Chapter 974: The Return of Apocalypse with a massive... battle
The white figure advancing through the sky did not cross Asgard’s final line of towers. Its presence changed before that, compressing around the body until the human silhouette disappeared completely. The energy formed a dark sphere in the air, rotated for several seconds, and then opened, revealing a large horse descending slowly toward the training field.
Its hooves touched nothing, but every step produced small circles of pressure beneath them. Its body was tall and muscular, covered in fur so white it reflected the morning light like snow beneath the sun. Its long mane floated around its neck without completely obeying the wind, while its golden eyes remained fixed on Lithara and Albedo.
Lithara raised her head, clearly confused.
"She was a black horse with red eyes, but now..."
She could not finish.
The sky above Asgard filled with women.
Beatrice appeared first, crossing a magical opening above the towers with her weapon already prepared. Samira emerged just below, launching herself from one of the walls while carrying her giant sword over her shoulder. Monica arrived on a mana platform accompanied by Cassandra and Daniela, while Scarlet crossed space in an explosion of dark bats.
Bellatrix appeared surrounded by black magic. Tiamat descended with a draconic presence powerful enough to make the field’s barriers vibrate. Ouroboros simply appeared atop one of the broken columns, observing the invisible threads around the visitor. Kali opened a reddish rift in the air and stepped through while holding her weapon in one hand.
Xenovia, Kryssia, and Cristine arrived from the eastern walls. Yennifer appeared surrounded by wind. Rogue leaped from one of the towers beside Xyn, and even Agnes appeared among the defensive formations, clearly pulled away from some other task by the warning of an unknown presence entering the city’s airspace.
Lithara looked from one woman to another, then returned her eyes to the white horse that continued descending calmly.
"SHE IS NOT AN ENEMY! SHE IS APOCALYPSE, YOU FUCKING BITCHES! I WENT BACK TO WORK!"
No one seemed to hear her.
Or perhaps they had heard and decided Lithara was not a reliable source when an entity carrying enough aura to pressure the entire city crossed the barriers without authorization.
Monica raised one hand, and the defensive formations around the field activated. Runes lit across the walls, soldiers retreated to protected positions, and several magical cannons began tracking the visitor’s movement.
"Final warning," Monica said, projecting her voice across the field. "Identify yourself and stop descending."
Apocalypse did not answer.
The horse merely tilted its head slightly.
Lithara let her arms fall at her sides.
"She was never very communicative."
A hand rested on her shoulder.
"Calm down. Let them get their asses kicked."
Lithara turned quickly.
Strax stood beside her, wearing simple clothes and carrying a smile that made it clear he had no intention of stopping what was about to happen.
"But what..."
He did not take his eyes from Apocalypse.
"It looks like little Apocalypse became extremely strong, right?"
"Little? She is going to destroy half the field."
"It was made for that."
Albedo looked at Strax in disbelief.
"You do not intend to tell them she is an ally?"
"Lithara already told them."
"She called everyone fucking bitches."
"It was an emotional explanation."
Before Albedo could answer, Beatrice attacked.
A line of energy crossed the field and struck directly at the space where Apocalypse was descending. The explosion spread light across the entire region and pushed aside the clouds above the walls, but the white horse was no longer there when the attack reached its destination.
Apocalypse appeared on the ground.
Her hooves touched the field’s black plates without any violence, although a pressure wave spread from the point of contact. Her form immediately began to change. The equine body dissolved into streams of white and golden energy, compressing until a human silhouette formed at the center of the field.
The woman who emerged was tall, with pale skin and a serene posture. Her white hair was tied into a long ponytail, held by a golden ornament with blue-green details. Several strands crossed her face while the wind moved the wide sleeves of the white and golden Hanfu covering her body.
She appeared calm.
Far calmer than someone surrounded by some of Asgard’s most dangerous women should have been.
Apocalypse raised one hand. A long sword appeared between her fingers, formed from golden metal and an almost transparent white blade. She assumed no elaborate stance. She merely held the weapon at her side and looked at the women around her.
