golden Glass beneath him, forming a floating black magic plate in midair.
The black magic plate rotated slowly, and Bar raised his head to look at Yang Yu.
An orange light ignited on Yang Yu’s Black Tachi, as he approached Bar like a killing god.
Raising his sword for Defense, Bar clashed with him.
The Black Tachi infused with {Double-sided Slash} easily sliced through Bar’s sword, cleaving open the right side of Bar’s chest.
No blood flowed from Bar’s chest, and Yang Yu, as if slicing a watermelon, cut a smooth face on the right side of Bar’s chest, where Demon Gathering Cores, the size of ping-pong balls, were embedded in Bar’s gelatinous body.
The moment Yang Yu saw the Demon Gathering Cores, Bar erupted with intense Magic Fluctuation, blowing Yang Yu several meters away.
Tumbling in mid-air, Yang Yu crafted one last available piece of Golden Glass, landing securely atop it.
Bar did not immediately launch an attack at Yang Yu as he had done before, his wound rapidly healing before their eyes:
"I originally wanted to say, ’I won’t fall for the same move twice’...
That last strike was truly unexpected.
I was quite surprised.
A demon’s body isn’t something you can touch casually, yet you still endured the Black Magic Erosion’s pain to throw me out!"
"
Yang Yu, unable to attack, feigned readiness to use Golden Glass to launch another attack, tauntingly said:
"I found out by touch; it really hurt me to death!
Even now, black smoke is still emerging from my hands, faintly aching.
If only I hadn’t used that move."
"If it were other demons, your move might have worked."
"More than that, I’m more concerned about what I saw just now. If breaking those things in your body means I can eliminate you?"
"Who knows!"
With a pull through the black mist behind him, Bar this time switched his weapon to a long spear, a rich cyan flame igniting on the long spear.
A bizarre eye opened on the long spear, emitting a faint ominous aura.
Bar moved, his weapon carving a comet-like trajectory through the air, stabbing towards Yang Yu.
The Golden Glass beneath his feet had just reached its end time, and Yang Yu began free-falling, Bar’s attack hitting nothing.
"Trying to escape?"
Bar darted downward after Yang Yu, simultaneously glancing at the distant Agares and the also descending Bai Jin.
Bai Jin had tricked Vashak just now, but after consistently using so much magic, she was extremely tired, hardly a threat until she recovered.
Though his power rose due to Vashak’s Death, it was not a guaranteed victory against this group assault.
Who knows what’s happening with Hero Lux on the other side.
From today’s magic, it seems the Hero can indeed freely open an Abyss Gate...
And no one knows if the Hero has the means to seal them.
Bar had no desire to return to that Abyss, nor to battle that goddess again, so his aim to put on a performance was to buy the Hero some time, gain some trust, and then ascertain if the Hero truly had the means to seal them once more.
Now that one demon was dead, they conveniently could use the "disparate power levels" excuse to retreat.
