Nancy led them deeper into the crater without further protest. The living-shadow coat that had once moved like smoke now hung quietly around her shoulders, the gold mark at her throat bright against pale skin.

Lucy walked on Levi’s right, still visibly pleased with the earlier fight. "She lasted longer than the rest of the city put together. I almost feel bad for her."

"Do not," Vespera said. "She tried to take your head off with a shadow spear."

Serakel’s third eye flicked toward Nancy’s back. "She is already adapting. The resentment is fading faster than expected."

Isha skipped once to keep pace. "I like her. She has good taste in dramatic exits. And entrances. And mid-fight commentary."

The Reverend Mother Superior glanced at the newly claimed captain and forgemaster trailing behind them. "The Black Maw is going to be very quiet for a while. I approve."

Nancy spoke without looking back. Her voice had lost the earlier edge, but a dry note remained. "The armories are this way. Try not to break anything expensive while you admire your new property."

Lucy grinned. "She is still funny. We are definitely keeping her."

Levi followed Nancy down a wide iron ramp that opened into a vast cavern lined with weapon racks and sealed vault doors. Rows of siege engines stood under heavy chains.

Crates of barbed shot and sulfur-fire canisters were stacked in neat, dangerous pyramids. Gold light swept across the space as he entered. Every lock in the chamber clicked open in sequence.

Nancy gestured at the nearest vault. "Primary weapons stock. Enough to arm three full street wars and still have leftovers for a small siege. The second vault holds the experimental pieces. Some of them bite."

Isha’s eyes lit up. "I want to see the ones that bite."

"Later," Levi said.

They moved on. The war-beast pens occupied an entire lower terrace of the crater. Most of the creatures were smaller than the pit-wyrm hybrid, but several were large enough to make the ground shake when they shifted.

All of them went still when the Sovereign Domain passed over the terrace. One by one the gold mark settled into them. The pit-wyrm hybrid rumbled in what might have been approval.

Nancy watched the process with her violet-and-gold eyes. "You make it look simple. It is not."

"It is," Levi answered. "Once the mark is accepted."

She gave a short, reluctant breath that was almost a laugh. "Arrogant. Still."

Lucy nudged Isha. "She is already talking back in a polite way. That is progress."

Vespera nodded. "Better than screaming and throwing shadow spears."

Serakel’s voice was mild. "Give her an hour. She will be organizing the ledgers."

The Reverend Mother Superior looked faintly hopeful. "An organized demon court would be a pleasant change."

Nancy shot them a sideways glance, then seemed to decide that arguing with five claimed women at once was a losing proposition. She led the group to a final chamber carved directly into the crater wall.

Inside, shelves of black glass held the Black Maw’s true wealth: contracts, blood-debts, maps of the free courts, and lists of every mercenary band that had ever taken the Maw’s coin.

Levi placed one hand on the central ledger. Gold light sank into the glass. The ink of a hundred old agreements shifted color, rewriting themselves under the Sovereign Domain’s authority.

Nancy watched the process with a complicated expression. "There. The Maw is yours in every way that matters. I will send the runners within the hour. The other free courts will know before the next full cycle turns."

Levi turned to face her fully. "You will do more than send runners. You will hold this crater in my name. The forges keep working. The beasts stay fed. The contracts stay under my seal. If any court sends more than words, you will hold the gates until I return or until the mark calls me back."

Nancy knelt once, cleanly, without the earlier fight in the motion. "As you command, Master."

Lucy folded her arms, satisfied. "Look at that. From shadow spears to proper kneeling in under an hour. Personal best for a quiet one."

Isha clapped quietly. "She is very efficient when she stops trying to kill us."

Vespera’s living eyes moved to the maps still glowing on the black glass shelves. "Three other free courts are marked as significant. The Red Spires to the north. The Drowned Market beneath the sulfuric lakes. The Hollow Choir in the far eastern trenches."

Serakel’s third eye gleamed. "The Red Spires have the strongest military reputation. The Drowned Market controls trade. The Hollow Choir is... strange. Even by Neverland standards."

The Reverend Mother Superior studied the map. "Strange is rarely quiet."

Levi looked over the glowing map, the claimed city around him, and the five women who had walked through every fight without hesitation.

’The Black Maw is finished. The message is already moving. The next courts can send tribute or they can send armies. Both are acceptable.’

He rested one hand briefly on the central ledger, feeling the full weight of the crater city settle under the mark.

"We stay the night," he said. "Rest. Eat something that is not dried whatever-that-was from the outer dark. At the next cycle we decide whether to wait for the other courts to come to us or go to them first."

Lucy stretched until her spine cracked. "I vote for food. And maybe a horizontal surface that is not volcanic glass."

Isha raised a slime-coated hand. "Seconded. Also thirded."

Vespera gave a small, rare smile. "Agreed."

Serakel nodded. "The maps will still be here tomorrow."

The Reverend Mother Superior looked almost relieved. "A night without immediate violence. How novel."

Nancy rose and gestured toward a side passage. "There are proper quarters higher on the crater wall. They are... less terrible than the rest of this place. I will have food sent."

Levi gave her a single nod of acknowledgment. The group followed her out of the contract chamber, gold light moving with them through the newly quiet forges and walkways of the Black Maw.

Behind them the free court that had tried to stand continued to rewrite itself under the Sovereign’s mark.

Ahead of them the rest of Neverland’s independent powers were about to receive a very clear message.