"So these are the people who remain beside Master."
Samira smiled.
"She speaks."
"I expected something more impressive," Daniela commented.
Lithara brought both hands to her mouth.
"Do not provoke the horse."
Samira attacked first.
She crossed the distance in a single burst, dragging the giant sword through a horizontal arc capable of splitting the field in half. Apocalypse watched her approach without changing position. At the final instant, she raised her own sword and touched the side of Samira’s weapon.
She did not block it.
She redirected it.
The entire force of the strike passed beside her body. Before Samira could recover her balance, Apocalypse rotated her wrist and struck exactly below her ribs with the sword’s handle.
Samira was launched across the field.
Her body crossed two inner barriers, struck the reinforced wall, and became lodged inside a deep crater in the stone. The giant sword fell several meters away, still vibrating from the force of the impact.
Cassandra advanced at the same instant, taking advantage of the opening created by Samira. Her sword rose from below while three magical blades appeared at the sides to restrict Apocalypse’s escape routes.
Apocalypse took only one step.
Cassandra’s sword passed through the fabric of the Hanfu without touching it. The magical blades struck one another behind her, and Apocalypse placed two fingers against Cassandra’s forehead.
"Good precision."
A small impulse was released.
Cassandra disappeared from the center of the field and reappeared on the ground beside Samira, her eyes open and an expression of complete confusion on her face. There were no serious injuries. Her body simply refused to respond after receiving a precise impact to one of her mana circulation points.
Daniela appeared behind Apocalypse and split into six images. Each copy attacked from a different direction, alternating between blades, threads, and small explosions.
Apocalypse closed her eyes.
Her sword moved once.
Five images disappeared. The real Daniela received a strike from the flat of the blade against her waist and spun through the air before falling onto a pile of training equipment.
"That hurt," she complained, partially buried beneath shields.
Beatrice descended next, surrounded by dozens of magical circles. Energy beams were fired in an irregular sequence, striking the field from different angles. Apocalypse began walking between the attacks. She did not run, leap, or use barriers. Every step landed exactly in the space left between two shots, as though she knew where each one would hit before it was fired.
Beatrice changed the pattern and compressed all the magic into a single beam.
Apocalypse disappeared.
She appeared in front of Beatrice before the attack was released and touched the tip of her sword against the center of the magical circle. The entire structure lost stability and exploded backward, engulfing its own caster. When the smoke cleared, Beatrice lay across a destroyed stone formation, her hair completely disheveled and a small trail of smoke rising from her clothes.
"She disrupted the spell at its origin," Frieren observed from one of the towers.
Strax continued smiling.
"I told you she knew how to cultivate."
Xenovia, Kryssia, and Cristine attacked together. The three formed a line, combined their energies, and advanced with different techniques to prevent Apocalypse from evading all of them at once.
She finally moved with speed.
Her figure crossed the space between them like a white line. Three metallic sounds echoed in succession. Xenovia lost her weapon, Kryssia received a strike to the shoulder, and Cristine felt the back of her knee being hit.
All three fell almost simultaneously.
Yennifer unleashed a storm of wind before Apocalypse could stop. The entire field was overtaken by cutting currents that tore sections from the black plates and created a vortex high enough to reach the walls.
Apocalypse raised her sword above her head.
The blade descended.
The wind was split in half.
Not dispersed.
Split.
Two walls of storm passed along either side of her body and struck the outer barriers, while the center of the field remained completely calm. Apocalypse walked through the opening and struck Yennifer with the sheath that had appeared in her other hand.
The mage flew through her own vortex and fell unconscious beside one of the towers.
Rogue and Xyn attacked together, using speed and blind angles. Bellatrix cast black magic across the ground to trap the visitor’s feet, while Agnes raised several energy structures behind her. Monica coordinated the movements, adjusting orders in real time and preventing them from repeating patterns that had already failed.
