Chapter 784 - 401: Crossroads of Fate
Lawrence Winters just happened to run to the middle of the road.
For most people, this situation would undoubtedly result in a collision.
But Lawrence Winters is not an average person.
From the corner of her eye, she glimpsed a car suddenly accelerating as it turned the corner. She too accelerated suddenly, taking a leap akin to a ballet dancer, her legs nearly doing the splits in mid-air, and easily leaped over the hood of the car.
The onlookers gasped in astonishment, their eyes dazzled as they watched the young woman gracefully avoid the danger with a ballet-like movement.
People practically applauded her.
Nick Zeller was also shocked into a cold sweat.
Almost at the same moment, just as he exhaled in relief and ran in the direction Lawrence Winters was coming from, someone suddenly pushed him hard from behind!
Nick Zeller was barely recovering from a severe injury; he wasn’t as agile as before, and his newly healed leg hadn’t fully recovered yet.
With that push, he couldn’t stop himself and staggered towards the middle of the street.
He was originally diagonally in front of Lawrence Winters.
So, the car that Lawrence Winters had just dodged was now headed right for Nick Zeller!
Lawrence Winters had just dodged the car’s hood when she saw it charging towards Nick Zeller.
In the heat of the moment, she couldn’t think too much and, after landing, didn’t slow down but sprinted a few more steps and kicked off the large street tree trunk!
Using the momentum from that kick, she flew forward like a hawk, beating the car by just a step to pull Nick Zeller back.
But just then, someone suddenly pushed a stroller with two toddlers in it onto the street!
The stroller had two seats, meant for families with two children of similar age.
This stroller was occupied by a pair of identical twins.
They seemed only one or two years old, with bewildered expressions on their faces, unaware of what was happening, and were pushed to the crossroads of fate!
Lawrence Winters happened to land between Nick Zeller and the stroller.
If she pulled Nick Zeller first, the car would undoubtedly crash into the stroller on her other side!
But if she chose to grab the stroller, Nick Zeller would surely be hit first!
Moreover, the distance between Nick Zeller and the stroller was almost the length of her two arms, so she couldn’t pull them back simultaneously.
What should she choose?!
Lawrence Winters wasn’t someone with a strong moral compass, and the people in the stroller were strangers to her; she didn’t even know them.
But she couldn’t bear to watch two innocent toddlers perish in front of her!
Always decisive, in that moment, her mind went blank.
Then suddenly, someone in the crowd fired two shots at the left rear wheel of the car.
Bang bang!
The person in the car seemed completely unprepared for someone to shoot here.
In a panic, they didn’t maintain control and instinctively hit the brakes.
With the brake applied, the car immediately lost balance, no longer rushing forward, but instead, skidding left with a screech.
Before the car flipped over, the driver somersaulted out from inside it.
The crowd gasped, and some even took out their phones to start recording videos of the scene.
Just when everyone thought the danger had been averted, another car came speeding around the corner.
The two toddlers in the stroller wailed in fear.
The mother of the two children cried out from the sidewalk, "Save my children! Please! Save my children!"
She wanted to rush over but saw another car speeding towards them!
There seemed to be two people in this car.
Everyone else on the street had already fled.
"Lawrence! Save the stroller first, leave your master to me!" The old Daoist’s voice called from behind Lawrence Winters.
With a sigh of relief, Lawrence Winters immediately rushed forward a step, grabbed the handle of the stroller, and quickly pulled it back, bringing it to the crying mother’s side.
The mother, along with a nanny who was with her, immediately took the two children out of the stroller, holding them and soothing them.
The old Daoist also pulled Nick Zeller back to the sidewalk.
But before they could steady themselves, the person who had pushed Nick Zeller earlier suddenly kicked both of them, shoving them back onto the street!
The car whisked past them swiftly.
Bam bam bam bam!
The people inside the car began shooting indiscriminately at Lawrence Winters and Nick Zeller.
