Chapter 40: A taste of what’s to come.
Chapter 40: A taste of what’s to come.
Unlike his left heart, his new right heart looked far weaker in comparison.
But that didn’t last for long.
Because the next moment, large amounts of mana began pouring towards it from all over the area.
***********
Somewhere within the estate.
Rebecca’s room.
" My lady, are you sure it was in your best interests to leave that man alone, now that your older sister has returned, it’ll be far more difficult to discipline him if he were to ever step out of line." Clawdeth stood behind, Rebecca who was seated, helping her gently comb her hair as she prepared to go to bed.
" Do you really think that’s the case?" Rebecca chuckled.
" My sister isn’t as biased as you think. If she hears that he’s done something wrong, she won’t hesitate to punish him, and unlike I, she’s far less merciless in that regard." She covered her lips and giggled.
" It’s a shame I won’t get to punish that money grumbling bastard myself, but oh well, so long as he gets what he deserves and soon leaves this place, I don’t think i–" Rebecca said, only to pause at the end.
"..?!!!" She suddenly felt an unnaturally strong pull tugging at something within her.
Her face quickly turned pale before she bent over and coughed up some blood.
" My lady!" Clawdeth cried out in alarm, bending to help her up. " Are you alright?!"
" Does it look like I’m alright to you?!" Rebecca whipped her head and glared at her, only for her features to tremble again, before she coughed up another mouthful of blood.
’ What’s going on, why is my mana suddenly in so much chaos?!’ inwardly, Rebecca was greatly disturbed.
Inside her body, her mana was practically thrashing about, as if trying to break free of her control and fly elsewhere.
But she resisted the strange urge, nevertheless, her resisting, didn’t mean her mana was calm, because of it, her mana constantly thrashed about within her, causing her more and more internal injuries.
" Go get me a healer, physician! Or something!!" Rebecca yelled at Clawdeth.
" Yes my lady!" Clawdeth nodded before her figure vanished.
Leaving Rebecca alone in the room, on her knees, her face creased into an ugly expression as she tried her best to regain control over her mana.
Out of everyone in the estate, only she and a few others were capable of using mana.
Her older sister had decided on letting her and her younger sister, Rachael learn to wield the power of mana rather than aura due to their innate weak physiques.
Meanwhile, in Roseline’s room, Osborne lay soundly asleep, unaware of the fact that his bonding process had long since begun, and the fact that it was causing a lot of trouble for others in the background.
Roseline sat upright next to Osborne, watching with a troubled expression. While she wasn’t a mana user, as a high level aura user, she could still sense it, and the huge amount that was hurtling towards her room, entering his body, had her worried.
" Guinevere." Eventually, She muttered.
" Yes, My lady?" Guinevere emerged beside her the next moment.
" I want you to make sure no one enters this room, no matter who they are."
Guinevere’s expression faltered for a moment before a subtle smile emerged at the edge of her lips.
" As you wish my lady." Guinevere nodded before vanishing.
’ I have no idea what’s currently going on with you, so I’ll lend you a hand, but in the morning, you better have an explanation for me...’ Roseline said inwardly.
Rather than going back to sleep, she silently sat next to the sleeping Osborne.
*********
Back in the dagger world.
Osborne looked on in disbelief as the entire world was slowly being erased.
Little by little, a white void claimed everything, from the sky to the earth, even all signs of his previous life in the daggers world completely vanished.
In the end, Osborne stood floating in a white void.
’ Does this mean there’s no longer an end to this place?’ he wondered but the next moment, he found his body hurtling through the white void before slamming into an unseen barrier at the end.
" ARRGH~!" He winced in pain, clutching at his forehead.
His eyes saw as the unseeable wall he slammed into, rippled like a waters surface.
’ I’m guessing this is the end of this space.’
" The dagger was destroyed though, so I thought this space would be gone as well..." Osborne said with a troubled look.
" Does that mean the curse hasn’t been lifted?" He said.
"..?!"
Only to suddenly awaken the next moment.
"..." But the moment he did, he saw a pair of stunning blue eyes staring into his.
While he looked taken aback by her presence, Roseline didn’t seem troubled by his awakening.
" It appears you’ve finally woken up." Roseline said.
" I guess so." Osborne mumbled before sitting upright and creating some distance between them.
He recalled sleeping opposite her on the bed, so how come she was now close to him.
’ Was she planning on taking advantage of me in my sleep?!’ Osborne’s gaze couldn’t help but turn solemn.
He believed the only reason she brought him here was so she could bear an heir, but he didn’t expect her to be this eager about it.
" Aren’t you going to go back to sleep?" Roseline asked, seeing his energetic look, she was a bit intrigued since she expected him to be spent after that strange phenomenon.
" No, I think I’ll be up for a while longer, but you can return to yours before me." Osborne muttered.
’ Why is he suddenly so vigilant unlike before?’ she couldn’t help wondering if he now felt conscious after realising she was able to sense his actions.
The fact that he could do all that with magic still left her curious, but since it was night, she believed she would have enough time to get all the answers she needed from him in the morning.
" Then I’ll be turning in first." To Osborne’s surprise, she didn’t pressure him, instead turning her back to him and going to sleep.
Her actions left him feeling skeptical and confused, wondering if it was a trap.
But even after a while of waiting, she still didn’t react, clearly she was indeed asleep.
