Chapter 1691: Negotiation
"Yo.
Didn’t expect you guys to fight your way here.
Could we, perhaps, sit down and talk?"
Agares showed no fear, nor any panic; he simply greeted Yang Yu plainly.
Yang Yu, who had approached, stopped and didn’t launch an attack immediately. He said,
"At this point, it seems there’s nothing much to discuss."
Forcing a smile onto his aged face, Agares spoke,
"There’s actually a lot to talk about.
I know you’re not here for us.
The reason we are fighting is because of an agreement with the Hero.
Never expected you would have such a skill, completely locking down my actions.
Your cooperation is flawless, even better than the Hero and his companions.
I originally thought the method earlier was a good one, but you and your partner completely thwarted it.
If it’s you guys, you could certainly defeat the Hero.
Given the current battle speed between the Hero and the Demon King, you won’t make it in time if you head there now.
But my ability coincidentally can help you.
To be safe, my avatar has set up a Teleportation Array over there, in an extremely hidden location.
I no longer have the ability to confront you.
Not just me, even Lord Baal is gradually showing his decline.
Demons in your hands are just small fries.
I’ve said almost everything I need to.
You’re very smart, so even if I don’t explicitly say it, you should know what I’m implying."
With a solemn face, Yang Yu sheathed the Black Tachi, saying,
"It is indeed quite an attractive proposal.
With our current strength, it would still take some time to completely deal with Baal and you.
And we don’t know anything about the situation with the Hero and the Demon King.
A temporary truce, using your ability to get over there, is indeed an attractive proposal.
The issue is, why should we trust you demons?"
Agares couldn’t help but give a bitter smile, and his tone revealed his humility: "When you were besieged by the Demon King, I stepped in to help.
The Evil Dragon’s offspring didn’t rush over so quickly, partly due to my contribution.
Consider it as repaying a favor.
Though we’re demons, demons aren’t all the same.
Some demons just want to live peacefully, and have no desire to bring calamity to this world.
You who’ve participated in wars between two nations should understand this principle.
One must not generalize.
If after all this, you still don’t trust me, I hope you can precisely state what it takes for me to earn your trust.
I will try to meet your demands as much as possible."
Yang Yu stood silent in place.
After thinking for a while, Yang Yu slowly spoke,
"Understood.
The situation with the Hero is indeed more severe than here.
But we can’t just casually trust demons.
I will state my demand, if you can fulfill it...
"
Before Yang Yu finished his words, he drew his Black Tachi again, the front of his body glowing red, rushing forward like a red missile, shattering the ruins not far away.
An eagle soared high from behind the ruins, its pupils featuring an inverted V-mark.
"Coming to negotiate, yet using a puppet.
This is a bit too insincere!"
Yang Yu said while leaping fiercely from the ruins towards the high-flying eagle.
The eagle flapped its wings to avoid Yang Yu’s attack, seemingly surprised that Yang Yu could expose its true form.
The Agares who was just speaking with Yang Yu twisted his figure and also transformed into an eagle with inverted V-mark pupils.
"I didn’t intentionally want to converse with you in that manner; it was all for safety’s sake.
If it were you, would you appear defenseless in front of someone?"
The eagle’s pupils emitted a red light, and Agares’ voice echoed in Yang Yu’s mind.
Adjusting his stance in mid-air, quickly waving the Sword Blade, Yang Yu replied,
"Your consciousness indeed spoke to me.
So, I’ve considered it.
But midway, the you chatting with me switched your consciousness to another nearby shell.
And then returned again.
Both eagles are you.
From a single entity, divided into two parts.
The ability to split into multiple parts doesn’t seem to be a demon-only privilege."
Agares sighed silently, "You’re entirely correct; you indeed are a bit different from ordinary humans.
This is what’s called the Goddess’ Apostle?
Now that my little trick has been inadvertently exposed before you, what will you do?
Was our negotiation just now still valid?"
"What do you think?" Yang Yu’s tone was cold.
From the beginning, Yang Yu never intended to change his mind.
If he let Agares and Baal go today, there’d surely be a long arduous journey ahead.
The longer the night, the more dreams there will be.
In many games Yang Yu had played, such scenarios were common. Having the power to eliminate a formidable enemy, yet choosing to let them go, tragedy would always follow as the beginning of a new journey.
Completely eradicating Baal and Agares here was the only way to set Yang Yu’s mind at ease.
Agares read Yang Yu’s thoughts in his eyes,
"That’s really unfortunate.
However, this is the answer you would come to.
Let me make one last struggle.
Which one is my true body!
Take a good guess!"
The two eagles with inverted V-mark eyes flapped their wings fiercely, creating a violent Hurricane between them, attacking Yang Yu from both front and back.
Taking this opportunity, the two eagles flew in different directions.
Both eagles had the same name.
Agares said this but didn’t consolidate his consciousness at all; his consciousness resided equally within both eagles, only deciding the primary when they were too far apart.
If Yang Yu chased one eagle, Agares would quickly transfer his entire will to the other eagle in the opposite direction.
This place was near the border of the Barrier; if he could just get through that edge, even if weakened, there was still hope. Baal would undoubtedly follow his cue to find him, and then leave here together.
Sadly, the plan was ideal but reality was harsh.
Golden Glass suddenly spread piece by piece from the sky. Yang Yu stepped swiftly onto that row of Golden Glass, charging at the closer eagle.
With enough distance, Yang Yu commanded a face of Golden Glass to appear in the eagle’s path, unleashing a mass of purple thorns that closed like flower buds at night, enveloping the soaring eagle.
Seeing the eagle captured, Yang Yu unhesitatingly used a slanted piece of Golden Glass, leaping towards the other eagle, rapidly stepping on newly generated Golden Glass, flying swiftly through the air, moving so fast Agares couldn’t make it out.
Agares, just having filled the other eagle’s body with consciousness, saw red currents embed into Yang Yu’s palm, coating Yang Yu’s Sword Blade in orange-red.
