Chapter 23: Guardians?

" It wasn’t my fault! That bastard isn’t who he says he is!" Vlaric tried to justify his actions.

" And what makes you say that." Silas said, annoyed, waiting for Vlaric to make a fool of himself.

" Look at his hand. That dagger, he didn’t have it before yet now he does, doesn’t that seem a bit strange to you?!" Vlaric said while pointing at Osborne aggressively. " For all we know, he could be some demon in disguise!"

" I know we tried the blood test, but we know they’re sometimes rare cases when those demonic bastards manage to get through them."

" You’re saying he’s a demon because he has a magical weapon?" Silas said calmly yet the look on his face couldn’t help turning solemn.

" Of course!"

" Vlaric... You’ve really outdone yourself this time." Silas couldn’t help laughing hysterically all of a sudden.

Seeing this, everyone within the room turned skeptical, even Osborne himself.

" Do you have any idea who this guy right here is?"

" I’m just coming back from the platoon leaders office, and when he learned we found someone out in the snow, he seemed agitated, when he asked about their features and I told him, he asked that I bring him to him."

" W-What?" Vlaric muttered, his face ashen.

" With the way he was acting, this guy definitely isn’t some tom dick or harry, and yet, when I told you to look after him, you decided it was best to injure him instead?!"

" I told you to keep that hatred of yours for nobles in check but you never listen, now look where it’s gotten you." Silas shook his head helplessly.

Silas turned towards Osborne before helping him up.

" I truly am sorry about all this." Silas said with a sigh. " If you would follow me, I’ll take you to the platoon leader right now."

Osborne paused for a moment to stare at Vlaric who looked like his world was about to crumble.

" Alright." Osborne nodded towards Silas before the man took him away.

On their way to the platoon leader, Osborne kept wondering why that person was in fact looking for him.

He had a few thoughts as to why but until meeting the person, he wasn’t exactly sure.

On reaching the Platoon leaders office.

" Sir, I’ve brought the person you requested." Silas spook from outside.

" Oh, yes, please bring him in." The voice of a man was heard.

Silas then turned towards Osborne and gestured for him to enter.

Osborne pushed open the door and stepped in, unlike normal soldiers, someone of platoon leader level had a building to themselves.

The military in the kingdom of Thornevale was broken down into several levels of soldiers grouped in stars.

1 stars were footsoldiers.

2 stars were squad leaders, who controlled around 8-14 men.

3 stars were Platoon leaders.

4 stars were Company leaders, who controlled 60 to 250 soldiers, which were a combination of multiple platoons.

5 stars (Battalion leaders: leads 400 to 1200 troops) (contains multiple companies) (lieutenant colonel) (Baron Status)

6 stars (Regiment leader: contains 1,500 to 5,200 soldiers) (contains 3 to 5 battalions) (colonel) (Viscount status)

7 star (Division leader: contains 10,000 to 16,000 soldiers) (contains 3+ brigades) (Major General) (Count status)

8 star (Corps leader: contains 20,000 to 45,000 soldiers) (contains 2 to 5 divisions) (lieutenant General) (Marquis Status)

9 star (Field Army leader: leads 50,000+ soldiers) (contains 2+ corps) (General) (Duke status)

10 star (Marshal) (Absolute control over all militia) (Answers only to the king)

Osborne saw a middle-aged man seating behind a wooden desk the moment he walked in.

The man’s eyes lit up on seeing him, but before he could speak.

Two shadows emerged right Infront of Osborne in the blink of an eye.

He flinched in fear, unconsciously raising his hands to shield his face.

" It really is him." One of them said.

" I had my doubts but it looks like we finally got him." The other let out a relieved sigh.

’ W-What?’ Osborne was confused that they didn’t outright attack him.

Cautiously, he gradually raised his hands down.

When he saw the silver dragon insignia on the hooded attire, his eyes widened a bit.

" Your from house Roosevelt?" Osborne asked.

" Yes Young master, please don’t be alarmed." One of the figures said before pulling down her hood.

Twitch~ Twitch~

’ Are those fox ears?’ Osborne was taken aback when he saw a woman with lengthy orange hair, beneath the hood, but what really took him by suprise was her animalistic features.

’ The other ones one as well.’ he saw the other figure pull down her hood, revealing a woman with dark tanned skin, short neck length black hair and cat ears.

He also noticed their tails swaying behind them as well.

" You may address us as Natalie and Clawdeth." The fox haired woman said. " We were sent by lady Guinevere to look after you on your journey."

" But some days after you entered the north, you vanished along the mountain bases, we searched for you for hours but couldn’t find you, so we decided to seek the help of the militia stationed here." Natalie said. " But thanks to Platoon leader Cedric here, we were able to finally meet you again." She gestured towards the silent platoon leader seated behind his desk.

" Anything to help the Field leader." The Platoon leader said charismatically.

Of course Osborne could see right through his motives, the man believed this act of merit could get him in Roseline’s good graces.

’ I honestly don’t think that woman cares much for me to remember something like this, so I feel kinda bad for the guy.’ Osborne thought to himself.

" We’re terribly sorry, please forgive us for making such a critical blunder." Natalie said.

" It’s alright... You did your best to protect me, I’m guessing you’re the reason I didn’t encounter any monsters on my way here." Osborne said.

" Do you even need to ask." Clawdeth said, sounding annoyed.

" Clawdeth!" Natalie shot her an unhappy glare. " Watch your tone when addressing the young master!"

Natalie then let out a helpless sigh before turning towards Osborne. " Young master please forgive her, my friend has been a bit on edge ever since you’re departure, in truth she’s only just worried about you."

" I am not!" Clawdeth glared at Natalie.
