Chapter 98: Thanks.

She suddenly looked up.

Her green hair moved slightly in the wind as her eyes landed on the approaching armored figure.

For a moment, she simply stared.

Then her face brightened.

"You’re finally back."

Vivian quickly placed the basket down before walking toward him.

Osborne stopped as she approached.

She smiled.

"Welcome back."

Osborne nodded.

Vivian looked toward the farmland before turning her attention back to him.

"I didn’t get the chance to properly thank you this morning."

"What you did saved us a lot of time and effort. We’re truly grateful for your help." She said earnestly, gesturing toward the fields.

"If you hadn’t helped us, we wouldn’t have been able to plant anything today."

Osborne looked over the farmland again.

The place had changed considerably since the last time he had seen it.

There was still a lot of work left to do, but he believed in time they would be done.

Vivian noticed him looking.

"My father couldn’t stop talking about how much work you did." A small laugh escaped her.

"He kept saying that he’d never seen someone clear farmland that quickly."

Osborne didn’t respond.

He simply looked at the cheerful expression on Vivian’s face.

For some reason, seeing her so happy made something inside him feel slightly lighter.

His lingering negativity from being scammed receded a bit from being thanked so warmly.

Osborne looked around as if searching for someone.

Vivian noticed and said,

"My parents are currently resting." She smiled awkwardly.

"Well, my mother is resting." She placed her hands on her hips.

"My father is another story."

Osborne tilted his head slightly.

Vivian giggled, as if unable to hold back her laughter.

"After seeing what you did to the farmland, he became so excited that he tried doing even more work himself."

She shook her head.

"You’d think he’d forgotten how old he is."

Osborne remained silent.

Vivian continued.

"Eventually he ended up spraining his back." She said, a wry smile on her face.

"He insisted he was fine, but I made him lie down." Her expression was one of amusement.

"That’s probably for the best." Osborne nodded.

Vivian stared at him.

It was only a few words, but hearing him speak still caught her slightly off guard.

She smiled.

"Yeah, I told him the same thing."

Osborne turned toward the house.

Vivian watched him for a moment before realizing where he was going.

"You’re going inside?"

Osborne nodded.

Vivian quickly followed after him.

"Would you like me to bring you something to eat?"

Osborne shook his head.

Vivian frowned.

"Are you sure?"

He nodded.

Osborne was actually hungry.

His stomach had been reminding him of that fact for quite some time.

However, he didn’t want to disturb Vivian after she had already spent the day working on the farm.

Besides, his body had changed considerably since the demonification began.

He could go for days without eating if necessary.

It wasn’t comfortable, but it was possible.

’I’ll eat later.’ He thought to himself.

Vivian didn’t seem convinced.

"You don’t have to worry about bothering me."

Osborne looked at her.

’She could tell?’

"I can prepare something quickly, so don’t worry about it." She gave him a thumbs up.

"Besides, you’ve already done more than enough for us." She gestured toward the farmland.

"So just leave the food to me."

Osborne remained silent.

Vivian stared at him for a moment before smiling.

"I’ll take that as a yes."

She turned around and walked toward the house.

Osborne watched her leave before following behind.

He eventually returned to his room.

The room was still exactly as he had left it. Which meant that no one had entered since he left, something that set his heart at ease.

Osborne sat down on the edge of the bed and began thinking about the day’s events.

The goblin quest was completed.

He still had the herb gathering quest and the missing person quest.

The guild had given him a week, so there was no reason to rush.

He could probably finish the herb gathering mission tomorrow.

As for the missing person...

Osborne’s expression became slightly serious.

That one bothered him more.

Ten bronze was an extremely small reward for searching for someone who had disappeared in the forest.

There had to be a reason the guild valued the mission so little. Or to be specific, there had to be a reason the one who placed that quest valued that person so little.

Perhaps it was a means of formality? If so, then that left even more questions.

Maybe the person was indeed a child from a impoverished family, who had wandered off.

Or they had already been missing for too long. So the owners of the quest didn’t feel the need to have the reward placed high.

Or the guild had given up searching because they believed the person was already dead.

Whichever it was, Osborne would find out eventually.

---

A knock suddenly came from the door.

Osborne looked toward it.

The door opened shortly afterward.

Vivian entered while wearing an apron, carrying a wooden tray in her hands.

The smell immediately reached Osborne.

She placed the food down on the small stool beside his bed.

"I hope you don’t mind." She smiled.

"I made something simple."

Osborne looked down.

She’d prepared something which looked similar to meatloaf, or perhaps it was.

It wasn’t anything fancy.

But after spending so much time eating whatever he could find in the forest, it looked surprisingly good.

Vivian looked at him.

"Do you need anything else?"

Osborne shook his head.

She nodded.

"Alright."

Vivian began walking toward the door before turning around.

"If you change your mind, you know where to find me."

Osborne nodded.

Vivian smiled before leaving the room.

The door closed behind her.

Osborne looked down at the food.

He hadn’t realized just how hungry he was until the smell reached him.

He slowly placed his hands together.

"Thank you for this food."

After saying a quiet prayer, Osborne picked up the spoon and began eating.

The food was simple.

There was nothing special about it.
