Chapter 267: Famine
The werewolves came across another problem, because of his fight with Gluttony, he drew the attention of the organisation and the high council.
Not only were they now searching for the mission people with the common consensus that they died and they bodies evaporated.
Considering the gigantic hole where the city had been, most of the low ranked agents of the organisation believed that.
But the higher ups had called upon witches of the spirit covenant who were like higher versions of mediums to confirm.
Apparently white there were souls of the dead around the former city, the number was too few to be the entire city.
So another theory was that, the werewolves for whatever reason had kidnapped the humans.
Now, the whole organisation was out to find the werewolves, especially Adrian and the first one to find them was an old friend.
Cyril stood in front of the werewolves, his eyes stayed locked on Annie for a bit too long before turning towards Adrian.
When their eyes locked, one could swear sparks flew between them.
" Adrian."
" Cyril." They greeted each other.
" You’ve caused quite a mess around here, tell me, what did you do to the denizens of that city?"
" Don’t pretend to care, Gluttony was killing them in droves and not one of you bothered to step in."
His words made Cyril frown because Adrian was right but the orders had come from above, he couldn’t just disobey them.
Annie’s eyes also turned cold, " Tell me you didn’t know." Her voice came out cold making Cyril shiver.
She did not resemble the kind and sweet Annie he remembered but instead of looking at himself.
He looked at Adrian, he blamed him for the changes in Annie’s personality, little did he know there were no changes.
Annie was still that kind woman, which is why she was mad when she thought about how the organisation ignored the seals.
Cyril sighed but he didn’t answer her, that alone was enough. " There’s an order to capture you, I’m bringing you in."
Adrian tilted his head, " You? Do you think you are enough to take me down?" The group shook.
He walked towards Cyril with steady steps, each step sounding like heavenly thunder on Cyril’s head.
Cyril had reached level 6, in his clan he was considered an absolute genius but right now, he felt a tremendous pressure.
If Annie who was clearly at level 7 gave him this pressure he would’ve understood but Adrian was on his level.
Yet the pressure he felt was beyond that of somebody at his level, this was a huge blow to his pride.
Yet, he didn’t back down, multiple artefacts appeared around him spinning above his head like a halo.
As a member of the Smith family, his mastery over the control of artefacts was beyond others.
Even surpassing that of the Enchantment Covent of witches. Adrian was also a very prideful being.
As soon as he saw the myriad of weapons around Cyril he decided to crush his pride thoroughly.
He summoned the chain, since he has already revealed it, he decided to keep it that way.
Cyril’s eyes opened wide as soon as he saw it, he knew it was an artefact but not just any artefact.
One made of pure esper, he tried searching for runic or any kind of inscriptions on it but he failed.
In his family, there were legends of weapons like this but according to those legends, such weapons can only be created by the world itself.
They were rare and incredibly powerful, Adrian didn’t know this but if others heard not just him but one of his subordinates had created such a weapon, they might raid his castle the next day.
What made these type of weapons special wasn’t merely their power, it was their indestructibility.
An example of this was Fred, his sword can cut through all the other weapons created by the abilities of other werewolves.
To this day, they hadn’t figured out something he couldn’t cut, there was a common rule in the pack.
If Fred swings, you dodge because blocking was impossible. Cyril knew that as well and immediately summoned back his weapons.
This caught Adrian by suprise, he had genuinely expected more resistance from Cyril.
But Cyril wouldn’t destroy his precious artefact on a meaningless fight he knew he couldn’t win.
In his heart, he fully admitted Adrian was his better. He still looked him in the eye with defiance.
" I acknowledge your strength wolf but unless you tell me what you did with the humans, I can’t let you pass."
" Your mistake is assuming you have a choice little human." Adrian answered and his chain was just about to lash out when a hand grabbed him.
" We don’t have time to waste here Adrian." Annie reminded him. " The humans are safe, safer than they’ll ever be under your care, now move."
Cyril sighed with relief, he believed Annie without question. " So, where are you going, what are you looking for?"
The countless questions started to piss Adrian off but fortunately he had Annie to calm him down.
" We’re going to take down Famine, now move out of our way Cyril, I’ll not ask you again."
Cyril could see she was serious and would really kill him if he continues standing in their way.
When Annie heard he knew about Gluttony had chose not to do anything even if those were his orders.
She lost all respect and any good feelings she had for him. Cyril moved to the side, " Good luck and try not to cause too much destruction."
" I can’t promise you anything." Adrian answered. Melissa grinned provocatively as she passed by Cyril.
They took off leaving a train of dust behind, they didn’t move at full speed as they would draw too much attention.
Still, they running as supersonic speed so they were bound to leave a trial of destruction behind.
Adrian used his eye to track Famine and finally reached a place where his authority was more concentrated.
He used lunar realm to search the entire city but all he was were hungry people who looked so skinny one might swear something was eating them.
" Because something is." He whispered drawing the attention of the others. " No wonder we never found him.
No that isn’t accurate, we did find him, multiple times but we missed him because we had already created an image in our heads.
Tell me, what do you think Famine looks like?" He asked Annie, she shrugged.
" I don’t know but if I had to guess, I would say a skinny man who looks hungry." She answered.
" Exactly." His response just confused her.