For several seconds, the strategy worked.
Bellatrix’s shadow wrapped around Apocalypse’s ankles. Rogue appeared from the left, Xyn from the right, and Agnes blocked the retreat with a wall of energy. Monica cast magical threads over the visitor’s arms and began restricting the sword’s movement.
Apocalypse looked down at the bindings.
"Excellent organization."
Then she released the weapon.
Monica realized the mistake too late.
The sword remained floating in the air and began fighting on its own.
The blade rotated around Apocalypse, cut through the magical threads, broke the shadow holding her feet, and struck Rogue and Xyn’s weapons before they reached her body. At the same time, Apocalypse advanced without the sword. She caught Rogue by the wrist, used her momentum to throw her into Xyn, and sent both of them toward the wall created by Agnes.
All three collided.
Bellatrix tried to retreat, but Apocalypse was already beside her. A touch against the back of her neck was enough to bring her down.
Monica stepped back and began forming another order, but the floating sword appeared in front of her face. The tip stopped only a few inches from her eyes.
Apocalypse appeared behind her.
"You think quickly."
Monica turned and tried to activate a rune hidden inside her sleeve.
Apocalypse caught her hand.
"But your body cannot keep up."
She pulled Monica forward and struck her abdomen with her shoulder. The impact did not appear powerful, but all of the administrator’s energy vanished instantly. Monica fell to her knees, tried to breathe, and ended up lying on the ground while staring at the sky with an extremely irritated expression.
Agnes was the last of that group left standing. She raised a complete barrier around her body and began reinforcing it with several layers.
Apocalypse recovered her sword.
The tip touched the barrier.
Every layer shattered at once.
Agnes saw only the weapon’s handle approaching her forehead before she fell backward.
The field became silent.
Samira, Cassandra, Daniela, Beatrice, Monica, Bellatrix, Xenovia, Kryssia, Cristine, Yennifer, Rogue, Xyn, and Agnes were scattered across the terrain, each defeated in a different way. Some still tried to rise. Others had accepted remaining on the ground for several minutes.
Albedo looked around and then toward Lithara.
"You did not mention she was this strong."
"I did not know."
Apocalypse turned toward the four women who had not attacked.
Scarlet remained atop one of the walls, her red eyes attentive and a faint smile on her lips. Tiamat floated above the field with her arms crossed, keeping her draconic presence under control. Kali held her weapon at her side but showed no immediate intention of advancing. Ouroboros remained atop the broken column, observing threads only she could see.
Apocalypse studied each of them.
Scarlet had realized from the beginning that she possessed no intent to kill and had not wasted energy trying to prove her strength. Tiamat had recognized the draconic signature mixed with cultivation and chosen to observe. Kali seemed interested in fighting, but waited for a real reason to participate. Ouroboros merely smiled, probably because she had already seen several possible outcomes and disliked every one in which she entered the battle.
"Are you not going to attack?" Apocalypse asked.
Scarlet tilted her head.
"I do not make a habit of attacking someone Strax is watching with a smile."
Tiamat looked toward him.
"I noticed that as well."
Kali rested her weapon over her shoulder.
"Besides, they already did the work of discovering how you fight."
On the ground, Samira raised one hand.
"We did not discover a fucking thing."
Ouroboros laughed.
Strax finally began walking toward the center of the field. Apocalypse followed every step, and the serenity of her expression changed for the first time. The sword disappeared from her fingers, transforming into golden particles that were absorbed into the Hanfu.
When he stopped in front of her, her golden eyes remained fixed on his face.
"You really became strong," Strax said.
Apocalypse bowed slowly.
"I needed to become worthy of walking beside you again, Master."
Behind them, Monica managed to raise her head.
"You could have told us she was an ally."
Strax looked toward the women scattered across the field.
"Lithara told you."
"She called us fucking bitches."
"But the important information was correct."
Lithara crossed her arms and nodded with conviction.
"Exactly."
