Chapter 1938 - 1531: Faith
Soon, Su Mo and the others flew to the entrance of the rift, which spanned a length of 300 kilometers and could easily accommodate a Star Destroyer landing.
They glanced over.
Crack! They could see layers of partition alloy retracting.
The depth was bottomless.
"Let’s go down!"
Without any hesitation, Su Mo led the group, piloting his mecha down.
Qian Chengxue and the others immediately followed.
They descended quickly, and along the way, they could see a thick layered partition alloy, each with an astounding thickness of 100 meters!
The metals used in these partitions were refined from level 5 ores, and not ordinary ores either, but the most solid level 5 Black Steel Rock, with incredible hardness and toughness.
Su Mo was astonished by this sight, thinking to himself that it’s a good thing he didn’t attempt a brute force breach; otherwise, just getting through these partitions might’ve been enough to exhaust him.
Moreover, if they chose brute force, they might trigger special mechanisms, making it impossible to proceed normally.
"Wow, boss, we’re going to strike it rich; this base is solid! I think we should consider dismantling it for profit; it’ll keep us busy for sure."
Sun Duoxiang was practically drooling.
"Here we go again, look at you."
Su Mo couldn’t be bothered to mock him.
"Hehe!"
Sun Duoxiang replied with a dry laugh.
After a long while, Su Mo and the others landed at the bottom of the giant passage, and he roughly estimated that the base was buried at a depth of at least 50,000 meters underground.
The sheer depth was unmatched, and Su Mo was curious how the Divine Race managed to build it.
"The lights are still on; the base is still running. Everyone be cautious!"
Qian Chengxue warned seriously.
Sun Duoxiang and others were startled by Qian Chengxue’s reminder and quickly got serious.
Su Mo turned his head and carefully surveyed the surroundings, noticing the illuminated equipment and was quite surprised. He hadn’t expected the base to still be operational after all these years; it was impressive.
But amidst his admiration, Su Mo felt a bit concerned and said to Xiao Shi.
"Xiao Shi, the base is still running; could there be danger? I suspect the defense systems might still be operational."
"Hmph! You’re only worrying about these now? Do you think I’ve been idling these days? I’ve already breached all security systems of this base; all defensive equipment has been neutralized. Explore freely!"
The creator Xian replied proudly.
"Nicely done!"
Su Mo couldn’t help but feel relieved.
He said to Qian Chengxue and the others, "Don’t worry. The security systems have been hacked, follow me inside."
"Okay!"
Sun Duoxiang was slightly taken aback, then showed a pleased expression.
Su Mo led the group along the spacious passageway, where the metal walls were all engraved with sacred and magnificent murals.
When they reached the end of the passage, they saw a massive entrance; if nothing unexpected occurred, this should be the base’s main gate.
Next to the gate sat rows of kneeling Divine Guard mechas.
With their left hand placed on their chest and their heads bowed, as if humbly praying.
Sun Duoxiang curiously approached and opened the cockpit to inspect, then issued a surprisingly shocked sound.
"This..."
Su Mo walked up and took a glance, noticing a soldier’s skeletal remains in mechanical armor lying inside the Divine Guard mecha cockpit, holding a short blade weapon, with dried bloodstains on the seat.
If there was no accident, they were likely all suicides!
And these remains, due to being sealed, were preserved. However, as soon as slightly touched, they would turn to ash and dissipate.
Long Ke and others opened other mecha cockpits and exclaimed in shock.
"All suicides!"
At that moment, Long Ke and others felt creeped out.
Sun Duoxiang couldn’t help but ask Su Mo, "Boss, what do you reckon made these Divine Race people despair enough to commit suicide?"
"I’m not sure; let’s continue moving inside!"
Su Mo replied with a somewhat heavy heart.
"Alright then."
Sun Duoxiang and the others nodded in agreement.
Once inside the base entrance, a giant metal-built transfer hall came into view, at least a thousand square kilometers in size.
In every corner of the transfer hall were semi-kneeling, buried Divine Guards.
On the ceiling above, a series of dazzling fluorescent gems were embedded, resembling stars circling a central gem that emitted brilliant red light.
Beside the transfer hall lay three giant passage entrances leading to different areas.
Su Mo glanced over and led the others towards the front passage.
As they walked along the passage, Su Mo and the others occasionally saw the suicided Divine Guards, each adding an intense sense of dread in their hearts.
After a while, Su Mo and the others reached the end of the passage, arriving at an area spanning hundreds of square kilometers.
For a moment, Su Mo and the others were deeply shocked!
In this area, lay rows of buried Divine Guards around, and in the central part were lines of sacrificial remains.
These remains had decayed into dust but remained untouched for ages, thus keeping their form.
At a rough glance, those interred here number at least over a million!
What an awe-inspiring sight, what loyalty, what faith!
The scene left everyone with tumultuous emotions, unable to calm down for a long time.
At this point, Sun Duoxiang exclaimed in slight terror, "Boss, look at those two special incineration pits at the front!"
Su Mo responded by piloting his mecha over to the giant pits, and his heart skipped a beat!
In the pits were special dissolution liquids poured in, which have dried up. Through the green surface, grotesque skeletons shaped into mechas were seen.
Despite eons passing, these skeletal frames were not completely dissolved.
If the guess was right, these incineration pits were likely used to destroy Biological Mechas.
From the remnants, Su Mo could sense how formidable the destroyed mechas must have been when intact.
Sun Duoxiang swallowed hard and asked Su Mo, "Boss, could these destroyed mechas be VI Generation Biological Mechas?"
"No need to guess, they surely are."
Su Mo replied in a serious tone.
"Geez, that’s such a waste, if they hadn’t been destroyed, we would’ve struck gold."
Sun Duoxiang lamented in anguish.
Looking at the incinerated VI Generation Biological Mechas, Su Mo’s first thought wasn’t regret but a growing unease.
Su Mo understood better than anyone how precious VI Generation Biological Mechas were; no matter how strong the Divine Race was, they certainly wouldn’t disregard them.
Yet they were willing to destroy them instead of retrieving them, indicating a colossal issue.
"Boss?"
Sun Duoxiang softly called out when he saw Su Mo lost in thought.
Snapping out of it, Su Mo solemnly instructed Sun Duoxiang and others.
"Alright, let’s not dwell on this. What’s destroyed is destroyed; spread out and search for any valuables!"
"Okay!"
Qian Chengxue and the others dispersed.
